Chapter 15: A Place to Rely On When Helpless

"I don't need your responsibility. Get out of my way right now!" Lin Xihe frantically covered her chest with her only free hand.

I'll give you time to think about it.

After Ji Zhuo finished speaking, he gritted his teeth, rolled over, and lay back in his original position.

However, this movement aggravated his wounds, and he couldn't help but cry out in pain. The excruciating pain spread instantly, causing him to frown.

Once free, Lin Xihe barely dared to breathe. She instinctively pressed herself against the wall, wishing she could melt into it and stay as far away from Ji Zhuo as possible.

"It's cold leaning against the wall," Ji Zhuo said in a muffled voice, noticing her movement.

"None of your business," Lin Xihe replied instinctively, her voice still carrying a hint of tension.

Before she could finish speaking, Ji Zhuo suddenly reached out and pulled her into his arms, holding her tightly: "I won't force you. But you have to obey me."

Lin Xihe instinctively struggled, but to her horror, she found that she couldn't break free at all; Ji Zhuo's strength was far beyond her imagination.

Only then did she belatedly realize that even though the man in front of her had so many wounds, he was by no means a weak and easily bullied person. If he really wanted to do something to her, she wouldn't be able to stop him with her limited strength.

"Don't move. I'm sleepy," Ji Zhuo said.

Lin Xihe could only stare wide-eyed as she lay in Ji Zhuo's arms, her heart pounding with anxiety, unable to fall asleep. She just kept enduring it until a faint light appeared outside the window, at which point she finally felt a little relieved and thought to herself that she could get up soon.

However, the air outside the blanket was chilly, while Ji Zhuo's embrace was unusually warm, making one feel strangely comfortable.

And so, amidst this interplay of cold and warmth, Lin Xihe's eyelids grew heavier and heavier, and she unknowingly fell asleep.

When she woke up again, she opened her eyes groggily and found herself completely held in Ji Zhuo's arms. His warm breath gently fell on her hair. The scene made Lin Xihe's face turn red to the roots of her ears.

At dawn, as the first rays of sunlight broke through the clouds, I could see the rays of sunlight streaming in through the window.

At this moment, Lin Xihe had only one thought in her mind: she could no longer sleep in the same bed with Ji Zhuo.

It wasn't that she ignored Ji Zhuo's handsome appearance; the real reason was that the man had suffered a head injury and lost his memory, so who could possibly know anything about him?

If he already has a wife, wouldn't I be getting myself into a mess for no reason, leading to endless trouble?

In contrast, Madam Ye was kind and knew the details, so Lin Xihe naturally wouldn't associate herself with Ji Zhuo.

ā€œI’m going out with you today.ā€ Ji Zhuo sat on the edge of the bed, straightened his slightly wrinkled clothes, and looked up at Lin Xihe.

"No, you're not fully recovered yet, and the city is far away. Don't delay my trip."

Lin Xihe frowned, quickly packing her clothes while repeatedly refusing. Going into the city alone was already troublesome enough. With the torrential rain these past two days, the roads must be like muddy puddles, sticky and difficult to walk on. If she were to bring Ji Zhuo along, not only would he be unable to help due to his injuries, but she would also have to take care of him, and who knows what might happen on the way.

As soon as she finished speaking, Lin Xihe ignored Ji Zhuo's dark expression, quickly locked the door, and set off for the city.

At first, the cold wind, carrying dampness, kept penetrating her clothes, making her clench her teeth and shiver all over. But as she walked, she gradually warmed up.

Before she could even catch her breath, just as she was about to reach the city, she stepped on something slippery and lost her balance, falling hard with a cry of "Ouch!"

Lin Xihe gritted her teeth, braced herself with her hands on the ground, and struggled to sit up, feeling a piercing pain in her right ankle.

She endured the pain and stood by the roadside for a long time. Most of the passersby were in a hurry and no one stopped. It wasn't until her eyes were red and she was filled with despair that a donkey cart slowly came by.

"Sir, please take me to Jishetang. My leg is too sore to walk." Lin Xihe hurriedly offered, and reluctantly took out a few copper coins from her pocket and handed them over.

Seeing her pitiful appearance, the old man driving the cart took the money, helped her onto the cart, cracked his whip, and urged the donkey toward Jishetang.

We arrived at Jishengtang.

At that time, she looked quite disheveled, her clothes were covered with mud spots, mottled and wet, and the hem was dripping water, looking exactly like someone who had just crawled out of a swamp.

The moment he appeared at the entrance of the clinic, Ye Yunfan, who was busy inside, spotted him with his sharp eyes.

He quickly put down the herbs he was working on and rushed out to greet her: "Miss Lin, what happened to you!"

"Dr. Ye, could you please take a look at me? I just tripped and fell, and my ankle is really painful now."

"Come in quickly."

Ye Yunfan didn't mind the mud on Lin Xihe's body and helped her sit down nearby.

"May I take off my shoes and socks so I can take a look?"

Ye Yunfan carefully examined her, noticing that not only was her ankle injured, but half of her body was covered in mud, and there was a bleeding wound across her palm. His heart clenched, and his tenderness was palpable.

"Can."

"Come with me to the back. There are too many people around here, so be careful not to bump into anything." Ye Yunfan said, then quickly walked to her side, reached out and firmly supported her arm, and carefully led her to the back room of the clinic.

The cubicle was simply and warmly furnished, with a clean bed, a table and chairs next to it, and some commonly used medical instruments on the table.

"Please sit down first. I'll go get something and be right back." Ye Yunfan settled Lin Xihe in and then hurriedly left.

A short while later, he brought a basin of steaming hot water and placed it on the ground to the side.

Ye Yunfan squatted down, about to reach out and take off Lin Xihe's shoes and socks, when Lin Xihe saw her legs covered in mud, she felt embarrassed and quickly said, "I can do it myself."

"Your hand is injured too, let me do it," Ye Yunfan said softly, his hands moving swiftly and gently to remove her shoes and socks. Lin Xihe's ankle was red and swollen, bulging high.

After carefully examining the injury, Ye Yunfan breathed a sigh of relief and comforted the patient, "Fortunately, no bones were broken. However, you must rest well for the next few days and avoid moving around, lest the injury worsen."

After getting up, he quickly washed the handkerchief, wrung it out, and hurried back to Lin Xihe's side: "Wipe yourself off, clean yourself up, and you'll feel more comfortable."

Lin Xihe took the handkerchief and wiped her face haphazardly, but instead of cleaning the mud off, she spread it even more.

Ye Yunfan noticed this, took the handkerchief to wash it clean, wrung it half dry, and then cautiously approached to ask, "Miss Lin, may I help you?"
