Lin Xihe felt a piercing pain in her ankle and secretly groaned that her luck had really run out.
Back in Xinghua Village, I accidentally tripped and twisted my left ankle. I thought I could be more at ease back in Beijing, but who would have thought I would twist my right ankle now?
At this moment, Gu Qinghuai was staring at her intently, his gaze seemingly filled with resentment, which made Lin Xihe's heart burn with anger.
She couldn't help but glare back fiercely, feeling wronged—she had fallen while trying to save him, and he, instead of being grateful, was putting on such an expression.
Gu Qinghuai seemed to sense her dissatisfaction, composed himself slightly, and ordered the guards beside him, "All of you, get out. Without my permission, Miss Lin is not allowed to step out of this courtyard. If anyone dares to neglect their duty, they will be beheaded."
The guards exchanged glances, a hint of doubt flashing in their eyes, but they dared not ask any further questions, and replied in unison, "Yes, General."
After saying this, Gu Qinghuai waved his hand, and they quickly withdrew.
After the guards withdrew, Gu Qinghuai turned to Lin Xihe and said slowly, "Doctor Qin, come and take a look at this sprain."
Lin Xihe was so angry about the order Gu Qinghuai had given to the guards that her chest heaved up and down. At this moment, she sat there stiffly, sulking, and let Doctor Qin come forward to examine her.
Doctor Qin stepped forward and, after a thorough examination, concluded that there was nothing seriously wrong; the patient only needed to rest for a while.
Afterwards, Doctor Qin withdrew, and the room fell into a deathly silence.
The two of them just stayed like that, not even letting anyone send them breakfast.
Before long, Lin Xihe felt agitated and restless, so she got up, returned to the small couch, and lay down, pretending to be fast asleep.
But as soon as I lay down, the absurd things that happened the night before involuntarily surfaced in my mind, and I was filled with mixed feelings.
In the end, Gu Qinghuai gave in first and gently coaxed Lin Xihe to get up and have her meal.
However, Gu Qinghuai neither allowed Lin Xihe to leave the hospital nor gave her any medicine. Lin Xihe was already angry, and now she was even more resistant. No matter how he tried to persuade her, she resolutely refused to take the medicine.
When evening came and the servants brought dinner, removing the untouched lunch, Gu Qinghuai could no longer contain his anxiety.
He strode to the small couch, bent down and gently picked up Lin Xihe, his tone leaving no room for doubt: "Get up, let's have our meal."
"I won't eat your food," Lin Xihe said defiantly.
Gu Qinghuai seemed not to hear her and carried her straight to the table. As soon as he put her down, Lin Xihe tried to get up, but Gu Qinghuai quickly pressed her back down.
“If you don’t eat, then I’ll feed you myself.” Gu Qinghuai narrowed his eyes slightly, his voice low but with a hint of stubbornness.
Lin Xihe was held firmly by him and couldn't move. She was both angry and anxious, so she simply ignored him.
Seeing this, Gu Qinghuai immediately scooped up a spoonful of porridge and slowly brought it to Lin Xihe's lips.
"Eat like this, or should I feed you mouth-to-mouth?" Gu Qinghuai raised an eyebrow, his eyes seeming to say that he really could do it.
Lin Xihe glanced at him, knowing he was a man of his word, and felt both angry and helpless. She had no choice but to open her mouth and swallow the porridge.
After Lin Xihe had barely managed to eat a few bites, Gu Qinghuai finally spoke, breaking the silence in the room.
"Whether you admit it today or not, what happened yesterday has already happened and cannot be changed."
His voice was deep and mellow, but his gaze was fixed on Lin Xihe's face: "Xihe, I know in my heart that you have feelings for me. However, I, and indeed any man in this world, could never tolerate his woman harboring feelings for someone else. You should sort out those feelings that shouldn't exist as soon as possible."
Lin Xihe opened her mouth, wanting to refute, but found that her throat felt like it was choked by something, and she couldn't utter a single word.
Yes, if she said that she only had Ji Zhuo in her heart, then how would she explain her taking the initiative to throw herself into his arms yesterday?
But if she were to say she disliked Gu Qinghuai, she would honestly admit that she had never felt that way before.
Besides inheriting the pure infatuation with Gu Qinghuai from the original owner's memories, there was also the heartache and guilt that arose as they spent more time together, as well as a vague and subtle emotion that she herself was unwilling to face.
These are indeed the problems she must face.
However, she needs time to calm down and think things through carefully.
And so, the two spent another ten days or so in this seemingly calm but actually cold war atmosphere.
Despite Gu Qinghuai's daily efforts to coax her patiently, Lin Xihe's attitude remained largely unchanged, as if she were encased in a layer of solid ice, impossible to melt.
All was quiet; it was another peaceful night.
Lin Xihe felt as if she had fallen into an endless abyss of darkness, and a chill ran through her to the bone.
Suddenly, a blurry figure appeared in front of her without warning. Startled, she instinctively took several steps back.
In the darkness, a face hidden in shadows and obscure slowly emerged; it was none other than the original owner's father—Lin Bin.
At this moment, his eyes were wide with anger as he stared intently at Lin Xihe, his gaze seeming to want to devour her alive. Then, a question rang out like thunder in the silence: "Xihe, you know that your father is innocent, why did you stand idly by and not help your father?"
Completely different from the loving and gentle father in the original owner's memory, Lin Bin exuded a chilling aura of ferocity.
Lin Xihe's legs went weak with fright, and she unconsciously backed away, only to have her back suddenly bump into something hard. She turned around in horror and saw that it was the original owner's brother, Lin Zhihao.
His face was equally grim, his lips tightly pressed together, and the anger in his eyes seemed capable of igniting the darkness. He shouted at Lin Xihe, "Why haven't you come to find your brother after so long!"
