Lin Xihe quickly tidied up the clothes, and soon folded the clothes and bedding neatly. Then she grabbed a sheet and wrapped it up.
This trip back to Beijing with Ji Zhuo is uncertain, but if we don't go this way, I fear I might suffer the pain of a broken leg. After much thought, I can only take it one step at a time.
After wrapping it up, she took a deep breath and called out to Ji Zhuo at the door, "Ji Zhuo! Come in."
Ji Zhuo strode into the room, his gaze immediately drawn to a large bag on the bed: "What's this?"
He frowned slightly, a hint of doubt in his eyes.
"Put my luggage in the car. I won't sleep in the inn's bedding on the way to Beijing. Also, have your two servants bring in the low couch from the courtyard."
"I don't want these anymore. I don't want the low platform either."
"Why?" Lin Xihe's eyes widened, a surge of dissatisfaction rising within her.
"You still want to come back?" Ji Zhuo looked at her with a half-smile, his eyes seeming to see right through her thoughts.
"If we get angry again, I still have somewhere to go," Lin Xihe muttered to herself, thinking that Ji Zhuo was too domineering, but she didn't dare to argue back loudly.
Upon hearing Lin Xihe's words, Ji Zhuo's brows twitched slightly, and his anger surged, leaving him speechless for a moment.
He thought to himself, "This woman is really delusional. Even in this predicament, she's still thinking about leaving herself a way out."
"Leave these things here. I'll buy you new ones once we get to the city. If you ever anger me and become a ghost, you can come back and look at the old things," Ji Zhuo said through gritted teeth, suppressing his anger.
Upon hearing this, Lin Xihe rolled her eyes at Ji Zhuo and cursed inwardly, "You wretched guy, all you do is say infuriating things."
But he dared not say anything and could only drag the low couch himself.
The low couch was quite heavy, and she struggled to move it even a little.
Seeing this, Ji Zhuo shook his head helplessly. Although he was angry, he couldn't bear to see her in such a sorry state, so he had his men come in and carry the low couch into the house.
Lin Xihe hurriedly ran to say goodbye to Aunt Li next door.
She stood at the door of Aunt Li's house, her eyes filled with reluctance: "Aunt Li, my brother and I are planning to return to Beijing. If anyone asks, just say so."
Aunt Li was also reluctant to leave.
She felt a pang of sorrow. She had lived in this village for so long, and although she was poor, she had lived a peaceful and comfortable life. Now, however, she was forced to leave.
Sitting in the carriage, Lin Xihe stared blankly as her village gradually receded into the distance, the familiar houses and fields slowly disappearing from sight.
She felt a mix of emotions, as things had developed too suddenly and too quickly, catching her somewhat off guard.
She had no idea what she would face in the future, and everything made her feel extremely fearful and uneasy.
Seeing Lin Xihe's dejected expression, Ji Zhuo frowned slightly and finally spoke: "Why do you look like that? Are you reluctant to leave the people here? Or do you not want to go to the capital?"
His voice carried a hint of inquiry, his gaze fixed intently on Lin Xihe's face.
"I finally got to live in a place and became a little more familiar with it, and then you forced me to leave. Who would be happy about that?" Lin Xihe pouted, her eyes full of resentment, but in her heart she was secretly blaming Ji Zhuo for his domineering and tyrannical behavior.
"You've lived in the capital for over a decade, aren't you more familiar with it than this place?"
"You investigated my background?" Lin Xihe was startled and looked up at Ji Zhuo warily.
"Lin Bin, daughter of General Lin, whose brother Lin Zhihao fell off a cliff and whose fate is unknown. She was betrothed to you since childhood. After the incident at your home, the Gu family broke off the engagement. However, the reason you were able to come here is because Gu Qinghuai felt guilty and secretly sent people to protect you and guide you to settle here. That Aunt Li has martial arts skills and can protect you in critical moments. If I hadn't returned that day, she would probably have taken action as well," Ji Zhuo said unhurriedly.
"No wonder Aunt Li always pays attention to my family."
Lin Xihe said thoughtfully, as memories of the past flooded her mind.
She remembered that when the original owner first arrived in the village, Aunt Li would appear immediately at the slightest sign of trouble.
It's just that when the village woman pressed the original owner into the water vat that time, Aunt Li was probably not at home, and the original owner suffered misfortune as a result, which gave me the opportunity to travel through time.
“Gu Qinghuai doesn’t have feelings for you; he feels guilty.” Ji Zhuo looked at Lin Xihe, his tone emphasizing.
"Who said anything about him? Once the engagement is broken off, he means nothing to me." Lin Xihe looked at Ji Zhuo, but thought to herself, "But he has a relationship with you, so you two will still be rivals in love in the future."
But it wasn't for me.
"It's good that you think that way. I can go along with you when we're outside, but when we're back with my parents, you can't act like this, swearing at people as soon as you open your mouth." Ji Zhuo's expression turned serious, and there was a hint of warning in his eyes.
"You're going to take me to meet your parents?" Lin Xihe's eyes widened, her heart filled with surprise and doubt.
No way, Ji Zhuo is planning to marry her?
"What? Why are you so surprised?" Ji Zhuo looked at her expression and found it somewhat amusing.
"You're not angry anymore? You're still willing to marry me?" Lin Xihe's voice unconsciously rose a few decibels.
"Marry you?" Ji Zhuo's face was full of disgust. He snorted coldly and cursed inwardly. He was still angry, but Lin Xihe actually dared to ask such a question.
He couldn't figure out what Lin Xihe was thinking at the moment, nor was he sure if she really cared about him. But the only thing he was sure of was that he could only feel at ease if he kept this woman under his watchful eye.
"Otherwise, why did you bring me home?" Lin Xihe asked, frowning and looking puzzled.
