Ji Zhuo took in the interaction between Lin Xihe and Ling Shuang, and seeing Lin Xihe's obstruction of him, he naturally sensed something amiss.
Seeing that Lin Xihe had not broken any bones, he reached out without saying a word, intending to carry the collapsed Lin Xihe to the bed.
Ling Shuang was extremely anxious.
Having followed Ji Zhuo in the past, she had witnessed his behavior and style on several occasions.
Although this former master wasn't the kind of bloodthirsty, murderous person who would readily take lives, his inherent pride and unyielding nature meant he wouldn't tolerate the slightest injustice. Once he learned of betrayal, he would absolutely not remain silent and would certainly seek revenge. In the current situation, if he were to learn the truth, he would likely not let his current master, Lin Xihe, off easily.
Moreover, she was even more worried that Lin Xihe's fall was quite serious and that she needed to be carefully cared for.
After much hesitation, Ling Shuang still mustered her courage and tentatively said, "Lord Ji, perhaps... I should do it."
"roll!"
Ji Zhuo's voice was cold and sharp, as if it were filled with ice shards.
The servant he had personally trained now dared to conceal his questions. If he hadn't already handed her over to Lin Xihe, he would never have spared her life so easily.
Ling Shuang was so frightened that she dared not utter another sound.
Lin Xihe understood that Ling Shuang was genuinely worried about her, but the doctor would be arriving soon, and there was no way to hide it from her.
"Ling Shuang, go down first and stay outside. Don't come in," Lin Xihe instructed.
Although Ling Shuang was unwilling, she could only lower her head and agree: "Yes, Miss."
With a tense expression, Ji Zhuo carefully picked up Lin Xihe and placed her on the bed.
Lin Xihe clenched her teeth in pain, the intense abdominal pain causing her to involuntarily curl up into a ball.
Seeing this, Ji Zhuo hurriedly pulled the brocade quilt over her, murmuring, "What am I going to do with you?"
Lin Xihe endured the pain and slightly raised her head, only to meet Ji Zhuo's gaze. Lin Xihe hurriedly looked away.
More than ten days had passed since she left Gu Qinghuai's residence before the Lunar New Year, following that absurd night.
I considered taking medication at the time, but so much time had passed that even if I had taken it then, it wouldn't have helped.
She had also wondered to herself how it was possible that she would become pregnant overnight, given that her periods were already irregular.
Last month, her period was late, and she was filled with anxiety. She even disguised herself and went out to see a doctor to have her pulse checked. The doctor couldn't find anything wrong, which put her at ease. But now, is it really because it was still early in the pregnancy that it was hard to detect?
Lin Xihe silently prayed in her heart that she was not actually pregnant.
While she was at the Gu residence, she had already made her choice in her heart: that person was Ji Zhuo.
She knew that, given Ji Zhuo's rigid and intolerant nature, he would likely never forgive her for her actions.
Lin Xihe also felt that even if Ji Zhuo eventually separated from her, it was her own fault and she had no one else to blame.
If Ji Zhuo could forgive her, she would be overjoyed and long to walk hand in hand with him into the future.
However, if she were to become pregnant unexpectedly, she truly wouldn't know how to deal with this difficult situation, feeling completely lost and directionless.
As the two waited anxiously, Lin Xihe's abdominal pain showed no signs of abating.
Soon, Lang Feng hurriedly brought the doctor over.
Upon seeing this, Ji Zhuo quickly stepped aside to make room for the doctor to come forward and take his pulse.
The doctor held the pulse pillow firmly, about to begin the examination, but Lin Xihe gripped the blanket tightly with both hands, refusing to extend her wrists and shrinking deeper into the blanket.
"Young lady, you must extend your hand. Only by feeling your pulse can I diagnose your illness..." the doctor said with a troubled expression, trying to persuade her patiently.
Upon hearing this, Lin Xihe stubbornly remained hidden under the covers, her body trembling even more violently, her heart filled with panic.
Seeing Lin Xihe like this, Ji Zhuo felt as if his heart was being pricked by a thousand needles, but he was helpless and could only sit back down on the edge of the bed.
He brushed aside Lin Xihe's fingers that were tightly gripping the blanket, took out her arm, and found it damp and cold to the touch. At this moment, Lin Xihe's palms were already full of cold sweat, and that cold sweat seemed to have soaked into Ji Zhuo's heart as well.
"Can you hide from it?" Ji Zhuo murmured softly, his voice tinged with bitterness.
Then, he looked up at the doctor and said in a deep voice, "Diagnosis."
The doctor did as instructed, gently placing three fingers on Lin Xihe's wrist. While carefully feeling her pulse, he asked with concern, "Miss, is your abdominal pain persistent?"
Lin Xihe glanced up briefly at Ji Zhuo's cold expression, then quickly lowered her eyes again, replying in an almost inaudible voice, "Yes..."
"Did you fall and get hurt?" the doctor asked.
"Yeah, I fell down," Lin Xihe mumbled in response.
For a moment, the room was so quiet that only Lin Xihe's slightly rapid breathing could be heard.
After a moment, the doctor slowly removed his hand and replied to Ji Zhuo with a solemn expression, "This young lady is pregnant, but less than two months along. Today's fall has disturbed the fetus, which is why she is experiencing persistent abdominal pain."
The doctor's words were like a bolt from the blue, striking Lin Xihe directly and instantly extinguishing the last glimmer of hope in her heart.
Ji Zhuo felt as if his heart had been struck by a heavy hammer, the pain almost suffocating him. All the love and tenderness in his heart had turned into excruciating pain.
"Pregnant?"
"What did you say? Say it again!" Ji Zhuo's voice was low and hoarse, as if squeezed out from between his teeth, each word filled with deep resentment.
