Exhausted, Lin Xihe fell into a deep sleep and slept soundly through the night without any dreams.
The next morning, she slowly woke up and received an imperial edict from His Majesty, instructing Gu Qinghuai to take her back to his residence to recuperate.
When Lin Xihe learned that she could go home, her mood instantly brightened. She thought that whether she left today or the day after, the only person who could take her home was Gu Qinghuai.
There are too many people and too many eyes in this camp. Even leaving the camp requires careful consideration. It's really not as comfortable as being at home.
From the moment he saw Gu Qinghuai in the morning until he got into the carriage, Gu Qinghuai had a smile on his face the whole time.
Lin Xihe glanced at him and said with a hint of reproach, "Turn around and stop staring at me!"
"Okay, sure." Gu Qinghuai's smile remained, and he readily agreed.
Lin Xihe opened the car window to let in fresh air. She looked at the scenery outside, glancing at the distant mountains and then at the fields by the roadside.
After a while, she felt a little tired, so she changed her position and leaned back in her chair. Inadvertently, she saw Gu Qinghuai looking at her again.
"Didn't I tell you not to look at it?" Lin Xihe frowned, her tone slightly displeased.
“You looked at me too. If you hadn’t looked at me, how would you have known I was looking at you?” Gu Qinghuai replied with a smile.
"Boring, childish!" Lin Xihe snorted and turned her head away, ignoring him.
At this moment, the carriage lurched slightly due to the uneven road surface.
Gu Qinghuai immediately reached out to support Lin Xihe and shouted loudly to the coachman outside, "How are you driving? Be careful!"
The coachman outside immediately replied in a panic, "Yes, General! I will be careful."
Subsequently, the carriage's speed noticeably decreased.
Lin Xihe shook off Gu Qinghuai's hand, frowned and said, "Why are you criticizing people for no reason? Isn't it normal for the road to be uneven?"
"I was just worried about hurting you and the baby," Gu Qinghuai said gently, his eyes full of concern.
Lin Xihe felt a little overwhelmed. Gu Qinghuai's way of speaking today was unusually gentle, which made her feel uneasy.
The carriage bumped along the winding road, the trees outside the window rustling in the breeze, and sunlight filtering through the leaves into the carriage.
Lin Xihe sat by the window, looking out with some annoyance, and said, "Making a mountain out of a molehill. What did you say to His Majesty yesterday?"
Gu Qinghuai sat opposite, his body swaying slightly with the movement of the carriage. He carefully observed Lin Xihe's expression as he said, "I assumed you didn't care about these things. His Majesty reprimanded me a few times, saying that the wedding should be moved up."
"How did you reply?" Lin Xihe frowned slightly, a hint of resistance flashing across her face.
"I told His Majesty that we should wait until you give birth before we get married, so that you won't be too tired on the wedding day," Gu Qinghuai said truthfully. In fact, he was worried that Lin Xihe would resist. Now that she was pregnant, Gu Qinghuai didn't want her to hurt her health because of emotional excitement.
As soon as she finished speaking, Lin Xihe said with a serious expression, "Gu Qinghuai! I don't want to marry you, and I'm telling you this seriously."
"Why?" If Gu Qinghuai had heard this before, he would have felt sad to some extent, but now he knows that Lin Xihe's words are not necessarily sincere.
"I don't like you, and you don't like me. The person you like..."
Lin Xihe paused, glancing warily around, afraid someone outside might hear. "They're gone."
Gu Qinghuai suddenly picked Lin Xihe up and placed her on his lap. The road was bumpy, and he was worried that the carriage would jolt his child.
"Let me go!" Lin Xihe struggled and said.
Gu Qinghuai leaned close to Lin Xihe's ear and whispered, "Then how can you prove that you're not her?"
As he spoke, his warm breath brushed against Lin Xihe's ear, his thin lips gently touching her small earlobe, and he whispered, "You've proven you're not her, so I'll let you go."
Lin Xihe's ears were itchy from Gu Qinghuai's series of actions, and she felt both angry and annoyed.
She suddenly slammed her elbow into Gu Qinghuai's chest, but even with all her strength, Gu Qinghuai only let out a muffled groan before her arm was tightly restrained.
"Prove it to me," Gu Qinghuai said again.
Lin Xihe struggled for a while, but found that she couldn't break free from Gu Qinghuai's grasp, so she resigned herself to her fate and stopped struggling.
She turned her head to the side, her voice so low that only Gu Qinghuai could hear: "I told you, I am from hundreds or thousands of years in the future. I accidentally ended up here because I fell down the stairs."
"So what? What does this prove?" Gu Qinghuai leaned closer to Lin Xihe, his voice soft and gentle.
"How can this prove anything? Doesn't it just mean there are two of us?"
"If there were two of you, why would you have our past memories? If there were two of you, why would you care about Zhihao? Why would you care about me?" Gu Qinghuai said, while gently rubbing his nose against Lin Xihe's ear, as if intentionally teasing her.
Lin Xihe was annoyed by Gu Qinghuai's actions. She tilted her head to avoid him and gritted her teeth, saying, "If you mess around again, I'll bite you."
Gu Qinghuai looked at Lin Xihe's anxious expression, at her delicate little face, and deliberately made a fierce expression, but he only thought she was extremely cute, like an enraged cat.
He couldn't resist reaching out and pinching Lin Xihe's chin, and before she could react, he kissed her.
Just as he was about to kiss her more deeply, Lin Xihe pushed him away.
With a "slap," a hand landed mercilessly on Gu Qinghuai's face.
After finishing the beating, Lin Xihe glared angrily at Gu Qinghuai, her eyes filled with rage: "I told you not to move, you deserve it."
Gu Qinghuai pressed his tongue against his cheek, his smile undiminished, and said, "Slow down, does your hand hurt? Don't hurt my son."
"You!" Lin Xihe was so angry that she couldn't speak, not expecting Gu Qinghuai to react this way.
Seeing Gu Qinghuai's slightly smug look, Lin Xihe was furious. She pounced on his shoulder and bit him hard through his clothes.
Lin Xihe bit down hard, her heart filled with anger.
Gu Qinghuai sat up straight to avoid Lin Xihe squeezing the baby in her womb, and at the same time reached out to gently stroke Lin Xihe's back, as if Lin Xihe was not biting him, but resting on his shoulder.
Gu Qinghuai's voice was deep and gentle as he spoke slowly in Lin Xi's ear: "Xihe, why wasn't it because you were too scared in Xinghua Village that your soul wanted to escape and went to live for twenty years in the future? But you couldn't bear to leave me, so you came back?"
Upon hearing this, Lin Xihe gradually stopped biting Gu Qinghuai's shoulder.
She couldn't help but wonder, could it be like this? Could it be as Gu Qinghuai said?
Just as Lin Xihe was about to look up, Gu Qinghuai pressed her back onto his shoulder.
"Xihe, you just have one more memory than others. The you in this memory is you, and the you in that original memory is also you. There's no need to distinguish between them so clearly."
"Now that you are carrying my child, I will not force you to marry me hastily, but I will never let you leave me either."
