"Help you? Why should I? Just because you have no other choice, does that mean I have to help you?" Mu Ruoyan's eyes were cold, and her tone was full of disdain.
"We can discuss terms; feel free to name your terms."
Lin Xihe gripped Mu Ruoyan's arm tightly, her expression anxious and her eyes full of anticipation.
"What's there to talk about with you? Didn't you say you weren't anything special and told me to go find someone else? So what gives you the leverage to negotiate with me now?"
Mu Ruoyan mercilessly retorted with a quote that Lin Xihe had once made.
Lin Xihe was speechless for a moment, only to hear Mu Ruoyan continue coldly, "I am neither your childhood sweetheart nor someone you grew up with, nor do we have any mutual feelings for each other, so why should I help you?"
These were the words Lin Xihe had said to him when she hurt him before, and now he was returning them word for word.
Lin Xihe was about to open her mouth to refute, but found that she couldn't find the right words to respond.
"Let's go back, Lin Xihe. I'm going back to the Northern Border now." Mu Ruoyan said, placing his hands on Lin Xihe's waist, preparing to lift her off his lap.
Lin Xihe saw through his intention, immediately leaned forward, hugged Mu Ruoyan's neck, and buried her whole body in his arms.
"Don't go, Mu Ruoyan, please help me, okay? I know this is despicable, but you're the only one I can rely on right now." Lin Xihe whispered in Mu Ruoyan's ear, her voice low and full of pleading.
Mu Ruoyan felt that her initiative in embracing him carried a warm warmth, and that familiar scent instantly enveloped him.
He appeared unmoved, but his heart was filled with ripples of emotion.
He loved Lin Xihe's soft and gentle way of speaking to him right now. Her hair brushed against his cheek, giving him a ticklish feeling that made his heart flutter.
He was captivated by her tenderness and the feeling of her leaning against him. In the past, she had always been aloof from him, but now she was so proactive, making him want to indulge in her.
But reason kept pulling him back, reminding him that Lin Xihe might only be doing this to ask for his help.
Lin Xihe could only continue trying: "That day I didn't treat you like anyone else. You are you, unique and irreplaceable. How could I not know it was you..."
Upon hearing this, Mu Ruoyan felt a surge of joy, but it was fleeting.
He knew that Lin Xihe was only saying these things to coax him into helping her.
Lin Xihe was extremely anxious. She raised her head and met Mu Ruoyan's eyes again.
In those eyes, there was the same expression he used to show when he doted on her.
Lin Xihe gritted her teeth, lowered her head, and kissed Mu Ruoyan's lips directly.
His lips had kissed her countless times, but this was the first time she had taken the initiative like this.
She mimicked his previous actions and took the initiative.
Mu Ruoyan initially responded somewhat passively. Seeing this, Lin Xihe gently rubbed his earlobe with her hand, then left his lips and kissed his neck instead.
"Lin Xihe, do you know what you're doing?"
Mu Ruoyan lowered his voice and asked, his deep, desire-filled voice all too familiar to Lin Xihe.
She sensed his urgency and said breathlessly, "If I give myself to you, you'll go save him, right?"
Mu Ruoyan's breathing became more and more rapid, and he forcibly suppressed his inner desires.
He gripped Lin Xihe's chin tightly, his gaze intense, and said firmly, word by word, "As long as I'm alive, you'll stay with me, and I'll ensure the safety of those you care about. You'd better think it through; if they dare to lie to me, they'll all die."
"When you say 'everyone,' do you mean everyone I care about?" Lin Xihe asked, her voice trembling slightly.
"right."
Mu Ruoyan answered decisively, without the slightest hesitation.
Lin Xihe looked up at Mu Ruoyan and saw an unwavering determination in his eyes.
She believed that Mu Ruoyan had the ability, and if she hesitated any longer, Ji Zhuo might really disappear from this world forever.
Thinking of this, Lin Xihe no longer hesitated, lowered her head, and kissed Mu Ruoyan's lips again.
This kiss carried a resolute determination, but also a deep concern and worry for Ji Zhuo.
Mu Ruoyan sensed Lin Xihe's decision and no longer needed to pretend; his suppressed emotions erupted instantly.
He pressed Lin Xihe's head down, deepening the kiss, making it passionate and intense.
At this moment, he had only one thought in his mind: to make Lin Xihe completely belong to him.
Mu Ruoyan stood up, holding Lin Xihe, and shouted loudly towards the door, "Xu Qi, open the door!"
Although he was burning with desire and longed for her, he was afraid that Lin Xihe would not be able to bear it while they were in the study. After a moment's thought, he decisively carried her back to his bedroom.
Mu Ruoyan was immersed in it, taking from her body again and again, filled with the longing that had accumulated over the months of separation.
After an unknown amount of time, it all finally came to an end.
Lin Xihe finally mustered up her courage and urged, "Can you go save Ji Zhuo now?"
Mu Ruoyan frowned slightly: "Disappointing."
"We made a promise, didn't we?" Lin Xihe tried to restrain herself, but her tone still carried dissatisfaction.
"I had already arranged everything before Ji Zhuo left the capital. I just haven't interfered with your emperor's actions towards him. He's not dead yet, just poisoned. He'll recover in a few days."
"You knew all along? Was he seriously injured?" Lin Xihe asked, her eyes full of concern.
“Not dead, not crippled. But if you keep asking about other men after we’ve been intimate, I have plenty of ways to make you so tired you can’t even speak.” Mu Ruoyan said, her hands roaming restlessly over Lin Xihe’s body.
