Chapter 71 Firmly Establish Your Resolve

The heavy snow continued to fall for two more days.

Lin Xihe locked herself in her room and didn't step out for two whole days, like a wounded little animal licking its wounds alone.

The events of that snowy night lingered in her mind, leaving her deeply troubled.

Whenever she recalls it, a complex mix of emotions wells up inside her—fear, anger, and helplessness—but amidst this turmoil, she has no choice but to suppress these feelings.

She stood quietly in front of the "Ji X" she had written, staring blankly at the two characters for a long time.

After a long while, as if she had finally made up her mind, she gently shook her head and murmured to herself: The original owner's memories are just memories, and I cannot be controlled by them.

I am Lin Xihe, not the original owner of this body, so if I have to let down someone, it can only be Gu Qinghuai.

The two-day period passed in the blink of an eye, and Lin Xihe boarded her family's carriage and set off again towards the Gu residence.

The carriage started slowly, and after only a short distance, just as it turned a corner at the entrance, the coachman's urgent shouts suddenly rang out. The carriage then jolted violently and came to an abrupt stop.

Lin Xihe was startled and quickly reached out to lift the carriage curtain and open the door. She saw a woman lying in front of the carriage, crying out in pain.

The coachman looked anxious and hurriedly explained, "Miss, the road is very slippery after the snow. This person suddenly appeared out of nowhere, and I really couldn't avoid him!"

Lin Xihe instructed Ling Shuang to get out of the car and check.

After some questioning, it was learned that the woman had probably hurt her leg by accident and was in so much pain that she was unable to walk.

Lin Xihe couldn't bear it, so she immediately decided to take the woman to the nearest clinic.

After a thorough examination, the doctor informed them that it was fortunately just a sprain and nothing serious.

After the woman's injuries were treated, Lin Xihe personally escorted her home.

As we traveled along, the sky gradually darkened, and night was about to fall.

After settling the woman in, Lin Xihe was preparing to head to the Gu residence again.

Just then, a little girl of about seven or eight years old chased after them from inside the house and called out in a clear voice, "Sister!"

Lin Xihe stopped and turned around at the sound, a gentle smile on her face: "What's wrong, little girl?"

Lin Xihe felt quite apologetic about the carriage incident and specially asked Ling Shuang to give the woman who fell ten taels of silver, since even a sprain would hurt for several days and she would probably be unable to work for a while.

The little girl blinked her bright eyes and said, "My mother told me to thank my sister."

As she spoke, she took out an exquisite sachet from her hand and handed it to Lin Xihe.

"Sister, I made this myself. Thank you for taking my mother home. This sachet is filled with winter plum blossoms that I picked; it smells wonderful!"

Lin Xihe felt a warmth in her heart, reached out to take the sachet, gently patted the little girl's head, and said softly, "Thank you."

As soon as she boarded the carriage, Ling Shuang curiously took the sachet, opened it, and examined it closely.

Having some medical knowledge, she carefully examined the sachet and confirmed that it contained only dried wintersweet blossoms and nothing unusual. Only then did she feel relieved and return the sachet to Lin Xihe.
