Chapter 109 Doubt

As soon as Lin Xihe took the medicine, she was instantly drenched in sweat. Large beads of sweat continuously seeped from her forehead, neck, and back. In no time, her clothes were completely soaked with sweat and clung tightly to her slightly frail body.

"Lord Ji, Doctor Tao, please wait outside for a moment. We need to help the young lady take off her clothes and wipe her body," Ling Shuang urged anxiously.

"I'll wait outside. If Miss Lin experiences shortness of breath or convulsions, please call me in immediately." Tao Musheng said solemnly, then turned and quickly walked out of the room.

Ji Zhuo, however, seemed not to hear and showed no intention of leaving.

His gaze remained fixed on Lin Xihe the entire time, his eyes filled with worry, never wavering for a moment.

He knelt on one knee at the head of Lin Xihe's bed, gently wiping the sweat from her forehead, his lips tightly closed, remaining silent.

Seeing this, Ling Xue and Ling Shuang felt helpless, but the situation was urgent and they couldn't worry about anything else.

The two exchanged a glance, gritted their teeth, and carefully unbuttoned Lin Xihe's clothes.

As soon as her clothes were undone, the ambiguous red marks on Lin Xihe's body were exposed to everyone without reservation.

Ling Xue glanced at Ji Zhuo subconsciously, only to see that Ji Zhuo's hand holding the handkerchief suddenly stopped the moment he saw the red marks.

Although she couldn't see Ji Zhuo's face at that moment, she could tell from his slightly trembling hands that he must be in great pain.

After a brief pause, Ji Zhuoqiang composed himself, handed the handkerchief in his hand to Xiuxin, who had been washing handkerchiefs beside him, and took the new handkerchief to continue wiping the sweat off Lin Xihe's body meticulously.

But when he touched those red marks, his hands still trembled uncontrollably, as if those red marks were scars etched into his heart.

After repeated and meticulous wiping, the cold sweat on Lin Xihe's body gradually decreased and was no longer as profuse as before.

Ji Zhuo gently pulled Lin Xihe into his arms, his movements extremely careful, as if he were afraid that he might accidentally hurt her slightly protruding belly.

After Ling Xue changed Lin Xihe into clean clothes, Lin Xihe slowly woke up as Ling Xue moved her body.

"She's awake!" Ling Shuang exclaimed in surprise.

"Miss? Miss? Can you hear me?" Ling Xue also moved closer to Lin Xihe and called out anxiously.

Lin Xihe slowly opened her eyes, her gaze filled with fear and confusion, as if she had just experienced a terrifying nightmare.

She was so weak that she didn't even have the strength to lift her hand, and her first reaction was to look at her stomach.

When she saw that her lower abdomen was still round and showed no abnormalities, a tear finally slid down Lin Xihe's cheek, and she murmured softly, "Ling..."

"It's alright, young lady, the child is alright." Ling Xue was extremely excited, holding Lin Xihe's hand tightly and constantly trying to calm her down.

"Don't worry, young lady, Doctor Tao is here. Now you just need to rest well," Ling Shuang said softly from the side.

Lin Xihe was too weak to speak, and could only blink slightly to indicate that she understood.

But the fear in her eyes did not diminish at all. Ling Shuang saw this and felt pain in her heart. She secretly wondered what Lin Xihe had dreamed about that made her so afraid after waking up.

At this moment, Lin Xihe realized that she was leaning against someone's chest. She turned her head slightly, raised her eyes and looked up, and saw Ji Zhuo's familiar face.

At this moment, Ji Zhuo tried his best to hide the worry on his face, forced a smile, and softly called out, "Xi'er."

"You...how..." Lin Xihe asked weakly and intermittently.

"If you can't speak, don't force yourself. I won't leave. I'll stay here and watch over you. No one will ever hurt you again." Ji Zhuo's tone was firm yet gentle as he made a promise to Lin Xihe.

Lin Xihe was indeed unable to respond at this moment, and could only blink again.

Ji Zhuo placed Lin Xihe back on the bed, then sat quietly beside her. He turned to Ling Shuang and instructed, "Go and call Doctor Tao to come and take another look."

Tao Musheng arrived quickly and skillfully took Lin Xihe's pulse. After a moment, a look of relief appeared on his face, and he confirmed that Lin Xihe was out of danger.

Seeing Lin Xihe still looking at him with concern, Tao Musheng quickly explained, "Miss Lin, you have been poisoned. This poison will only affect your mind. Fortunately, the antidote was administered in time. You have exhausted too much energy. As long as you rest well, you will recover, and the child will be fine."

Upon hearing this, Lin Xihe slowly closed her eyes again and fell into a deep sleep.

During this time, the Lin residence had already been completely surrounded by the people sent by Ji Zhuo, like an iron barrel, airtight.

Tao Musheng carefully examined the medicine and the dead cat sent by Gu Zhoushi, but found nothing poisonous.

Ji Zhuo then sent people to search the Lin residence thoroughly, inside and out, but they still found nothing suspicious.

It wasn't until night fell and the city lights came on that Lin Xihe regained consciousness.

When she woke up this time, her complexion was much better.

Outside, the night was deep, but inside, candles had already been lit, their dim light flickering.

Seeing that Ji Zhuo was still there, Lin Xihe's face showed a slight awkwardness, and she said softly, "I want to get up."

Ji Zhuo quickly and gently helped Lin Xihe up, then brought several soft pillows and carefully placed them behind her before asking with concern, "Are you feeling better?"

Lin Xihe checked her body and, finding nothing wrong, asked, "Hmm, why are you still here? Your mother...?"
