Chapter 208 Another Show of Goodwill

After Lin Xihe returned, she and Xu Qi immediately set off through the back door.

To avoid attracting attention, she disguised herself as a man.

Fifteen minutes later, Lin Xihe arrived at Mu Ruoyan's location.

It was a rather grand mansion, with the words "Liu Mansion" written on the plaque hanging high above the entrance.

The servant at the door spotted Xu Qi immediately and respectfully ushered them inside.

Lin Xihe was extremely nervous and uneasy.

Mu Ruoyan had been in a bad mood for several days, and she was really unsure whether he would pay any attention to her when she went to see him this time.

In the past, if she offended Mu Ruoyan, he would immediately lash out, unlike now where he would silently sulk. Thinking about it this way, Lin Xihe realized that what she said that day must have deeply hurt him.

Lin Xihe followed Xu Qi through the winding corridors and walked quite a distance before finally arriving at the courtyard where Mu Ruoyan was.

As soon as the two stepped into the courtyard, Xu Qi said, "Miss, the master is in the study right now. I'll go in and inform him."

"No, I'll go by myself."

Lin Xihe was worried, fearing that Mu Ruoyan would refuse to see her after Xu Qi went in to report.

Xu Qi hesitated for a moment, but finally nodded in agreement.

He waved his hand, signaling the guards at the gate to retreat outside the courtyard.

Others might not understand, but he knew in his heart that if the two met, they would either cry or make a scene, and might even have a big fight. It was better for him to stay outside and wait.

Lin Xihe cautiously peeked into the study and saw Mu Ruoyan sitting at the desk, engrossed in reading a book.

He was already aloof and arrogant, and now, as he focused intently on reading, he appeared even more otherworldly, unlike anyone else in this world.

Dressed in a moon-white robe, her hair tied up with a warm jade hairpin, she looked like an immortal who had stepped out of a painting.

Lin Xihe timidly entered the study, but Mu Ruoyan did not raise her head. Instead, her slender fingers gently rested on the edge of the book, preparing to turn to the next page.

"Mu Ruoyan..." Lin Xihe spoke softly, her tone carrying a hint of flattery.

Mu Ruoyan didn't look up. In fact, he had already noticed that the only person in the courtyard whose footsteps he recognized so well was hers.

Seeing that Mu Ruoyan did not respond, Lin Xihe mustered up her courage and took a few more steps forward.

"Young Master Mu?" she called again.

Mu Ruoyan continued to ignore her, as if she were invisible.

Helpless, Lin Xihe could only walk to Mu Ruoyan's side, but even so, Mu Ruoyan didn't even glance at her.

However, Lin Xihe was also relieved that he hadn't kicked her out.

Lin Xihe stood beside Mu Ruoyan for a while and called his name several times, but Mu Ruoyan still did not respond.

Lin Xihe gritted her teeth, mustered her courage, and reached out to take the book from Mu Ruoyan's hand.

The moment her hand touched the book, Mu Ruoyan finally looked up at her, her eyes calm and indifferent, before gently pushing her hand away and continuing to read.

Lin Xihe knew that she needed Mu Ruoyan's help this time, but based on her understanding of Mu Ruoyan, if she knelt down and begged for mercy, he probably wouldn't pay any attention to her even if she knelt until night.

She felt that since Mu Ruoyan was willing to see her and hadn't kicked her out, he must be waiting for her to coax him.

Having no other choice at the moment, I steeled myself and reached out to snatch the book again.

But as soon as she reached out her hand, Mu Ruoyan pushed it away without any mercy.

"roll."

Mu Ruo spoke in a flat tone, coldly uttering a single word.

"I can't leave... I really have something to ask of you, Mu Ruoyan, can't you just listen to me for a bit?" Lin Xihe didn't give up. She stretched out her hands, trying to cup Mu Ruoyan's face and make him look at her.

However, Mu Ruoyan's face seemed to be nailed to the spot; she tried to pry it open, but couldn't budge it an inch.

At this moment, we cannot rashly reveal what we want. The most urgent task is to appease Mu Ruoyan so that he will soften his heart and compromise.

She made up her mind and stopped worrying about everything else; she had already prepared herself to pay the price before she came.

So, she leaned down slightly, nimbly slipped into the crook of Mu Ruoyan's arm where he was holding the book, faced him, and then quickly straddled Mu Ruoyan's lap.

She felt a little awkward, so she sat back up and tried to look as natural as possible.

Seeing this, Mu Ruoyan threw the book in her hand aside. Her slender fingers remained on the table, showing no intention of pulling them back. She thus imprisoned Lin Xihe between her arms, yet deliberately avoided touching her.

"What? Miss Lin, isn't it enough that I've already left? Do you want me to leave Da Hao completely?" Mu Ruo's tone was full of sarcasm.

"Mu Ruoyan, are you still angry with me?"

Lin Xihe raised her head, looking intently at Mu Ruoyan with a hint of anticipation in her eyes.

A hint of helplessness flashed in Mu Ruoyan's eyes. Was this considered coaxing someone?

Is this how you try to coax someone?

He only called his name softly a few times and then casually sat on his lap, and he thought he could calm him down?

He took a deep breath, trying to control his emotions, and said, "Why should I be angry?"

“I told you to get lost before…” Lin Xihe murmured.

"I've already left! If you're still not satisfied, I can just go back to the Northern Border. It was wrong of me to trouble you to come to my manor in person to kick me out. Do you need me to leave now?"

Mu Ruoyan looked serious, glancing down at her own legs where Lin Xihe was sitting: "Miss Lin, please get off my lap."
