Shang Beiyu had considered all sorts of possibilities, but he never imagined that the little bandit would say such a thing.
Upon hearing this, he was momentarily stunned: "Did the Ninth Prince really treat you like this?"
Reason told him that this was most likely a lie, and based on his understanding of Shang Xiye, he was definitely not such a heartless and fickle person.
But subconsciously he hoped it was true.
If the Ninth Prince is truly so heartless and unfaithful to his beloved, then there will be no more obstacles for him to be with her!
“Otherwise, why would I have gone to the capital alone?” Ji Fengyao sneered twice and said, “He was probably afraid I wouldn’t go back. He said he was afraid of angering Shang Dongyang, and that Shang Dongyang would kill my two younger brothers. He used sweet words to coax my whole family into staying in Chengdu as hostages, and they didn’t come to the capital with me. Now I have family members being held hostage in both the capital and Chengdu. What else can I do if I don’t obey them?”
After saying that, the little bandit looked at Shang Beiyu with a pitiful and expectant expression.
She was screaming inside: Come on, reveal your identity and protect this poor little thing!
She sobbed in a very manipulative tone, "So, Third Prince, you can't even protect yourself, so you'd better not get involved in this mess; given your situation, you can't beat either that grandson Shang Dongyang or that heartless Ninth Prince."
Continuing on, the little bandit girl, with an innocent and pure demeanor, clung to Shang Beiyu's sleeve, saying, "Don't take it personally, Auntie didn't mean to look down on you. In Auntie's heart, you're the best... a good child, sob sob..."
This quirky little thing must be putting on an act.
Reason told Shang Beiyu this, but in his heart he really liked her taking the initiative to show weakness and need to rely on him.
"Don't worry, even if it means death, I will protect you," Shang Beiyu said, holding the little bandit's hand tightly with burning eyes.
Ji Fengyao twitched the corner of her mouth:
Then go die. If you die, I'll take better care of you than anyone else.
“You have no power or influence, stop making trouble and go away. Don’t worry about your aunt, I’ve accepted my fate,” Ji Fengyao said, on the verge of tears.
"Trust me, I definitely have a way," Shang Beiyu said firmly.
"What method?" Ji Fengyao pretended not to know, looking at him with suspicion.
Those clear phoenix eyes held a faint glimmer of tears; though devoid of genuine emotion, they were nonetheless moving.
Shang Beiyu wished he could pull her into his arms right now and cherish her. His voice was filled with affection: "Since you insist on following one, rather than following your brother, you might as well follow me. I'll find a way to control your brother now, and then impersonate him so we can continue the unfinished process and avoid attracting attention. After today's matter is over, I'll use your brother's identity to order them to release the people."
“Nephew, you…” The little female bandit looked dumbfounded.
"Don't call me nephew anymore," Shang Beiyu said, somewhat annoyed.
"...The Third Prince?" The little bandit girl looked even more bewildered.
“Call me…” Shang Beiyu originally wanted to say, call him “Beiyu”, but then he thought that he was not the real Shang Beiyu, so he changed his words and said, “Let’s talk about this later. You will naturally understand my feelings for you then, and you will naturally know what to call me.”
After saying that, Shang Beiyu finally released the little bandit girl and solemnly said, "You obediently follow the procedure, wait for me, and trust me."
Watching Shang Beiyu gracefully depart after finishing her performance.
The young female bandit clicked her tongue and thought to herself, "I don't believe you for a second, you idiot! Just wait and see how I'll beat you to a pulp!"
