Chapter 216 Buried

Lin Xihe and Ling Xue helped Ji Zhuo, who had collapsed to the ground, to his feet. Seeing Ji Zhuo's weak appearance and the blood he had vomited on the ground, her heart ached, and tears streamed down her face, soaking her clothes.

"Ling Xue, quickly go and fetch Doctor Tao!" Lin Xihe ordered anxiously.

"Should we help Lord Ji inside?"

"Don't move him, hurry up and go!"

"Yes, miss." Ling Xue replied and ran off quickly.

Lin Xihe had Ji Zhuo lean against a wooden stake in the courtyard. At this moment, she didn't even dare to bring him into the house, for fear of angering Mu Ruoyan again and bringing trouble to Ji Zhuo.

Ji Zhuo had just sat up straight when he coughed violently again. Lin Xihe quickly reached out and gently patted his chest to help him catch his breath.

Ignoring the pain in his body, Ji Zhuo reached out and tightly grasped Lin Xihe's hand, asking urgently with a hint of resentment, "He forced you, didn't he?"

Lin Xihe's hand trembled slightly in his palm, and her movements paused for a moment.

She lowered her eyes, not daring to look directly into Ji Zhuo's burning eyes, only staring at her hand that he was holding tightly, her voice as soft as a mosquito's buzz, yet every word was clear: "No, it was my own choice, he didn't force me."

"You know perfectly well that I would rather..."

“But I don’t want to!” Lin Xihe interrupted him, her voice choked with emotion.

"I don't want to! Ah Zhuo, I really don't want to! You shouldn't have gotten involved in all this trouble. It's all because of my return that you've fallen into such a dangerous situation. I can't be so selfish, and neither can you. You still have parents at home! You can't let them bury their child, can you?"

Lin Xihe's voice grew softer and softer until it was almost a murmur to herself.

She kept her head down the whole time, and tears finally streamed down her face uncontrollably, dripping onto their clasped hands, icy cold.

"Ah Zhuo, you were originally highly regarded by His Majesty and your career should have been smooth sailing. It was only because you met me that you ended up like this today. Perhaps it was a mistake for us to know each other." Her voice was low and tinged with regret, as if she were blaming herself for dragging him into this undeserved disaster.

"Xi'er, why do you think like that? It's not like that." Ji Zhuo's voice was low and tinged with heartache. He reached out his other hand to wipe away the tears on her face, but she gently avoided it.

Upon hearing Lin Xihe's words, Ji Zhuo felt as if his heart was being torn apart; the pain was so intense that he could barely breathe.

His fingers tightened slightly, holding her hand firmly, as if afraid that if he let go, she would disappear.

"I will try! I will definitely find a way!" Ji Zhuo's voice was deep and firm, carrying an undeniable determination.

He pulled Lin Xihe into his arms tightly, partly to talk to her, but more like to encourage himself.

His arms were wrapped tightly around her, as if he wanted to merge her into his very bones and never be separated from her again.

The current situation is extremely unfavorable to him, but no matter how difficult the situation is, he would never want his beloved woman to use her body to exchange for his safety.

Lin Xihe lingered in the warmth of Ji Zhuo's embrace, closing her eyes, wanting to etch this moment deeply into her heart. She knew that she would probably never have such an opportunity again. However, she only allowed herself to indulge for a moment before resolutely pushing Ji Zhuo away, her tone firm: "Don't think of any more ways."

“Even if I don’t beg him this time, if he insists on keeping me by his side, I won’t be able to escape with his methods. Besides, this time I took the initiative to beg him to save you from danger, and I have already agreed to go with him.” Her voice was calm, but it revealed an unwavering determination.

"So what if I agree?!" Ji Zhuo's voice was filled with resentment and anger. He had rushed back day and night just to be there for their wedding. He had looked forward to it for so long, but reality had dealt him such a heavy blow, catching him completely off guard. How could he just back down like this?
