Storm
“I’m with her every day. I think I know better than you whether she’s happy or not.” Deng Yi played along with Zhou Ji’an’s strategy at the right time.
Zhou Ji'an immediately became happy and glared at Wei Jinglin triumphantly.
"What's the use of just being happy? It's more important to have a son or daughter soon." Wei's father ended his mutual flattery with Deng Wencheng.
Zhou Ji'an glanced at Wei Jinglin's wife subconsciously. Before she could look away, Wei's father said urgently, "Our Jinglin got married after you, and we've already heard the news."
Wei Jinglin put one hand on the back of the chair next to him and pushed the bowl and chopsticks towards the center of the table with the other, his eyes filled with a hint of provocation, "What can he possibly be better at than me?"
"How childish!" Zhou Ji'an couldn't help but think to himself. But Qin Xirang suddenly said, "Maybe Brother Xiaoyu has never bothered to consider you an opponent."
Wei Jinglin knew, of course, that Deng Yi had never considered him an opponent, but being pointed out by the always innocent-looking Qin Xirang left him feeling uneasy. He said with a cold expression, "You know it again."
Ah, that feels so good!
Zhou Ji'an was overjoyed to see Wei Jinglin's face immediately turn sour. She secretly glanced at Deng Yi, who was ignoring everyone else, and their eyes met.
She mouthed, "Let's go home."
Deng Yi stared at her intently, as if studying her expression. Zhou Ji'an was afraid he would think her suggestion was inappropriate, after all, the others at the table were still enthusiastically urging them to have children and get married, openly attacking and subtly criticizing them. Perhaps her suggestion would spoil the mood?
So she smiled at him, then looked back at the other people at the table.
In less than a second, her hand, which was resting on her lap, was grabbed.
Under the watchful eyes of others, the two prepared to leave.
Everyone else seemed to have vanished into thin air.
Zhou Ji'an inexplicably felt a sense of exhilaration that only those from the martial arts world would experience.
"This is the divorce agreement. Please sign it."
The voice was deep and resonant, surprisingly strong.
Deng Yi turned around before Zhou Ji'an, and the two stood still not far from the dining table, waiting for what was to come.
The others, too, were shocked and puzzled, waiting for what would happen next.
Apart from Deng Wencheng.
Deng Wencheng's face showed only impatience; he was certain that Shen Ruoheng was putting on a show.
"Wasn't the mess they created with their previous showmanship enough? Now they're starting again?"
“Your mother’s illness was caused by your father.” Shen Ruoheng said, taking out a stack of documents from her purse and placing them on the table one by one. “This is the diagnosis report, and these are the witness testimonies.”
The shock on the faces of the others deepened, because no one noticed the handbag next to Shen Ruoheng.
As someone who had been "out of fear of punishment" for many years and had to maintain a low profile, Shen Ruoheng had long been unseen and unvalued, let alone the inconspicuous handbag beside her.
Deng Wencheng's face stood out starkly in the restaurant's natural light, shadows flickering across his face. He waved his hand, and several stacks of papers on the table flew to the ground.
"This is evidence of your bribery and corruption over the years, and evidence of your seduction of young girls over the years." Shen Ruoheng continued her heavy blow. "If you don't sign today, I will submit all of this to your workplace. I've already had it made into a PowerPoint presentation, which can be uploaded to the internet at any time."
The light on Deng Wencheng's face disappeared, leaving only shadows. The ease with which he used to control Shen Ruoheng was also gone.
"Aren't you afraid of affecting him?" Deng Wencheng clung to Deng Yi, this seemingly hopeless straw.
Zhou Ji'an grasped Deng Yi's hand in return, and Deng Yi looked down at her, gently comforting her, "It's alright."
"Why do you think I let him come back?" Shen Ruoheng laughed, not even glancing at Deng Yi. "If you don't agree to a divorce, I can use his fame to expose your scandals and completely destroy you."
Mr. Wei advised, "Sister Heng, we're all family, why do you have to go to such lengths?"
Shen Ruoheng glanced at Wei Jinglin's father, her eyes and actions revealing deep disdain, and then threw a stack of documents at Wei's father, "This is all the evidence of your hospital's illegal and criminal activities over the years."
At this moment, she glanced at Deng Yi, then turned to Wei's father, "The treatments you used on Deng Yi back then would have been enough to bankrupt your hospital if Deng Yi were willing to expose them."
Zhou Ji'an noticed the change in the temperature of Deng Yi's palm and wanted to do something quickly, but she knew that nothing she did at this moment would be enough.
She turned to the side, still holding Deng Yi's hand with one hand, and wrapped her other arm around Deng Yi's waist. She was a little at a loss and a little anxious, so she could only urge him again, "Let's go."
Since they already know Shen Ruoheng's purpose, staying any longer will only cause Deng Yi further harm.
Compared to Zhou Ji'an's emotions, Deng Yi's emotions seemed too indifferent.
He even acted as if it were none of his business.
"Feeling sorry for me?" Deng Yi asked, seemingly oblivious to everyone around him, cupping the back of her neck with one hand and pressing a kiss to her forehead.
He said he initially wanted to really marry her, so answering that you feel sorry for him should be okay, right?
While Zhou Ji'an hesitated, Deng Yi said easily, "I've been waiting a long time for this role, and I don't want to miss it."
Wei Jinglin jumped up and roared, "Aunt Chen, don't forget why Deng Yi accepted treatment."
Wei Jinglin's mother also stood up and chimed in, "That's right, that's right, Sister Heng, aren't you just making Deng Yi die with us? Even though Deng Yi isn't Brother Wencheng's child, he's still your child. How can you live with yourself using him like this?"
Shen Ruoheng smiled.
“During Deng Yi’s treatment at your hospital, I took him to other hospitals, no less than ten in total, and they were all top-tier hospitals, but only your hospital diagnosed him with antisocial personality disorder.”
"Since he is my child, what harm is there in me using him?"
Zhou Ji'an only dared to hold Deng Yi, not daring to look up at Deng Yi's expression.
She feared discovering that Deng Yi wasn't just watching a show; she feared that Deng Yi was earnestly experiencing the cruelty of his closest relatives.
Because he's a theatrical fanatic, he might become addicted to this kind of harm.
Qin Xi glanced down at her phone, stood up, and said politely, "Aunt Heng, as an outsider, I won't get involved in your family matters. I'll be leaving now. The food was delicious."
Shen Ruoheng said coldly, "Remember to go home and tell your grandfather that no matter how powerful he was in the past, that's all in the past."
Qin Xirang obediently replied, "Okay."
After Qin Xirang left, the sounds in the room subsided for a while, leaving only the sound of turning over papers and some people's rapid breathing.
"Sign it," Shen Ruoheng said sternly, "and get out of my house."
Those who are threatened often feel threatened because they are fully aware of what they are doing. This was true for Deng Wencheng, and it was also true for Wei Jinglin's family.
Deng Wencheng was shocked to realize that everything he owned might be lost. He thought that someone as loyal and righteous as Shen Ruoheng would at least let him live his life as he pleased because of his mother.
"Why should I believe that I signed this document and that these things in your possession won't be leaked?" Deng Wencheng pressed his fingers tightly against the stacks of photos.
“You’ve already used up most of my life, and I only want to use the rest for myself.” Shen Ruoheng crossed her arms and leaned back in her chair. “On the day I get the divorce certificate, I will give you all the original documents.”
After saying that, she turned to Wei Jinglin's family and said, "As for you, as long as you stop interfering in my family's affairs, I will pretend I know nothing."
Feeling that he was at a disadvantage, Mr. Wei was very unhappy and was about to make a sarcastic remark when Shen Ruoheng added, "But your hospital is about to go bankrupt anyway, so I don't need to help at all."
A sharp, heart-wrenching roar echoed throughout the entire house.
With lightning speed, Deng Yi rushed to Shen Ruoheng's side, snatched the dining chair from Wei Jinglin's hands, and shouted at the unmoved Wei's father, "Want him to go to jail?"
Zhou Ji'an ran over and hurriedly pulled Shen Ruoheng aside, but he inadvertently caught a glimpse of Shen Ruoheng's leisurely expression.
Wei Jinglin's "illness" was probably within Shen Ruoheng's expectations, which was one of the reasons she invited Deng Yi back for dinner.
After regaining their senses from the initial shock, Wei's father and mother each exerted all their strength to grab Wei Jinglin.
Wei Jinglin seemed to have calmed down a bit, and roared with red eyes, "Why do you always want to embarrass me? Why do you always want to embarrass me? Why?"
There aren't that many whys.
Zhou Ji'an recalled his past experiences with Wei's father and mother.
If there has to be a reason, it's probably because many people's parents have some flaws, but Wei Jinglin's parents have particularly many flaws.
The turmoil subsided when Wei Jinglin and his family left in disgrace and Deng Wencheng packed his bags and left.
“My paperwork for leaving the country is basically done, and I will sell this house at a low price.” Shen Ruoheng called a cleaner to come and clean the house, and then instructed Deng Yi, “Until I get the divorce certificate, I will stay at a friend’s house. I have sent you the address. If you want, you can bring Xiao An to visit me when you have time.”
She seemed to be merely being polite and courteous, not expecting Zhou Ji'an and Deng Yi to agree. Her politeness was tinged with indifference, as if she didn't care whether they went or not.
Deng Yi did not respond, so Zhou Ji'an naturally followed suit.
After the two got into the car, they remained silent for a while. Suddenly, a sports car drove past their car.
The sports car was red, the same color as the sweater Shen Ruoheng had given Zhou Ji'an before.
After a long pause, Zhou Ji'an cautiously said, "Let's not eat with other people anymore."
It seems like every time they eat with someone, something unpleasant happens.
Deng Yi quickly recovered his composure, smiled at the worried person beside him, and asked, "Anything else?"
"Huh?" Zhou Ji'an asked, puzzled.
"Besides not eating with other people, what else can we do in the future?"
The car moved forward smoothly, and Zhou Ji'an pondered deeply, but couldn't think of anything specific.
She turned her head and gave a very vague and perfunctory answer, "Anything is fine."
"I can tell from your tone that you don't genuinely believe we have a future," Deng Yi said, a hint of dissatisfaction in his voice.
"I can't think of anything right now," Zhou Ji'an answered honestly.
"Why couldn't you think of that?" Deng Yi asked, his fingers tightening around the steering wheel. "Because you're unhappy after marrying me? You can't see a future with me?"
