And so, time passed quietly, and the two spent a few more days peacefully.
In the past few days, Lin Xihe stopped going up the mountain to pick wild fruits. In her spare time, she began to tidy up the messy yard, tidying it up little by little, trying to make this simple dwelling more pleasant.
At the same time, she was also pondering in her heart how she could survive peacefully in this strange world.
I've read a few time-travel novels, and the characters who travel to the past usually live very well, either making money or starting businesses. As the saying goes, gold always shines. But Lin Xihe is different; she's a total idiot.
After racking his brains and trying to find a way to get rich, Lin Xihe simply gave up and lay down.
The sky here is breathtakingly beautiful, with a clear, jewel-like blue sky and fluffy white clouds. It is many times more beautiful than the sky she had seen before crossing over.
Looking out from her home, she could see that the vegetation on the mountain had changed color, a mix of orange and red, with golden hues covering the ground, like a natural oil painting. She often became immersed in this beautiful scenery, gazing at it in a daze.
She moved a worn-out stool with uneven corners around the yard, sometimes sitting here and sometimes moving it there, just to better appreciate the charming scenery.
Unbeknownst to her, as she quietly gazed at the scenery, she herself had subtly become a unique sight in the eyes of others.
Ji Zhuo adored her quiet demeanor; her delicate profile appeared even more beautiful in the sunlight. Her thick, flowing hair was casually piled up behind her head, with a few stray strands falling on either side of her face, adding a touch of languid charm and playfulness.
Especially when the sunlight fell on her face, the natural beauty she exuded was far more captivating than any of the women he had ever seen in the capital.
Several times, he was so engrossed in watching her that he forgot to look away, and Lin Xihe almost discovered that he was secretly watching her.
At first, his attention to her was solely due to her stunning face. Her dazzling beauty was impossible to ignore. Whenever his gaze inadvertently fell upon her, he would be drawn in and unable to look away for a long time.
However, deep down, this flutter of excitement caused by beauty was merely seen as an instinctive physiological reaction, like seeing a stunning painting or a captivating landscape; one might feel admiration but not anything special about it.
Today, the weather changed abruptly. At dusk, a strong wind rose, followed by a downpour of wind and rain.
Lin Xihe was woken up by the strong wind blowing the door open.
She quickly and neatly got up to close the door, only to find that Ji Zhuo hadn't fallen asleep, but was sitting quietly on the other side of the haystack.
"What are you doing sitting there?" Lin Xihe shivered as the cold night wind blew. She felt as if the temperature had dropped by more than ten degrees after the rain, as if it had suddenly plunged into the dead of winter.
"The windows are leaking."
"Is your bed damp?" Lin Xihe frowned and asked, glancing at the pile of straw, trying to get a better look at the situation.
Upon hearing this, Ji Zhuo inwardly scoffed, thinking to himself, "How can this pile of straw be worthy of being called a bed!"
However, his expression remained cold and stern, and he did not say much.
Lin Xihe hurried over and reached out to touch the pile of straw. Except for the small area where Ji Zhuo was sitting, the rest of the area was wet and damp.
Her hand accidentally touched Ji Zhuo's body and she found that the thin sheet covering Ji Zhuo was also ice-cold, without any warmth at all.
"Why didn't you wake me up?" he asked, looking at Ji Zhuo, who was almost frozen stiff.
"What good would waking you do? Should I stuff you in the window crack to keep you dry?" Ji Zhuo retorted irritably, his tone far from friendly.
He knew perfectly well that when he asked Lin Xihe to buy a quilt, she readily agreed. But then she thought she would buy one when the family ran out of vegetables in a few days. Who could have predicted that the temperature would drop so quickly? Now, she had no choice but to endure the cold.
Lin Xihe knew she was in the wrong. She had indeed agreed to buy a quilt when Ji Zhuo brought it up yesterday, but little did she expect that plans would change so quickly.
Lin Xihe keenly noticed that Ji Zhuo's breathing was slightly heavier than usual. She was startled and, without thinking too much, hurriedly reached out to touch his forehead. Fortunately, there was no sign of fever, and Lin Xihe secretly breathed a sigh of relief.
She lowered her head and pondered for a moment before finally making up her mind and saying, "You sleep in the bed."
"Huh?" His tone revealed a hint of surprise, as if he was wondering if he had misheard. He never expected that she would take the initiative to make such a suggestion.
Upon hearing this, Ji Zhuo's body trembled slightly, and he was clearly stunned for a moment.
"Fine, if you don't want to, then forget it." Seeing his reaction, Lin Xihe felt a strange awkwardness rise in her heart and said in a defiant manner.
"Help me up." Ji Zhuo quickly came to his senses and reached out his hand to Lin Xihe.
Such an invitation would be hard for any man to resist.
Lin Xihe stepped forward and reached out to help Ji Zhuo. The moment her hands touched his body, she truly felt the bone-chilling cold emanating from him. A question arose in her mind, wondering how long he had been sitting there in the cold.
Lin Xihe helped Ji Zhuo to the bedside, where she helped him lie down and then tucked him in.
The quilt still held the warmth of Lin Xihe. Although Lin Xihe never used perfume, Ji Zhuo seemed to smell a faint, indescribable fragrance. The scent seeped into his nostrils and lingered in his heart.
