Chapter 40: Shielding Ji Zhuo from a Hidden Arrow

When the scene before them became clear, there were no other men in black still breathing in the courtyard.

However, to everyone's astonishment, a man in black who had been presumed dead suddenly appeared inside the room, having taken Lin Xihe, who was hiding in the closet, hostage.

At this moment, Qin Mu had already disappeared without a trace, and his whereabouts were unknown.

"Lord Ji, if you want her to live, you'd better let my master leave obediently. Drop all your weapons, or I'll kill her right now!" the man in black roared viciously, his sharp blade pressed tightly against Lin Xihe's slender neck, a faint trace of blood appearing on his skin.

Lin Xihe knew in her heart that Qin Mu was definitely Ji Zhuo's biggest threat, so she shouted loudly, "A-Zhuo, don't listen to him. Even if you unleash your weapons, he might not let me go. Go and bring him back quickly. I'm not afraid to die!"

Lin Xihe had witnessed too many life-and-death situations today. Although she was afraid, she forced herself to remain calm.

She thought to herself that dying might allow her to return to her original world. Judging from the ruthlessness of the man in black, she probably wouldn't suffer too much pain with each swift stroke of his knife.

Ji Zhuo stared intently at the courtyard gate, pondered for a moment, and then slowly lowered the weapon in his hand.

Sun Ningxiang, standing to the side, was filled with terror, fearing that there might be other lurking men in black who might suddenly attack. She hurriedly hid behind Ji Zhuo, tightly clutching his clothes, her body trembling slightly.

"Lord Ji used to be fearless and imposing, but now he has a weakness." The man in black let out a harsh sneer when he saw Ji Zhuo's actions, and secretly increased the force in his hand.

Lin Xihe felt the blade at her neck growing colder and more piercing; it seemed this person had no intention of letting her go easily.

"I'll let your master go, but if you dare to harm my people in the slightest, whether you live or die today, everything you cherish will be lost." Ji Zhuo's tone was low but resolute, his eyes like cold stars, piercing straight at the man in black.

"Lord Ji, you used to be much calmer, didn't you?"

In the darkness, taking advantage of the moment when the man in black was distracted by Ji Zhuo, Lin Xihe secretly gestured to her right a few times. She decided to take a gamble and see if she could find a glimmer of hope.

Ji Zhuo caught a glimpse of Lin Xihe's subtle movements out of the corner of his eye, and nodded slightly without making a sound. The gesture was so small, yet it seemed to reassure Lin Xihe.

Lin Xihe seized the opportunity, stomped her heel hard on the man in black's foot, and then quickly turned her head to the right to dodge.

Caught off guard, the man in black managed to leave a bloody mark on Lin Xihe's neck with his sharp blade, but the sudden turn of events caused him to lose his aim.

At the same time, Ji Zhuo reacted swiftly, taking advantage of the man in black's panic, and instantly shot out a hidden arrow from his sleeve. The arrow, like a streak of light, accurately struck the man in black between the eyebrows.

With a "thud," the man in black fell straight to the ground and remained motionless.

Lin Xihe had just breathed a sigh of relief and was about to run towards Ji Zhuo when suddenly another man in black appeared on the roof.

The man in black held up a bow and arrow, aimed at Ji Zhuo's back, and shot it out in one smooth motion, without any hesitation.

"Ah Zhuo, watch out behind you..." Lin Xihe shouted hoarsely, her eyes blazing with fury.

In an instant, the sharp sound of arrows piercing the air rang out, and danger surged in like a tidal wave.

At this critical moment, Sun Ningxiang rushed over without hesitation, using her delicate body to shield Ji Zhuo from behind.

With a muffled "thud," the arrow struck Sun Ningxiang squarely in the shoulder.

The immense impact caused Sun Ningxiang to fall backward, landing uncontrollably on Ji Zhuo's back.

Ji Zhuo reacted quickly, turning around and catching Sun Ningxiang as she was about to fall.

Lin Xihe rushed forward in a few steps: "Miss Sun, don't move, let me take a look."

She quickly checked the injury and saw that the arrow was deeply embedded in her shoulder, and the surrounding clothes were stained red with blood.

"Miss Sun, what medicine do you have in your room to stop the bleeding? Please hold on, I'll remove the arrow to stop the bleeding," Lin Xihe said, forcing herself to remain calm.

She had already witnessed the many horrific wounds on Ji Zhuo's body and knew what it meant to pull out the arrow at this moment—it would surely be a bloody mess and excruciating pain. But the person in front of her had been seriously injured while saving Ji Zhuo, so she could not back down, neither out of compassion nor reason.

“It’s inside the house. It says ‘Hemostatic Powder’ on it.” Sun Ningxiang’s face was ashen, and she pointed with difficulty to her room.

"Lang Feng, carry Miss Sun inside. Lang Yue, fetch some water. I'll get the medicine," Ji Zhuo instructed quickly and calmly.

Although everyone had a question in their hearts at this moment, wondering why Sun Ningxiang would shield Ji Zhuo, whom she had only met once, life and death were at stake, and it was clearly not the time to worry about such things. The most urgent task was to save lives.

Therefore, Ji Zhuo made a decisive move, gently handing Sun Ningxiang over to Lang Feng, and then quickly walked towards another room.

Lang Feng carried Sun Ningxiang into the room and gently placed her on the bed.

Lin Xihe glanced at the ground and her heart sank. She saw two maids lying on the ground, their lifeless appearance clearly indicating that they were no longer alive.

She pinched her palm hard to calm herself down, then turned to Sun Ningxiang and said softly, "Miss Sun, you must keep your breathing steady and don't be afraid. We will treat your wounds right away."

"Miss Lin, seeing how nervous you are makes me even more anxious. Don't be afraid." Sun Ningxiang forced a pale smile, trying to comfort Lin Xihe.

"It's okay, you don't need to worry about me." Lin Xihe took a deep breath, pretended to be calm, picked up the scissors next to her, and carefully cut around the edge of Sun Ningxiang's wound. Her movements were slow and cautious, as if she was afraid of hurting her.
