Chapter 3 Misfortunes Never Stop

Having finally returned to the courtyard, Lin Xihe was already panting heavily, feeling as if she was about to fall apart.

The two entered the house, and Lin Xihe quickly closed the drafty door, hoping to block out some of the chill.

Lin Xihe used her last bit of strength to throw the person directly to the ground, and then hurriedly went to light the candles.

As the flickering candlelight illuminated the scene, she realized that she was also stained with blood, the glaring red color sending a chill down her spine.

Looking at the man on the ground, she realized he had completely fainted as soon as he entered the house. Since he had died in her own house, she was too afraid to live there anymore.

"Wake up."

"Hey, if you don't wake up soon, I'm going to throw you out."

"Hello"

Lin Xihe shouted and shook him, but he didn't react at all, remaining motionless like a stagnant pool.

"Speechless," Lin Xihe couldn't help but complain.

Undeterred, she searched the man's body but found no silver notes, only the two jade pendants at his waist and a few jars of medicine.

The medicine bottle was quite exquisite, with the name of the medicine engraved on it.

"You damn liar, you're trying to scam me even though you don't have any money?"

Lin Xihe stomped her feet in anger, but her stomach was burning with unbearable pain... She felt that if she didn't save this person, she might really be poisoned to death.

After much deliberation, Lin Xihe could only endure the pain and fetch a basin of water.

When she pulled open the man's clothes, she discovered numerous horrifying wounds on his body, which made her scalp crawl. She sprinkled the "wound medicine" she found on the man's body on the wounds, trying to stop the bleeding. Looking at the pills that looked like tonics and life-saving medicine, she didn't care about anything else and stuffed a few into the man's mouth.

I took two pills haphazardly, and strangely enough, the pain actually subsided a bit.

After treating her own wounds, Lin Xihe washed the blood off the man's face.

But by then, the few candles in the house had burned out, and the room was plunged into darkness.

Her place was already remote, and the strong smell of blood in the air could easily attract wild animals from the neighborhood. Left with no other choice, Lin Xihe quickly washed her blood-stained clothes before daring to go to sleep.

As dawn broke, a few rays of sunlight streamed through the dilapidated windows, adding a touch of light to the humble house.

Ji Zhuo slowly opened his eyes and saw that he was lying on a pile of messy hay, which made his body feel uncomfortable. The sheet covering him was pitifully thin and full of patches.

He was shirtless at the moment, and the wounds on his body had been treated. The tattered strips of cloth wrapped around his body made him look rather disheveled.

He turned his head and saw a petite figure lying on the bed not far away, clutching her sword tightly in her arms, but her face was turned inward and her features were not visible.

In short, everything in this house exuded an air of dilapidation and shabbyness.

Ji Zhuo tried to move his body, but due to the severe injury and blood loss yesterday, even after taking the antidote, his body still felt extremely heavy. Every movement was painful and agonizing, requiring a great deal of effort to move even the slightest bit.

His mind was clear as a mirror; he knew that if it weren't for the woman's help yesterday, he would probably have been left to rot in the wilderness, a victim of birds of prey, or perhaps he would have died from blood loss in the mountains.

Once I recover from my injuries, I will make amends to this woman handsomely.

Before long, the woman on the bed seemed to be awakened by the dawn and began to move.

Ji Zhuo became alert and quickly closed his eyes, pretending to be asleep, but his ears were perked up, picking up on the sounds around him.

As the faint footsteps drew closer, he could sense that the woman was walking towards him. Her breathing was steady but revealed a hint of tension, and her body remained motionless.

Suddenly, with a "whoosh," came the sound of a sword being drawn.

"My goodness, this sword is quite long."

Lin Xihe muttered to herself as she casually tossed the scabbard onto the bed, then placed the gleaming sword in front of the man's neck.

However, her hand trembled slightly uncontrollably. After all, the sword was extremely sharp, and the slightest mistake could really kill someone. Moreover, the man in front of her was so handsome, with eyebrows like ink paintings and a nose like a hanging gall bladder. It would be a real pity to cut a gash on his face.

Lin Xihe took a deep breath to encourage herself.

"Hey! Get up!" Lin Xihe shouted loudly on purpose, trying to intimidate the other party with her imposing manner.

Ji Zhuo then pretended to be startled awake, slowly opened his eyes, and looked at the woman in front of him with a bewildered expression, as if he didn't understand the situation.

Ji Zhuo raised his eyes, his gaze inadvertently falling on the woman.

Although she was dressed in coarse linen clothes, her eyebrows were like distant mountains, her eyes were bright and clear, her lips were like cherries, and her face was like a peach blossom. Her fair face was flushed with a faint blush, like a peach blossom in full bloom in spring, bright and beautiful.

His movements were clumsy; she was holding a sword and looking at him warily, her posture making her look a bit like a fool.

"You despicable man, I promised to save you, why did you poison me? Where is my money?" Lin Xihe said through gritted teeth, her eyes fixed on the man, waiting for his answer.

If the man didn't speak properly, she would threaten him with her sword.

After waiting for a long time, the man in front of her still looked confused and didn't say a word.

"Say something!" Lin Xihe shouted anxiously, moving the sword closer to the man's neck.

Ji Zhuo secretly sized up the woman in front of him. He tried to get up, but pain shot through his internal organs and every part of his body, especially his head.

After struggling a couple of times and moving slightly, the pain was still intense. Ji Zhuo thought to himself that in his current physical condition, he probably couldn't even beat the seemingly delicate woman in front of him.
