change
Deng Yi didn't speak on the other end of the phone. Zhou Ji'an sensed that he was angry, or at least a little unhappy. Holding the phone, he whispered, "I'm going out to find you."
As Zhou Ji'an drank in the chilly air of late winter, he ran while asking himself why he had come to this.
She already knew Deng Yi's purpose in marrying her and the outcome of their fake marriage, so why was she still worried or afraid that Deng Yi would be angry or unhappy?
Does she need to take responsibility for his anger and sadness?
"What are you doing here?" Deng Yi asked sullenly, leaning against the car door. "You've already decided not to come back with me anyway."
With a stinging throat, Zhou Ji'an stopped about two meters away from him, panting, "I came out to tell you."
A hint of disappointment appeared on Deng Yi's face, and he looked very tense.
Zhou Ji'an suddenly felt an impulse and said to his cold face, "I came out to tell you out of politeness, after all, you've been waiting for so long."
"You know I've waited a long time, but you only listen to outsiders, not me." Deng Yi took two steps towards her, instantly standing in front of her. "Are you really going to let me go back alone?"
When asked this question, Zhou Ji'an felt guilty again.
She's like a pendulum, going from one thing to another; no one could stand that.
Zhou Ji'an wavered and compromised, saying, "Then I'll go back and get my bag, you..."
"Ji'an".
Zhou Ji'an and Deng Yi both turned their heads toward the source of the sound.
"What's wrong?" Xu Zhiyan asked. "Did Lu Jianni say there's anything else we need to buy?"
As he spoke, he glanced at Deng Yi as a greeting, then looked at the luxury car not far away and said to Zhou Ji'an, "I told you to take the driving test a long time ago."
As Zhou Ji'an was pondering which question Xu Zhiyan should answer first, Deng Yi suddenly said, "Have fun, call me when you're done, and I'll come pick you up."
His tone instantly returned to its gentle state, and his dissatisfaction with her staying overnight at Lu Jianni's house seemed to vanish in an instant. His change was so rapid that Zhou Ji'an couldn't keep up with his words.
Was it because Xu Zhiyan, a viewer, suddenly appeared?
If that's the case, she has to cooperate with him and give an appropriate response.
Zhou Ji'an nodded and said, "Okay."
Deng Yi's car sped past Zhou Ji'an and Xu Zhiyan, who were driving side by side. Xu Zhiyan asked the same question he had asked before.
"Are you planning to continue like this?"
Zhou Ji'an's gaze followed Deng Yi's car until it disappeared from her sight. She then lazily turned her attention to the dusty gray floor tiles. "I know Lu Jianni told you about my wedding."
Xu Zhiyan walked around her from behind and onto the side of the street. "I guessed it without her saying anything. You're not an impulsive person; you wouldn't suddenly decide to get married."
If she were an impulsive person, she probably would have gone to the appointment.
“It wasn’t a sudden decision. I wanted to marry him when we were dating.” Zhou Ji’an looked in the direction where Deng Yi disappeared, and his nose suddenly felt sore.
But that person had changed by then.
Xu Zhiyan disagreed, "So many years have passed, everything has changed."
Zhou Ji'an thought to herself that she knew, she knew that everything had changed, but there were always moments when that person would give her the feeling that nothing had changed.
She missed that feeling, craved that feeling, so much so that even after discovering the man's plan, she still couldn't bear to let go.
Zhou Ji'an didn't want to wallow in self-pity, so he forced a smile and changed the subject, "Was that girl in the coffee shop that day a celebrity? I only remembered when I got home that I think I saw her online."
Xu Zhiyan didn't want to respond to her. The scars on his legs itched in waves, and his steps grew heavier with each step. "You almost crippled me back then, don't you plan to make amends?"
Zhou Ji'an used the sunlight to examine his expression, which did not reveal any indication that he was joking. "I'm sorry, but I didn't know you would go alone."
Xu Zhiyan persisted, "You gave me the signal that you would keep the appointment."
“I told her I couldn’t go.” Zhou Jian recalled that she made an excuse for not being able to go, “and at first I thought there would be a lot of people going together.”
"Tsk tsk tsk, I thought you really felt guilty towards me, but it turns out it was all an act." Xu Zhiyan sighed loudly, swaying his head from side to side, with an expression that said he had finally seen through her true colors.
Zhou Ji'an couldn't deny it, and said to himself, "Lu Jianni said that girl pursued you. I only glanced at her that day, and I thought she was so pretty. You have to be careful that she doesn't get pursued by someone else."
“If you keep mentioning her, I’ll assume you’re jealous.” Xu Zhiyan stepped in front of her, forcing her to stop.
Zhou Ji'an kept her lips tightly closed, her gaze unfocused, avoiding any look at Xu Zhiyan. She turned to the side and said as she walked, "Lu Jianni should be urged."
Xu Zhiyan stood there for a while before following after him.
"How did you two get together?" Lu Jianni asked as soon as she opened the door.
"We're not together yet," Xu Zhiyan joked.
Zhou Ji'an remained silent, feeling extremely embarrassed. She didn't even want to hear Xu Zhiyan's voice, and she even regretted not leaving with Deng Yi.
She strode into the living room and began unpacking the decorations.
“Her husband abandoned her on the roadside, so I picked her up.” Xu Zhiyan sat down next to Zhou Ji’an and looked at her face.
"Really?" Lu Jianni didn't believe it. "How could Deng Yi let Ji'an be alone with you?"
That person isn't even jealous of her?
Zhou Ji'an paused, his hand holding the scissors still.
Xu Zhiyan shrugged: "The facts are right in front of you, don't you believe me?"
Lu Jianni glanced at Zhou Ji'an, who hadn't responded to Xu Zhiyan, rolled her eyes at Xu Zhiyan, and bluntly said, "You should hurry up and date that actress properly, and stop trying to get close to this blockhead. Does she seem to have a place for you in her heart?"
Zhou Ji'an always felt that she wouldn't be able to act for much longer, so she wanted to seize some opportunities to act. While cutting open a transparent packaging bag, she said, "Of course there is no place for him. He has no gender in my eyes."
"That's incredibly insulting," Lu Jianni said gleefully.
"Are you serious?" Xu Zhiyan asked.
The scissors cut through the material that didn't need cutting, making a soft hissing sound. Zhou Ji'an suppressed the bitterness in his chest and nodded, saying, "Yes, Deng Yi is the only one in my heart."
"Ugh, how disgusting!" Lu Jianni threw a cushion at Zhou Ji'an. Zhou Ji'an dodged it, and the cushion hit Xu Zhiyan, who was standing next to him.
Completely rejected, Xu Zhiyan sat stunned on the sofa, feeling that the heart of the person beside him was sharper than the scissors in her hand. With just a few simple words, she had shattered his passion and hope into pieces. She wasn't even afraid that he would be hurt by her words; she had directly pointed the knife at him. If he continued to fuel his passion, she would push the knife further into his heart until all his passion was burned to ashes.
“Deng Yi’s heart may not only belong to you,” Xu Zhiyan said maliciously, his eyelids twitching as he suddenly understood Wei Jinglin.
As an ordinary person, Zhou Ji'an's studies, career, and relationships have all gone too smoothly, which makes people resentful and always want to remind her that she is just an ordinary person and that her life cannot be so smooth.
Deng Yiming's background, appearance, and talent are already far superior to those of ordinary people, yet he still has an ordinary person who loves him wholeheartedly and doesn't care about his fame or fortune. This makes people jealous and always want to find ways to ruin his life.
“He said he only has me in his heart.” Zhou Ji’an also acted in Deng Yi’s role. “He’s the same as before.”
"And we're really getting married, not just faking it," Zhou Ji'an said, glancing at Lu Jianni and then at Xu Zhiyan.
Lu Jianni knew that everything could never go back to the way it was before, and she grumbled, "It's my birthday, I'm the main character, why do you keep bringing up your boring emotional entanglements!"
Zhou Ji'an smiled at her and then bent down to carefully arrange the decorations.
After decorating the living room and finishing their takeout, the three of them sprawled on the sofa, reminiscing about the past.
As the night grew deeper, Zhou Ji'an, having received no call or message from Deng Yi, asked, "Do you want to rest?"
Lu Jianni stretched and groaned, "Ah, I'm exhausted. I'm never celebrating my birthday again. It's better to celebrate these things when you're young."
She raised her hand and shouted, "Go to sleep, go to sleep, so that the three of you don't have big swollen faces tomorrow."
Xu Zhiyan went upstairs, and Zhou Ji'an followed Lu Jiani into the bedroom on the first floor.
"It's this late, Deng Yi probably won't video call you anymore, right?" Lu Jianni asked, jumping onto the bed.
"I've already called, and I replied. I won't call again." Zhou Ji'an pulled the blanket up to cover the lower half of his face.
"That's good." Lu Jianni reached out and turned off the light, looking at the dark air as she said, "Deng Yi seems to be a little different from Xu Zhiyan."
"What do you mean?" Zhou Ji'an turned over, facing Lu Jiani in the darkness.
Lu Jianni smiled, accurately touched the head of the person next to her, rubbed it a few times, and said, "It doesn't mean anything. It's fine as it is now. Go to sleep."
At seven in the morning, Luo Suizhou, with a piece of bread in his mouth, pushed open the door to the editing room and saw the person leaning back in the chair. He exclaimed, "Damn, you didn't stay here all night, did you?"
"I'm going to rest for a while." Deng Yi rubbed his sore temples and slowly got up and walked out of the editing room.
Luo Suizhou caught up with her and shouted, "You had a fight with your wife? It hasn't been that long, and you're already up all night in the editing room because of it?"
Deng Yi slumped onto the office sofa, his eyelids drooping. "I'll give you all my assets. I just need you to leave immediately, close the door, and don't let anyone disturb me."
Luo Suizhou beamed with joy: "Yes, ma'am, I'll be right there."
Just as he was about to close the door, he suddenly realized something and reminded him, "This isn't something you can decide alone anymore, is it?"
Deng Yi grabbed a book from the sofa, closed his eyes, and threw it accurately at the rambling person at the door. "If you think I don't have the final say now, ask someone else for it another day."
"I really will ask, so don't try to deny it later." Luo Suizhou closed the door before the book hit him.
Luo Suizhou went to the break room to make a cup of coffee. As he was drinking it, he saw someone approaching and asked, "Why are you at the company again? Are you free?"
Yu Xi glanced at him. "This is my company too. Can't I come?"
