Lin Xihe dragged her tired body and walked heavily back to the Lin residence.
The moonlight cast her long, thin shadow, which seemed to carry her weariness as it stretched helplessly across the ground.
"Miss, I'll fetch you some water right away. Wash up and get some sleep." Seeing her tired and haggard face, Ling Xue quickly stepped forward and said softly.
"I'm not washing anymore, I'm too tired... Let's talk about it tomorrow. You should go and rest too." Lin Xihe waved her hand weakly, her voice so low it was almost inaudible. She felt completely powerless, and even speaking a single word was difficult.
"Alright, then this servant will take her leave." Seeing her like this, Ling Xue didn't dare to say anything more and quietly withdrew.
Lin Xihe pushed open the door, closed it, and leaned wearily against the door panel. She closed her eyes and let out a long sigh.
Just then, a dark shadow flashed past her eyes, moving so fast that she had no time to react.
Immediately afterwards, a strong arm reached out like an iron clamp and pulled her into its embrace.
Before she could recover from her shock, the man's burning lips pressed down on hers without warning, domineering and urgent, as if he wanted to meld her whole body into his and make her a part of him.
Lin Xihe's eyes widened in shock. She instinctively wanted to cry for help, but the sound was blocked by the man's lips and teeth.
The man's kiss was extremely aggressive, as if he wanted to devour her whole and consume all her resistance.
In a moment of panic, Lin Xihe suddenly lifted her heel and stomped hard on the man's foot with all her might.
"Ugh—" The man cried out in pain, his movements faltering, and Lin Xihe took the opportunity to break free from his grasp.
However, before he could even utter a sound, a crisp slap landed heavily on his face.
"Mu Ruoyan, are you out of your mind?!" Lin Xihe glared at him, her voice filled with resentment.
Mu Ruoyan turned his head to the side after being hit, but remained motionless. A hint of helplessness flashed in his eyes, then he leaned closer, seemingly wanting to continue the kiss.
Seeing this, Lin Xihe did not back down and raised her hand to slap him again.
This time, she poured all her anger and grievances into that slap, the crisp sound particularly jarring in the quiet room.
Mu Ruoyan stretched out her fist, gently rubbed her face which was still sore from the punch, and murmured with a wry smile, "Doesn't your hand hurt?"
Lin Xihe gritted her teeth, glared at him, and did not answer.
He suppressed his anger and didn't pursue her violent behavior. Instead, he coldly questioned her, "Where did you go?"
"What's it to you!" Lin Xihe replied coldly, her tone full of aloofness, and walked past him straight to the bedside.
Seeing this, Mu Ruoyan reached out and pulled her back, roughly pressing her against the door.
Despite his burning anger, he instinctively placed his hand behind her back, afraid that the hard door would hurt her.
"Lin Xihe, can't you talk to me properly?" His voice was low, with a hint of helplessness and exhaustion, as if he had exhausted all his strength in his stubborn confrontation with her.
In the darkness, Lin Xihe glared at him defiantly, her tone as hard as ice: "If you want to hear nice things, there are plenty of people willing to say them. What do you want from me?"
Mu Ruoyan took a deep breath, trying to calm the turbulent emotions in his heart. He knew he was always tough, but he was always helpless when facing Lin Xihe. Her stubbornness left him helpless, yet he couldn't let go.
Once he had calmed down a bit, he said in a low voice, "Who can I go to? I only have you. Where do you want to send me?"
His voice held a hint of compromise, a show of weakness. He couldn't hold back any longer; he was the first to back down, the first to admit his mistake. He knew he was always tough, but Lin Xihe wouldn't budge an inch, leaving him helpless.
Upon hearing his words, Lin Xihe felt a surge of pent-up grievances well up inside her, and tears streamed down her face uncontrollably: "You're lying to me again, aren't you? Mu Ruoyan, why are you still lying to me?"
In the darkness, her tears shimmered like clear crystals, reflecting a faint light.
Upon seeing this, Mu Ruoyan's heart clenched, and she panicked. She hurriedly reached out to wipe away the tears on Lin Xihe's face, her voice softening involuntarily: "I didn't lie to you, Lin Xihe, you're all I have."
"Don't cry, don't cry, how could I have lied to you?"
Mu Ruoyan had seen Lin Xihe cry many times, but he had never seen her cry like this before—the kind of crying that comes from a couple who have been wronged and are waiting to be comforted.
Her tears fell like pearls from a broken string, one after another, crashing down on his heart.
Mu Ruoyan gently wiped away her tears with her fingertips, but her tears flowed like a spring, unstoppable.
He seemed a little flustered, and his voice softened: "What did I do? Can you tell me first? I need to know where to start to coax you."
At this moment, he had long since forgotten his anger at not seeing her return after waiting here for an hour. His mind was now filled with thoughts of how to stop her from feeling wronged and stop her from crying like this.
Strangely enough, he didn't feel wronged even after being slapped twice by her, but she was the first to burst into tears.
Lin Xihe seemed to suddenly remember something, and abruptly pushed his hand away, her tone filled with disgust: "Get out, you're filthy."
Is he dirty?
Mu Ruoyan was stunned for a moment, and before his brain could react, Lin Xihe took the opportunity to push him away forcefully and quickly sat down on the edge of the bed.
"Where am I dirty? You don't shower every day. I just took a shower yesterday, how could I be dirty?" Mu Ruoyan rambled on as she slowly squatted down in front of her and reached out to hold her hand.
