Chapter 240 System Crash

Lin Xihe's sudden fainting plunged the entire Northern Imperial Hospital into unprecedented chaos.

The imperial physicians took turns examining her, administering acupuncture and medicine, but they could not find any clues. She showed no signs of poisoning, and her pulse was steady and normal, but she just could not wake up no matter what they did.

Mu Ruoyan put aside all official duties and stayed by her bedside day and night, never leaving her side. His eyes were bloodshot, his expression was haggard, and he was utterly dejected.

He tried every method he could think of, but to no avail.

Lin Xihe's coma was like a dull knife, cutting into his heart inch by inch.

It has been seven days.

Lin Xihe has been unconscious for so long without a drop of water. The doctors and imperial physicians summoned from outside are helpless and have even issued an ultimatum—she may never wake up again.

Mu Ruoyan sat on the edge of the bed and gently held her hand. Her hand was icy cold and lifeless. He pressed her hand against his face and murmured, "Xihe, wake up... don't scare me, okay?" His voice was hoarse and choked with emotion. He had probably said these words a thousand times.

He has barely slept these past few days, and he looks extremely haggard.

In his world, she was the only person he cared about left. If she didn't wake up, he didn't know how much longer he could hold on.

In the dead of night, Mu Ruoyan leaned against the headboard, staring blankly at the lifeless person on the bed.

Moonlight streamed in, falling on Lin Xihe's face and casting a soft glow on her pale complexion. He reached out and gently stroked her brows and eyes, whispering to himself, "Are you blaming me? Blaming me for forcing you back to the Northern Border, blaming me for making you suffer so much... What would I do if you didn't wake up?"

His voice grew softer and softer until it became almost a silent murmur.

A tear slid down his cheek and landed on the back of Lin Xihe's hand.

He never imagined that he would feel so helpless.

"Xihe, if you don't wake up, I'll sleep with you..." On the fifth day, Mu Ruoyan had already made up his mind that if Lin Xihe left, he would not let her leave alone.

Just then, Lin Xihe's eyelashes suddenly trembled slightly.

Mu Ruoyan held her breath, afraid she was seeing things. Then, her fingers curled slightly, and her eyelids slowly opened, revealing a pair of bewildered eyes.

"Ayan..." Her voice was weak, but it sounded like heavenly music to Mu Ruoyan.

"I'm here, I'm here!" He gripped her hand tightly, his voice trembling. "You're finally awake..."

Lin Xihe looked at his haggard face and felt a sense of confusion.

She clearly remembered that she was just in the carriage, how did she end up lying in bed in the blink of an eye?

Why is Mu Ruoyan all unkempt and looking so disheveled?

She wanted to raise her hand to touch his face, but found herself powerless, and could only ask softly, "What... happened to me?"

Mu Ruoyan's voice was hoarse, his tone almost broken: "You were unconscious for seven days, and we couldn't find the cause. I thought you, I thought you would never wake up again." After saying that, he stepped forward and hugged Lin Xihe tightly in his arms.

"Seven days? I... I remember I was just in the carriage." Lin Xihe's voice was filled with confusion and bewilderment. At this moment, she felt that apart from being weak, she was not seriously injured.

Even after being in a coma for seven days, this is not the state one should be in.

She had a vague feeling that something was wrong, but she couldn't quite put her finger on it.

"How are you feeling now? Is there anything that's bothering you? I'll summon the imperial physician to take a look at you right away." Mu Ruoyan was agitated and seemed somewhat at a loss, her voice filled with barely concealed nervousness.

"I'm not feeling unwell, I'm just thirsty. Help me up."

Mu Ruoyan immediately stepped forward and carefully helped her up, letting her lean against the soft cushion at the head of the bed.

Ling Xue was already sobbing uncontrollably. If Mu Ruoyan hadn't been there, she would have rushed forward long ago. Hearing Lin Xihe say she was thirsty, she finally dared to step forward and carefully brought the water glass to her lips, wanting to feed her water.

“Miss, you’re finally awake…” Ling Xue’s voice choked with sobs, and tears streamed down her face.

"It's alright, I'm sorry to have worried you. I was unconscious for so long, and I didn't feel a thing," Lin Xihe said softly, her tone tinged with apology.

She took the water glass, took a small sip, and immediately felt her stomach empty, a feeling of hunger rising in her heart.

"Ling Xue, I'm hungry. I want to eat the osmanthus sugar cake you made." Her voice was weak, but it carried a familiar gentleness.

"I'll go make it for you right away!" Ling Xue quickly agreed, her eyes filled with tears, and turned to run out.

Like Mu Ruoyan, she had barely slept these past few days.

Seeing his daughter wake up, he felt both joy and sorrow.

Hearing that Lin Xihe wanted to eat something, she felt a little relieved, perhaps the girl was really alright.

"Is there anything else you'd like to eat?" Mu Ruoyan asked softly from behind her, her voice extremely low, as if afraid that this was a dream and that a loud voice would shatter this hard-won peace.

Lin Xihe looked up at him and saw that he looked haggard and his eyes were full of fatigue. Her heart softened: "Have you not eaten for several days? Tell the kitchen to make more food. I'll stay with you."

"Okay," Mu Ruoyan replied softly, then got up to order the meal to be served.

He could have asked someone else to do it, but he was worried that any movement might break the brief peace, so he made the arrangements himself.

Lin Xihe held her water glass, took small sips, and looked at Mu Ruoyan with gentle eyes, a comforting smile on her lips.

Mu Ruoyan initially returned the smile, but as he approached, his eyes gradually became complicated, even showing a hint of panic.
