Chapter 178 Green Tea Ji Zhuo

“If General Lin is truly wronged, even if it means going against His Majesty’s orders, I will stand firmly by the side of the truth.”

Ji Zhuo's eyes shone brightly, each word resounding with conviction, his eyes filled with utmost sincerity.

After all, General Lin dedicated his entire life to protecting the Great Hao, risking his life and giving his all.

If such heroes are ultimately framed by villains and remain unjustly accused, then the so-called justice in this world is nothing but empty talk.

If this continues, who will still be willing to make selfless contributions to their country and people without reservation?

Ji Zhuo thought that Lin Xihe's sudden statement must mean that she knew something he didn't.

"Xi'er, can't you just tell me the truth? Do you know something about your father?" His voice softened unconsciously, carrying a hint of earnestness.

Lin Xihe bit her lower lip and fell silent, her eyes darting around as if she were weighing something.

“I am not the only one who serves His Majesty, and there are some things I do not need to know all of.”

Looking at Lin Xihe, who was still wary of him, Ji Zhuo felt a heavy weight pressing on his heart.

He couldn't help but guess that Gu Qinghuai must know something about this, and the thought made his frustration even stronger.

Lin Xihe slowly raised her head and looked straight at Ji Zhuo. Mu Ruoyan always called Ji Zhuo His Majesty's lackey.

She couldn't help but wonder to herself if Ji Zhuo had really done many shameful things.

"When you serve His Majesty, will you be unable to distinguish between good and evil? Will you indiscriminately kill innocent people? Will you disregard human life? Will you fail to differentiate between good and bad? Will you confuse the public? Will you distort the truth?"

Upon hearing this, Ji Zhuo seemed to have heard something unbelievable. He subconsciously raised his hand and gently tapped Lin Xihe on the head, saying with a mix of amusement and exasperation, "You know quite a lot of idioms!"

Lin Xihe winced in pain and quickly covered her head, looking at Ji Zhuo with a face full of dissatisfaction, her eyes seeming to accuse him of his "abuse".

“I always conduct thorough investigations in secret, but when I do things, I am always open and aboveboard. Even if I sometimes have to use some extreme measures, those words you mentioned have nothing to do with me.”

Ji Zhuo straightened his back, his face serious. He always considered himself a gentleman, and there were some things he disdained to do.

After hearing this, Lin Xihe gave an awkward, fake smile.

She thought to herself that she didn't expect her future partner to be perfect or wicked, but she couldn't let someone call her "lackey" all the time; it was really unpleasant to hear.

Ji Zhuo looked at her, wondering what she was thinking about in her little head, and for some reason, his mood improved.

He realized that Lin Xihe's intention yesterday was not for him to stand against His Majesty for Gu Qinghuai's sake, but for her own.

Although the matter was extremely troublesome, he felt much more at ease than yesterday when he thought about it.

But then he suddenly remembered something, his face darkened, and he said angrily, "You've been gone for months, and Gu Qinghuai has been talking badly about me for months, hasn't he? What a despicable person!"

Lin Xihe had never doubted him before, so why did she miss him so much after just one trip?

"You're the despicable one. He never said anything about you. It's you who tricked him into going back together, and then you climbed over the wall to come back here."

Lin Xihe immediately retorted, her tone implying that she was defending Gu Qinghuai.

"It's not that I didn't want to leave, but I got dizzy from the horse after it had only been running for a short while. You should be responsible for the wine I drank at your house."

As Ji Zhuo spoke, he shamelessly pretended to be dizzy. As he spoke, he actually seemed to be exhausted and suddenly fell towards Lin Xihe, pinning her to the bed.

"Ji Zhuo! You're so heavy, get up!" Lin Xihe struggled and shouted, gasping for breath.

"Help me up... ah... I'm dizzy..." Ji Zhuo groaned playfully, showing no intention of getting up.

Ling Xue hurriedly returned with the hangover soup that had been prepared in the kitchen. From afar, she saw that the maids who had been guarding the door were now all gathered at the courtyard gate.

As soon as she stepped into the house, she saw a shocking scene: Ji Zhuo was lying on top of his daughter Lin Xihe, acting like a spoiled child.

However, Ling Xue immediately noticed something amiss. Although Ji Zhuo was pretending to be drunk and pressing down on her, he was actually supporting himself on the bed with his arms and not putting all his weight on Lin Xihe. Clearly, he wasn't drunk at all and was just putting on an act.

Ling Xue secretly thought to herself, "My former master is really shameless. General Gu is too upright. How can I possibly win against him?"

As soon as Lin Xihe saw Ling Xue come in, she cried out for help as if she had seen a lifeline: "Ling Xue, come and save me! He's going to crush me to death!"

Ling Xue quickly put down the medicine bowl in her hand, stepped forward to help Ji Zhuo up, and said gently, "Lord Ji, the hangover medicine is here. Let me help you up."

Ji Zhuo glanced at Ling Xue sideways, inwardly blaming her for returning at such an inopportune time.

Before Ling Xue could even touch him, he sat up on his own and pulled Lin Xihe off the bed. Then, he slowly began to straighten the clothes that Lin Xihe had undone.

Lin Xihe, now free, hurriedly straightened her disheveled clothes and immediately instructed, "Ling Xue, bring him the hangover soup."

Ling Xue did as she was told, but Ji Zhuo didn't even lift his eyelids, not even glancing at her, his gaze fixed on Lin Xihe the whole time.

"girl....."

Ling Xue called out softly, a hint of helplessness in her eyes.

Lin Xihe sighed helplessly, took the soup bowl and said, "Alright, go prepare a carriage for Lord Ji, and find someone to take him back later."

"Yes, young lady."

Ling Xue felt as if she had been granted a pardon and quickly retreated, even thoughtfully closing the door gently behind her.

As the door slowly closed, Ji Zhuo's lips curled up slightly, almost imperceptibly, and he seemed to be in an exceptionally pleasant mood.

"Let's finish drinking and go back quickly. Aren't we going to receive the envoys from the Western Regions together with Qinghuai tomorrow?"

As Lin Xihe spoke, she handed the soup bowl to Ji Zhuo, her tone urging him on.

Upon hearing Lin Xihe affectionately call him "Qinghuai," Ji Zhuo's previously upturned lips instantly vanished, his expression darkening as he sourly remarked, "Can't you just call him by his full name?"

Lin Xihe was annoyed by his inexplicable jealousy and retorted irritably, "If you're sick, get treatment!"

After saying that, he handed the soup bowl to Ji Zhuo.

Ji Zhuo slowly got up, stood by the bed, and reached out to take the hangover soup that Lin Xihe handed him.

Lin Xihe was just thinking to himself that he had finally done something normal today when he saw Ji Zhuo's hand holding the soup bowl suddenly tremble. Not a single drop of the full bowl of medicine went into his mouth; it all spilled onto himself.

"Xi'er, I drank a bit too much, my hands are unsteady..."

Ji Zhuo looked completely innocent, his clear eyes wide open, putting on a pitiful expression.

"Heh..." Lin Xihe sneered.

"snort....."

Then he let out a helpless hum.

She was so angry at Ji Zhuo's childish behavior that she laughed. Pointing at him, she questioned, "Ji Zhuo, do you think I'm blind or stupid?"
