Chapter 18 Too Innocent, Fear Arises

Ji Zhuo stood there upright, his expression indifferent, as if shrouded in a thin layer of frost. He uttered a cold yet resolute sentence: "I am all alone, without wife or children."

"You've lost your memory, how can you be so sure?" Lin Xihe immediately looked at Ji Zhuo with a suspicious gaze.

“If I said no, then no.” Ji Zhuo looked away without offering any further explanation.

"Uh... it's all up to you to make things up."

As they were talking, Ji Zhuo's gaze inadvertently fell on the velvet flower on Lin Xihe's head. His brows furrowed instantly, and his eyes revealed his disgust. He bluntly said, "What is that on your head? It's hideous."

Lin Xihe immediately retorted, "What's so ugly about it? What do you know! I'm naturally beautiful. Even if I had a roadside weed stuck in my hair, I'd still be radiant and charming. How could a mere flower lower my beauty?" As she spoke, she shook her head, and the fluffy flower trembled along with her, as if in agreement with her "self-praise declaration," her face full of arrogance.

Ji Zhuo snorted coldly, the awkward feeling in his heart growing stronger. Without saying a word, he took a long stride forward, his slender fingers reaching straight for the velvet flower, as if he were about to tear it off. He said, "Then take it off, I'll go out and get you a weed, I guarantee it'll be better than this."

Lin Xihe reacted quickly, covering her head with one hand and grabbing Ji Zhuo's outstretched hand with the other, shouting as she did so, "Stop messing around! This is my first velvet flower, it's very meaningful, you can't do anything reckless!"

Strangely enough, when his hand was grabbed like that, Ji Zhuo's body stiffened abruptly, and he instantly became obedient.

His gaze inadvertently fell on Lin Xihe's face. He saw that the girl's cheeks were rosy, exuding a charming and cute vibe. Coupled with the velvet flower, it unexpectedly gave her a unique kind of allure. He was momentarily captivated by her beauty.

Lin Xihe felt uncomfortable under his gaze and her heart was in turmoil. She quickly changed the subject and said, "Now that I've sprained my ankle, it's good that you can move around. From now on, you'll be in charge of cooking for the next few days. You'd better take on this important 'chef' role."

I thought I would have to use a lot of persuasion and coaxing to get it to work.

Unexpectedly, Ji Zhuo simply nodded slightly, his expression calm, and uttered a single word: "Okay."

"Okay?" She couldn't help but widen her eyes, her face full of surprise.

"Okay, I'll go in a bit. Let me take a look at your foot first." With that, Ji Zhuo strode over and steadily picked up Lin Xihe, who was sitting on the edge of the bed, and moved her back a little so that her injured foot could be placed flat on the bed.

"Don't just hug me like that." Lin Xihe's face flushed red, both ashamed and angry, as she struggled and protested.

"Try your best."

"What do you mean by 'try your best'?" Lin Xihe persisted, her brows furrowed as she pressed on.

"Shh. You're so noisy." Ji Zhuo frowned slightly, bent down and squatted down, his slender fingers deftly removing Lin Xihe's shoes and socks. When he saw that her ankle was red and swollen, a look of pity flashed in his eyes, and his cold expression softened a bit.

"Don't move around too much these next few days. Have you applied the medicine?" Ji Zhuo looked up, his voice cold, but his concern was evident.

"Yes, Dr. Ye has already applied it to me."

Lin Xihe answered softly, looking down at her ankle, not paying much attention to Ji Zhuo's change in expression.

Upon hearing this, Ji Zhuo's aura seemed to intensify, revealing a hint of displeasure. She coldly said, "Can't you apply the ointment yourself? Why do you have to trouble others?" Her words were laced with sarcasm, as if she were complaining about her dependence on others.

"Dr. Ye is happy to help, unlike you, who acts like a king all day long, expecting to be waited on hand and foot. I have to serve you. If I relied on you, my legs would probably never heal properly." Lin Xihe rolled her eyes and complained without any politeness.

“I’m much better now. If you like being taken care of, I’ll take care of you from now on.” Ji Zhuo suppressed the jealousy in his heart.

Lin Xihe raised her eyes and carefully examined the man in front of her. Now, his behavior and mannerisms seemed to have suddenly changed. He had a kind of naivety and immaturity, just like a young boy who was just beginning to experience love and was full of enthusiasm, but also a bit stubborn and obstinate.

But she had already made up her mind.

Having decided to get along well with Ye Yunfan, she naturally did not want to have any further involvement with this person in the future. Cutting ties was the right thing to do.

Thinking this, Lin Xihe called out, "A-Jian."

Ji Zhuo, who was putting socks on Lin Xihe, was startled by the sound and looked up to ask, "What's wrong?"

"Well... although we shared a bed for two nights because of the freezing cold, it was a last resort. In the dead of winter, we were afraid of freezing to death, so we resorted to this. It was a matter of life and death, and we didn't care about formalities. Please don't feel responsible for me because of this..."

"You don't want me to take responsibility for you?" Ji Zhuo frowned slightly, a complicated look flashing in his eyes, as if he was puzzled. His voice turned cold as he stared intently at Lin Xihe, as if trying to see through her thoughts.

"We've only spent a few nights together, and now that you've lost your memory, you only recognize me and it's only natural that you'd be a little dependent on me. But please don't mistake this dependence for other feelings and create unnecessary misunderstandings." Lin Xihe avoided his gaze, lowered her eyes to stare at the ground, her words clear and her tone resolute, trying to sever all ties between them and leave no room for anything else.

"It's none of your business to tell me how I feel about you." Ji Zhuo's face darkened, and he instantly reverted to his usual aloof and domineering demeanor, completely shutting down Lin Xihe's words.

Lin Xihe was both angry and annoyed: "Are you even speaking human language? I don't want to talk to you. Do whatever you want."
