Chapter 237 Sugar-Coated Bullets

I accept your proposal.

Upon hearing this, Lin Xihe froze for a moment, a hint of disbelief flashing in her eyes. She gazed at Ji Zhuo, her voice trembling slightly, "Really?"

"Yes." Ji Zhuo answered firmly, looking back at Lin Xihe without the slightest intention of backing down.

"What suggestion?" Mu Ruoyan's voice suddenly interrupted, as he coldly observed the undercurrents between the two.

If he had known this would happen, he would never have let Lin Xihe come back so soon.

Lin Xihe sensed the increasingly cold and oppressive aura emanating from Mu Ruoyan and subconsciously clenched the hem of her clothes. Her mind was in turmoil; she had only brought it up with Ji Zhuo on a whim, but she hadn't expected him to agree.

However, the tense atmosphere at the moment, where swords are drawn and war seems imminent, is clearly not the right time for a detailed discussion.

"I understand, A-Zhuo, you should go back now," Lin Xihe said softly, her eyes pleading. She knew Mu Ruoyan's temperament and was afraid that he might do something irreversible in a moment of impulse.

Ji Zhuo's gaze lingered on Lin Xihe's slightly pale face for a moment, then swept over Mu Ruoyan's gloomy expression, and finally nodded: "Tang Bao has already fallen asleep. I'll come again tomorrow."

After saying that, he turned and left, his back still as straight as a pine tree, yet it seemed to carry a hint of something indescribable.

Mu Ruoyan instinctively wanted to chase after him to ask what was going on, but Lin Xihe grabbed her arm and asked, "Where are you going?"

He turned around abruptly, his eyes blazing with anger: "Tell me yourself."

Lin Xihe's heart tightened, and she forced a smile: "I'll explain to you later. I'm going to check on my daughter first." With that, she took Mu Ruoyan's arm and gently led him into the house.

Mu Ruoyan felt the warmth from his arm, but his unease grew. The person who had been furious just moments before had suddenly become docile, and this unusual change set off alarm bells in his mind.

He couldn't help but recall the absurd suggestion Lin Xihe had made before, the idea that had once made him punish her for an entire night in a fit of anger.

But in an instant, he began to doubt himself.

Although he looked down on Ji Zhuo, to be fair, Ji Zhuo was outstanding in appearance and family background. How could such a person agree to such an absurd thing?

“Lin Xihe,” he stopped, his voice cold, “you’d better not have any improper thoughts.”

Lin Xihe turned around, her smile a little stiff, and nodded repeatedly.

She took a few more steps closer, took Mu Ruoyan's arm again, and almost pressed her whole body against him.

Mu Ruoyan was somewhat taken aback by her sudden display of affection.

Although the two had already confessed their feelings to each other, Lin Xihe rarely took the initiative and had never even held hands, let alone been so intimate.

He suppressed the complex emotions surging within him and gently pulled his hand away from hers: "I can walk by myself."

He knew he had been too lenient with her, so he needed to stay clear-headed. Every unusual move Lin Xihe made was like a honeyed treat laced with poison; he couldn't let momentary weakness lead him to make a decision he would later regret.

Lin Xihe reluctantly withdrew her hand and went into the house alone.

Inside the room, Ling Shuang quietly stood guard by the bedside. Tang Bao was fast asleep, her little face looking especially serene in the candlelight.

Lin Xihe sat on the edge of the bed, her gaze fixed on her daughter, but her thoughts were churning and she could not calm down for a long time.

Ji Zhuo actually agreed?!

She was filled with disbelief and involuntarily asked herself the same question again.

Does this mean that if Mu Ruoyan agrees, she won't need to separate from Ji Zhuo?

But as soon as the thought crossed her mind, she couldn't help but shudder—given Mu Ruoyan's personality, if she found out, she would probably take action against Ji Zhuo in a fit of anger.

While lost in thought, Lin Xihe would occasionally steal glances at Mu Ruoyan, wondering how likely it was that she would anger him if she actually brought up that matter.

At this moment, Ling Xue came in from outside the door and softly reported, "Miss, the meal is ready."

"Okay, I'll go right away." Lin Xihe nodded, then looked at Mu Ruoyan, hesitated for a moment, and then softly called out, "Ayan."

Upon hearing this, Mu Ruoyan was taken aback, instinctively pointing to herself with an incredulous expression: "Are you calling me?"

His reaction made it seem as if Lin Xihe calling him was some absurd and outrageous thing.

Lin Xihe smiled sweetly, got up and walked towards Mu Ruoyan, who was sitting on the daybed: "Yes, Ayan."

Mu Ruoyan shivered slightly, feeling a chill run down his spine. As Lin Xihe drew closer, he immediately stood up and practically fled past her, heading straight for the door: "Let's... go have a meal."

As I walked, I silently warned myself: Don't be fooled by her; something is definitely amiss if things seem unusual.

Lin Xihe also understood that her intention to curry favor was too obvious.

But Ji Zhuo had finally agreed, and she really wanted to strike while the iron was hot and make it happen. She couldn't explain what kind of obsession this was, but as long as she thought about living another fifty years, but not having Ji Zhuo by her side during those fifty years, she knew in her heart that she would never want to face such a situation.

Mu Ruoyan walked ahead, and Lin Xihe quickened her pace, jogging alongside him.

She reached out her hand, her fingertips gently slipping between his fingers, and their fingers intertwined tightly.

"Ayan, let's walk hand in hand." Her voice was soft, with a hint of coquetry.

She never intended to put on a brave face in front of Mu Ruoyan. She would do whatever he liked, and as for when she couldn't help herself... well, that would have to wait and see.
