Chapter 47 The Original Owner's Memories Return

At this moment, the maids filed in, bringing out plates of exquisite food.

Looking at the table laden with delicacies, Lin Xihe couldn't help but be secretly surprised. Hadn't the kitchen just burned down? How could they still produce such a rich and diverse array of dishes? She realized that Madam Ji, though seemingly rough around the edges, was actually quite meticulous; her personality was bold, yet she lived a refined life.

"Miss Lin, please don't take my words from yesterday to heart."

Chu Yunni put down her teacup and looked at Lin Xihe with gentle eyes.

"Don't worry, Madam Ji, and thank you for your hospitality."

Chu Yunni smiled gently, said nothing more, picked up a steamed bun from the table, and began to eat.

Looking at her unpretentious manner, Lin Xihe was secretly delighted. If her future mother-in-law had this kind of personality, then getting along with her in the future would definitely be easy and pleasant.

"You don't need to be so polite. Speaking of which, when I was young, your father admired me, but I rejected him, and he was heartbroken for a long time. Now, I'm being nicer to you as a way of making it up to him."

Chu Yunni said leisurely while chewing on a steamed bun.

Lin Xihe was stunned when she heard this.

This is completely different from the version Ji Wuzheng said yesterday. Didn't he say yesterday that Chu Yunni liked her father?

Countless questions flashed through her mind in an instant, but she quickly realized that she couldn't lose her composure, so she immediately concealed her surprise.

She maintained her smile and quickly echoed, "Madam Ji is highly skilled in martial arts and so beautiful. My father admires you, which shows his discerning eye in appreciating your charm."

In his heart, he silently apologized to the original owner's deceased father: Father, may I borrow your name for now?

Lin Xihe's well-timed praise brought a hint of pride to Chu Yunni's face.

In high spirits, she immediately picked up a delicate pastry and handed it to Lin Xihe: "Try this, it's very sweet. If you like savory food, try this bun. This soup is also very good."

Lin Xihe nodded obediently, took the pastry and took a small bite: "Mmm, this pastry is indeed delicious, thank you Madam Ji."

"How did Miss Lin and Zhuo'er meet?"

"A-Zhuo was injured and fainted near where I live. I got lost while picking fruit on the mountain and happened to run into him who was injured..." Lin Xihe recounted calmly.

Lin Xihe has a cheerful and generous personality, and she and Chu Yunni gradually discover that they share similar interests during their conversations.

Although Chu Yunni couldn't say she particularly liked Lin Xihe, it was certain that she didn't dislike the woman her son had brought home.

After finishing their breakfast, the two boarded a carriage together and slowly made their way to their house in the north of the city.

Before long, the carriage slowly came to a stop. As soon as Lin Xihe stepped off the carriage and her feet touched the ground, a familiar feeling welled up in her heart. She actually had fragments of memories of this place.

Looking up, she was surprised to find that this place was only one street away from the former owner's general's mansion.

The familiar streets and the outlines of the houses seemed to be silently calling out to the memories of the past deep in her heart.

"Madam Ji, I'd like to go take a look over there."

Lin Xihe's gaze was fixed on the direction of the General's Mansion, and her voice unconsciously carried a hint of disappointment.

Chu Yunni naturally understood that Lin Xihe was probably homesick, and a pang of pity rose in her heart. She said softly, "Let's go, I'll go with you to see."

So the two walked slowly along the long street, and with each step, the scenes from the original owner's memories would come to Lin Xihe.

In the past, although Lin Xihe also possessed the original owner's memories, those memories were like a thin veil, vague and unclear.

Only now, standing on this land that bears the imprint of the original owner's life, do those past scenes begin to come alive, as if they are actually playing out right before my eyes.

When the Lin General's Mansion came into view, Lin Xihe's steps suddenly became heavy.

A white seal was affixed to the gate, fluttering gently in the breeze. Lin Xihe felt an indescribable pang of heartache.

She couldn't help but think that the original owner's heart, yearning for her family, must have been constantly thinking about everything here.

Suddenly, Lin Xihe clearly pictured her father's face in her mind.

My father was only thirty-eight years old this year. He joined the army when he was young and was stationed in the southern border to protect the country. But I never expected that he would die on the battlefield this year.

And then there's his older brother, Lin Zhihao, who is only nineteen years old this year, a time when he should be full of vigor and ambition. But he fell off a cliff in an accident and his fate is still unknown. A year and a half has already passed in the blink of an eye.

Originally, in Lin Xihe's eyes, these were just like the stories written in a book, distant plots that had little to do with her.

But now that she was in this familiar place full of memories, Lin Xihe felt deeply how much she missed them. She could no longer hold back her tears, which gradually reddened and finally burst into tears.

It wasn't until Chu Yunni handed her a handkerchief that Lin Xihe realized she had actually shed tears.

She took the handkerchief somewhat shyly, gently wiped away her tears, and whispered, "Thank you, Madam Ji."

“Your father is a good man.” Chu Yunni looked at Lin Xihe with sincerity in her eyes, trying to comfort her.

Based on her memory of her father's appearance and temperament, Lin Xihe said softly, "I know. He usually devotes himself to military affairs and is not knowledgeable about poetry and literature."
