Chapter 27

Chapter 27

Feng Xiaosai came to the stable and asked the groom to harness the horse for him.

The servants around the young master are always more respected than ordinary servants, not to mention that his father is the second steward of the mansion, and the lower-ranking servants usually bow and nod when they meet him.

The slave looked up at the sky and said to Feng Xiaochong in a flattering tone, "Master Feng, the weather is a bit weird today, sometimes cloudy and sometimes sunny. It would be difficult for you to ride a horse and it would rain. Otherwise, I would harness the carriage for you."

Feng Xiaosai looked at him with a half-smile: "Don't worry, I'm not worthy of being called Master. Don't cause any trouble. Hire a carriage for me. Who dares to ride without the master's permission?"

The slave thought he was afraid of the Second Young Master finding out, so he tried to flatter him, saying, "What's the big deal? You're out here doing errands for the Second Young Master, so you can help relieve his worries. It wouldn't be nice to have you get soaked before you even finish your errand."

Feng Xiaosai patted him on the shoulder and said, "The Second Young Master just established his authority last night, and today I'm being rude and disobedient. Aren't I just going to make some stir-fried bamboo shoots and meat for myself? Don't hurt me. If you really feel bad for me getting wet in the rain, prepare another raincoat and bamboo hat for me."

Seeing that he didn't appreciate it, the groom didn't say anything more and took the saddle and prepared the horse for him.

Feng Xiaosai arrived at Shengweixuan and told the waiter to go and call the boss. Yunkai frequented this place frequently, so the waiter immediately ran to the cashier's office to call the boss.

When the boss heard that someone was coming from the chieftain's mansion, he didn't dare to delay for a moment. He left the account book he was reading and went to the lobby to see Feng Xiaosai.

Arriving in the lobby, he bowed to Feng Xiaosai, who was sipping tea, and said, "It's Brother Feng!" After greeting him, he said to the waiter, "Why is there only tea? Go to the kitchen and get Brother Feng a plate of snacks."

Feng Xiaosai reached out to stop the waiter, bowed to the boss and said, "Boss Du, you are too polite. Our second young master would like to borrow a cook from you to serve in the mansion for a while. I hope you can help."

Borrowing someone? Boss Du was a little surprised when he heard this. The food in Tusi Mansion was usually sour and spicy, and occasionally they would ask Shengweixuan to send a few tables in to change the taste, but this was the first time they had borrowed a chef.

He smiled and said, "That's no problem. I'll let my second apprentice go back with you. His cooking skills are impeccable and he will definitely be able to serve the master of the mansion well."

Feng Xiaosai remembered Yun Kai's instructions and asked, "Can your second disciple make egg cakes?"

The young master and young lady of the Tusi Mansion wanted to eat egg cake? He shook his head and said, "We don't grow much wheat here, so we don't make it often. We only sell it to regular customers. Since the quantity is small, we haven't taught it to our apprentices. Only my wife and I know how to make it."

Feng Xiaosai nodded and said, "Alright then. I'll have to ask Madam to go to the mansion and take care of things for a while."

"This..." Boss Du was a little embarrassed. It wasn't like he was only going to be gone for a day or two. Although he had stopped cooking a long time ago, there were so many things to do at home and in the store that he couldn't handle it all by himself!

Seeing his hesitation, Feng Xiaosai felt a little unhappy. The Tusi Mansion invited you to come over, which was a favor to you. But you were still making excuses. You really don't know what's good for you.

He had wanted to use the Tusi Mansion as a threat, but then he remembered the Second Young Master's instructions to say the invitation was for Miss Lan. He suppressed his annoyance and said to Boss Du, "Mr. Lan's daughter is staying at the Tusi Mansion. She's been sick the past couple of days and wants some egg cake. Your family is the only one in Yunxiang who can make it, so I hope you'll bother coming."

"Miss Lan? Is she the daughter of Mr. Lan Yingde?"

"That's right. Mr. Lan entrusted her to the mansion before he left for a long trip. But Miss Lan couldn't get used to the food there... You see..."

I thought it would take a while, but when I heard that we were going to serve Miss Lan, Boss Du agreed very straightforwardly: "Okay, I'll let my wife clean up."

Feng Xiaosai... This Mr. Lan is better than the chieftain, right?

Yueming enjoyed a very satisfying dinner. She had an egg scrambled into the thick beef porridge, which was incredibly warming. Cucumbers tossed with vinegar and sesame oil were fragrant and appetizing. A small bowl of tofu and crucian carp soup also had dried chicken mushrooms and fresh bamboo shoots. She didn't want to eat the fish, so she ate up all the bamboo shoots and tofu.

After dinner, the maid brought her the egg cake she had been craving. Even though she had just finished her meal, she couldn't help but reach out and take one at the sight of its long-lost fragrance. Just as she was about to take a bite, Yun Kai lifted the curtain and came in. Seeing this, she asked, "Lan Yueming, have you taken your medicine?"

Yueming opened her mouth and shook her head. Yunkai walked over and threw the egg cake in her hand back onto the plate, scolding her, "Why are you eating egg cake when you haven't taken your medicine?" She turned around and asked the maid, "Where's the young lady's medicine?"

The maid bowed her head and replied, "It hasn't been cooked yet. The doctor said that this medicine should be taken in half an hour."

Feng Xiaosai followed Yun Kai, holding a few books. Hearing this, he said, "Why don't you hurry up and do it if you haven't finished yet? Does the young master have to worry about such a small matter?"

The maid hurriedly withdrew. Feng Xiaosai placed the book on the table and said to Yueming with a smile, "Second Young Master was afraid that the young lady would be bored, so he specially found a few books for you to entertain yourself."

Yueming finally couldn't bear to look away from the egg cake. She was curious about what books Han Yunkai had brought her. She reached out and flipped through the books, all in English. She could barely make out two: Charlotte Bronte's Pride and Prejudice and Alexandre Dumas's The Lady of the Camellias.

Yueming was dumbfounded. Her English level was not enough to read these books! She bit her lip and said, "Is there no Chinese version of these books that I can't understand?"

Yun Kai sat beside her, pulled out a book from the pile, flipped through it, and said to her with a raised eyebrow, "Yes!" He instructed Feng Xiaochong, "Go to my study and bring Miss Lan the 'Three Hundred Tang Poems' and the 'Thousand Character Classic'."

"Hey... Hey..." Yueming quickly stopped him: "I'm already so old, what else do I need to look at?"

Yun Kai propped his face up on the table with his elbows, and waved the book in his hand at her: "I've picked out the simple ones for you, and you still say you can't understand. What can I do?"

At this moment, Yueming felt that the Second Young Master, who had always been at odds with her, had returned. She pouted and said, "You've been to England before, so of course you think this is easy. I've only been learning English for a few years, and you're not just trying to entertain me; you're practically killing me."

After seeing the joke of Lan Yueming, the poor student, Yun Kai was in a good mood. He said, "If you don't know how to do it, just learn it! If you have your own entertainment, you won't wander around. Or do you want to go to Third Sister and get the Third Madam's cold stare?"

Thinking about the misfortune she suffered this time because she went to see the Third Young Lady and was scolded by the Third Madam, she felt that some things still needed to be clarified. She came to visit for no reason, but ended up eating at the expense of the Third Madam. This seemed very strange no matter how she looked at it.

She asked Yun Kaidao, "Why does the Third Madam hate me? Did I offend her unintentionally?"

Yunkai looked her up and down for a while, and found that she really didn't know, and hesitated whether to tell her.

Seeing Yunkai's hesitation, Yueming knew there must be something going on. She wanted to know more, so she begged, "Please tell me, considering how miserable I am! If you know the reason, I'll know whether he's avoiding the Third Madam or the Third Young Miss."

She wasn't stupid, she knew this matter was also related to the Third Young Miss. Yun Kai cleared his throat: "Cough... cough, a little thirsty."

Yueming immediately picked up the teapot and poured him a cup of tea. After pouring the tea, he did not put the teapot down, as if he would refill it as soon as he finished drinking it.

Yun Kai pretended to drink two sips, put down the cup and said to her: "It's not you that the Third Madam hates, it's your father. You just suffered from the disaster of the fish pond."

"My dad?" Yueming's eyes widened in disbelief. "How could such a thoughtful person like my dad offend the Third Madam? Impossible."

Yun Kai found Lan Yueming's expression really funny and continued to tease her with heavy breathing: "It's not that he offended the Third Madam. It's some of my father's decisions that made the Third Madam dislike him."

Why is this guy so slow in talking? He talks for a long time but still makes people confused. Yueming almost wants to point the spout of the kettle at his crown to make his brain even more waterlogged.

If she offended him again, there would be no one in the mansion she could talk to. She suppressed her anger and asked, "What's the decision?" Her words were calm, but the look she gave Yun Kai was a warning. If she continued to nag, she would not be polite.

Looking at the murderous look in Yueming's eyes and the teapot in his hand, Yunkai felt that he had been teased enough. The weather was too hot and it was uncomfortable to drink hot tea and take a bath.

He pulled his folding fan from the back of his collar and snapped it open. Yueming thought the sound was like the sound of a teahouse storyteller knocking on a wake-up stick when he got to the crucial moment.

Yun Kai waved his fan and calmly dropped a bombshell on her: "My father wants to marry my third sister to your father."
