Chapter 40
The afternoon sunlight filtered softly through the curtains into the bathroom.
The air was filled with the sweet scent of milk and soap.
Sakura rolled up her sleeves and stood beside the baby bathtub.
Several cute little yellow ducks were floating in the warm water.
She cradled Huiyi's little head in one hand and gently splashed water on her son with the other.
"Come on, Huiyi, let's take a nice bath today!"
The baby seemed to understand and giggled.
Waving its short little hands, its little feet splashed and kicked in the water.
Sakura smiled, her eyes crinkling: "Oh dear, you little rascal, still kicking the water."
She gently wiped the bubbles off her little face with a towel.
She coaxed softly, "Is the water temperature just right? Mommy tested it first, you know."
Hui blinked her big, round eyes and responded with a soft "ee-ee."
Those bright, watery eyes were just like her father, Minamino Shuichi—
Clever and agile, yet possessing an innate gentleness.
"You look just like your father," Sakura couldn't help but chuckle softly.
"He can't even stay still while taking a bath."
After taking a bath, Sakura wrapped Kouichi in a soft towel.
Carry it to the crib.
The maid had already prepared clean baby clothes:
A white panda bodysuit with black stripes, and a small ear hat hanging to the side.
"Wear this today, Panda Xiaohui."
She smiled as she spread out the clothes and carefully slipped Huiyi's little hands and feet inside.
Huiyi, however, refused to cooperate, waving his little hands haphazardly and kicking his little feet.
"Huh? You don't want to wear it?" Sakura chuckled.
"At least wear gloves, otherwise they'll scratch your face again!"
She picked up the small white gloves.
Huiyi immediately raised his hand, as if in protest.
"Still protesting?"
Sakura laughed so hard she bent over, and gently reached out to take his finger.
"Come on, let Mom catch you!"
The little one twisted his little hand after it was held.
But in the end, her mother gently put the gloves on her.
"Alright~" She clapped his hand with satisfaction.
Isn't it cute?
Hui pouted, tilted his head, and blinked his eyes.
Sakura's heart softened when she saw him like this.
She lowered her head and gently kissed his rosy cheek.
"So cute, my little Huiyi."
Huiyi blinked as he was kissed.
Her little hands waved, and the next second she started humming.
The little head rubbed against Sakura's chest.
"Huh? What's wrong?" Sakura paused for a moment, then chuckled.
"You're looking for Grandma to drink, aren't you?"
Hui's small mouth opened and closed, as if confirming her guess.
"Oh dear, you little glutton."
She smiled and sat down in the rocking chair, gently taking her son into her arms.
"Okay, Mom knows. You're hungry, aren't you?"
She gently untied her bathrobe and pulled Xiaohui close to her.
The sunlight shone brightly on the mother and child.
Warm, quiet, and gentle.
Huiyi's little mouth emitted a satisfied "mmm" sound.
The faint sucking sound and Sakura's laughter intertwined to create the gentlest melody.
"Drink slowly."
She stroked his back and murmured softly.
"Huiyi, grow up quickly so that you can protect your mother like your father does in the future."
Huiyi seemed to understand, blinking his eyes.
He flashed a toothless little smile.
The moment Minamino Shuichi pushed open the door,
This is what I saw—
Sunlight falls on the window.
The baby in his wife's arms was quietly drinking milk.
She smiled with her eyes lowered, her long golden hair cascading over her shoulders.
The scene was as serene as a dream.
He stood at the door for a long time before murmuring softly:
"...It's really beautiful."
The setting sun shone through the sheer curtains, casting its light on the marble floor of the living room in the Minamino residence.
The light was soft and warm, and a faint floral fragrance filled the air.
Sakura sat on the sofa, her long hair casually draped over her shoulders, holding the just-woke-up Kiichi in her arms.
Hui's clear eyes blinked watery, her little hands flailing about in the air.
It was obvious that it wanted its mother to hold it a little longer.
"Our little Huiyi is awake again?"
Sakura gently poked the tip of his nose.
"Who was whispering in bed just now?"
Huiyi made a "ee-ya" sound and pouted her little mouth as if in protest.
Sakura was amused and gently patted her son's back to comfort him.
Just then, Minamino Shuichi walked into the living room.
He had just returned from work, still wearing his shirt with the cuffs loosely rolled up.
Upon seeing this, his expression softened instantly.
"Dad is back."
Sakura looked up, a faint smile on her face.
Minamino Hideichi walked over and sat down next to her.
His hand naturally rested on Sakura's shoulder.
He lowered his head and placed a kiss on her forehead—
It was a gesture of returning home, and also a tacit and gentle greeting.
"Were you and your son well-behaved today?"
“Kouichi is such a clingy little thing,” Sakura replied with a smile.
"He wouldn't sleep just now; he needed me to hold him to calm down."
Hideichi Minamino gently took his son.
"Come here, Huiyi, let Daddy give you a hug too."
The little one had just been transferred to his father's arms.
She immediately reached out her little hand and grabbed Shuichi's shirt.
It was making a sticky "hmm" sound from its mouth.
It's as if she's expressing her welcome to her father.
"Oh?" Minamino Hideichi raised an eyebrow, his smile deepening.
"It seems our young master already knows who his father is."
Huiyi giggled, his little feet kicking wildly in the air.
Sakura watched from the side, her heart almost melting at the sight.
"Oh dear, look at him, he's actually smiling."
Sakura couldn't help but burst out laughing.
"Still acting cute, just like you."
"Like me?" Minamino Hideichi chuckled softly.
While holding her son tightly in her arms, she leaned closer to Sakura.
"Then he should kiss his mother just like I do."
He had barely finished speaking when he gently leaned closer.
He placed a gentle kiss on Sakura's lips.
Sakura's cheeks flushed red.
“You—Shuichi, Huiyi is still in your arms.”
"So what?"
He smiled and pressed his forehead against hers, his voice so gentle it was almost sweet.
"We are the two people he loves most."
As expected, Huiyi made a "ee-yah" sound between the two of them.
The little hands were still outstretched, clapping haphazardly, as if in agreement.
"Oh my, so cute."
Sakura couldn't help but laugh out loud, and gently patted Kouichi's head.
"Daddy's just teasing you, isn't he, little guy?"
Huiyi giggled again and snuggled tightly into his mother's arms.
She didn't forget to look back at her father, her eyes crinkling.
"It seems he's clinging to you the most right now," Minamino Shuichi sighed, feigning jealousy.
Even the laughter is all yours to enjoy.
“Because I spend every day with him,” Sakura said matter-of-factly.
"That won't do. Dad needs special privileges too."
As he spoke, Minamino Shuichi leaned down and gently kissed Kouichi's forehead.
"From now on, you have to share half of your laughter with me."
Huiyi seemed to understand, and reached out his little hand to touch his father's face.
Then she laughed out loud, "Eeya—".
"Wow, so clever!" Sakura smiled, her eyes crinkling.
“Shuichi, look, he really understood.”
"Of course."
Shuichi looked at his wife with deep affection, his voice as gentle as the night breeze.
"Because he is your child, and even his intelligence is like yours."
Sakura blushed and gently patted him.
"You have such a sweet tongue."
"Only for you and Huiyitian."
She couldn't help but laugh.
She reached out between her husband and son, gently embracing them both.
Sunlight streamed in through the window, illuminating the smiling faces of the family of three.
At this moment, the world seemed to stand still—
Happiness lies in the interplay of light and shadow, quiet yet radiant.
