Chapter 69

Chapter 69

Feng Xiaosai returned to report to Yun Kai. After listening, Yun Kai asked calmly, "She must be overjoyed that her father is back, right?"

Feng Xiaosai recalled that he had noticed Yueming's red eyes after entering the room. He hesitated for a moment and said, "It seemed that Miss Yueming had been crying before I entered the room."

Yun Kai scoffed lightly: "She cried for a long time because of joy. She has been back for several hours, and she still hasn't cried enough?"

The young master looked so angry that he didn't know how to respond and could only smile awkwardly.

Yunkai waved him off and walked to the window. It was nearly dusk, the dim light of the setting sun shone on the flowers in the corner. Usually around this time, Yueming would come here after dinner to play with Li Nu, the two chasing each other around the yard, making a riot of noise. But with her sudden departure, the sunset she was used to seeing took on a chilly air.

Yunkai was lost in thought, leaning against the window frame. Shouldn't she be happy about going home? Why was she crying again?

Did Lan Yingde scold her?

She's still so young, what's the point of not talking to her in a nice way? Why do you have to scold her? She's thin-skinned and cares about her reputation, so the more you scold her, the more rebellious she becomes. What's the point of touching her skin without touching her heart?

Yunkai was worried and melancholy about her, but Yueming was completely oblivious. Lan Yingde and Changsheng surrounded her and coaxed her for a while, and her anger, grievance, and injustice completely disappeared. During the meal, she picked up some food for Lan Yingde and said with concern, "Dad, eat more. My senior brother said that you've been eating dry food or making do with it all the way back. You haven't had a proper meal. You've become so thin."

Lan Yingde put a piece of braised pork into her bowl and said, "You eat too."

Changsheng looked at the father and daughter with resentment and took a mouthful of rice. Hadn't he and his master been eating the same food all this time? Hadn't he lost weight? Why was he only giving food to his master?

As if sensing her senior brother's resentment, Yueming took a chicken drumstick from the soup bowl and placed it in his bowl, smiling sweetly, "Senior brother has worked very hard taking care of Dad, and he needs to nourish himself. Today, both chicken drumsticks are for you to eat."

Changsheng felt relieved and returned the favor by picking up another chicken leg for Yueming: "You have one too."

The family had a happy dinner. Yueming took a bath and changed her clothes. She took a small stool and sat in the yard to enjoy the cool air while listening to Changsheng telling her about the interesting things he encountered on the road.

"A horsehair snake was biting his finger and wouldn't let go. We wanted to cut it with a knife, but the fellow who led the way said that horsehair snakes spray venom before dying, so we didn't dare move. Just when we were at our wit's end, the fellow said that a horsehair snake won't let go until it bites you, unless it hears a mule bray. So we went to beat the mule that was carrying the goods. That mule was also weird. It barked non-stop with its mouth wide open while we slept, and no matter how hard we whipped it that day, it didn't make a sound. We had no choice but to imitate the mule's bray one by one."

Imagine that grand scene. Yueming was laughing so hard that she was bent over, her half-dried raven hair draped over her shoulders. Perhaps the bath water was too hot; her face was still flushed even after she got out.

Lan Yingde was lying on a recliner on the hot spring stage, rocking it gently while smoking a cigar and listening to his two senior brothers and sisters chatting.

"Except for the master, everyone else in our group tried to learn it, but none of them could imitate it well enough. The one who got bitten must have been in great pain and got so angry that he started yelling, 'Is that the bray of a mule? That's the bray of a donkey. I'll do it myself.' Then he started to 'e-oh, e-oh...'"

Changsheng tilted his head back to imitate the man's behavior, and Yueming laughed so hard that she almost couldn't breathe. After a long while, she wiped the tears from her eyes while holding her stomach and asked, "Did the horsehair snake let go?"

"It loosened up. After hearing the call he imitated, he immediately let go and scurried off into the bushes and disappeared. We were puzzled. His calls were no different from ours, so how could he make the snake loosen up?"

Yueming looked at him mischievously: "I didn't hear clearly just now, why don't you call out a few more times so I can distinguish them."

Changsheng smiled and patted her head: "Want to listen? Wait until you get bit by a horsehair snake and I'll teach you."

Yueming pretended to bite his hand, but he stretched out his long fingers and pinched Yueming's lips into a duck's mouth. The two brothers and sisters started fighting.

Lan Yingde watched with a smile for a while, and before Yueming could get angry, he stopped her: "Stop it. We have to go to the Tusi Mansion tomorrow. Go to bed early."

Yueming returned to her room and climbed onto her bed, cradling her usual pillow in her arms. Yunkai had Feng Xiaosai bring the pillow, pretending it was clothes or other supplies, but actually worried she wouldn't be able to sleep without it. Yueming had been so busy and excited that she'd dragged Lan Yingde home that she'd forgotten about her bed.

I turned over to face the window, looked at the moon outside the window frame and sighed softly. How should I tell my father?

When I first came here, I kept saying I wanted to go back to Kunming, but now I suddenly change my mind. I feel embarrassed just thinking about it.

During dinner, her father mentioned that her cousin and Uncle Charles were doing well in Siam and that they would let her go to England from there. Hearing this, she was even more afraid to speak. Her father had planned everything for her, and if she said she didn't want to go and wanted to stay in Yunxiang, he would definitely be disappointed.

But she really couldn't bear to leave Han Yunkai. She liked Han Yunkai, how could she not like him?

I used to find him annoying, but the more I get to know him, the more I see his strengths. A powerful and handsome young master from a prominent Tusi mansion, he's clearly the perfect candidate for bad behavior, yet he doesn't keep mistresses or actresses. His brother is getting married soon, yet he's still having an affair with that woman, Chang Zhangha!

This comparison makes his qualities particularly valuable.

And he was so good to her! Besides her father and her senior brother, Han Yunkai treated her the best. He gave in to her in everything and thought of her in everything! Although he did some annoying things occasionally, his merits outweighed his faults and it was not a big deal!

Alas! She sighed again in annoyance. Daddy's going to be tough! He'd always said it wasn't good for a girl to get married and have children too early. Family constraints were one thing, but more importantly, marrying and having children too early was dangerous. He said he'd let her consider dating and finding a husband at least until she was eighteen or nineteen.

After tossing and turning for a long time without coming to a conclusion, she got furious and pounded the pillow in her arms, cursing Yun Kai for being so lustful, asking why he couldn't wait until she was older before teasing her?

She closed her eyes angrily and went to sleep, deciding to ignore everything and let Han Yunkai talk to his father himself.

The next day, the Tusi Mansion sent a carriage to pick up Lan Yingde and his family. Seeing the clearly over-the-top carriage and the smiling Feng Er Butler outside the gate, Lan Yingde felt strange. Tusi Han had always been polite to him, but not so polite as to send a carriage today, as if he was worried he wouldn't make it.

Yueming changed her clothes and headed out of her room. As she came down the stairs, Lan Yingde saw her slowly approaching in a green tube skirt, and his expression was momentarily lost in thought. Yueming looked at her father, who was staring at her blankly without saying a word. She greeted the second housekeeper, then opened her arms and spun around briskly, asking, "Dad, does it look good?"

Lan Yingde collected his thoughts, calmed himself down, and said with a smile, "It looks good. When did you make this dress? It's really beautiful."

Yueming held up her skirt and said, "I made it for my birthday. My aunt gave me a lot of material when I went to Lishengmeng, so I made a few more when I came back."

Lan Yingde's attention was drawn to the silver belt around her waist. The material was of high quality, and the carvings were intricate. It was obvious that it had cost a fortune. He asked, "Did you buy this belt yourself?"

Yueming looked a little uncomfortable, but still told the truth: "It's a birthday present from Han Yunkai."

Lan Yingde was a little unhappy when she found out it was the second young master of the Han family who had given her the belt. For Dai men and women, giving a silver belt as a token of love was a token of affection. A little girl like her didn't understand this, but how could the second young master, a grown man like Han, understand it? Suddenly, his heart skipped a beat. Could the second young master have fallen for Yueming?

Seeing Yueming running to show off her skirt to Changsheng again, Changsheng deliberately said that she looked like a big green bean worm in it, and Yueming kicked him by lifting her skirt. His heart was relieved again. She was still a child who had not grown up, like a living monkey. A normal man could not have any feelings for her.

Arriving at the Tusi Mansion, Master Han couldn't wait to drag Lan Yingde to the warehouse to check out the goods. Li Yang and Changsheng also followed. Yue Ming didn't see the clouds clear, so he quietly asked Mrs. Yin: "Madam, why don't you see the second young master?"

Yin Tai was waiting for her to ask, and covered her lips with a handkerchief and said jokingly with a smile: "He's in a bad mood, why don't you go and comfort him."

Yueming's face flushed at Yin Tai's laughter. She tried her best to maintain a serious expression and said, "Why do you want me to comfort them? I don't know why they're so angry."

Yin Tai looked at her with a smile: "Okay, okay, stop pretending, go and take a look, you just left like that yesterday, and he has a stern face the whole time, as if someone owes him money!"

She had wanted to go, but Yueming was so angry when she heard him, that she was a bit hesitant. But then she thought about it and realized that even when he was angry, he still thought about sending her a pillow. The clothes she was wearing today were also sent by Feng Xiaosai. If she really didn't go to see him, wouldn't he be so angry that he would die?

She stood up and said pretentiously, "Then I'll go see how Yehu and the others have packed my luggage, and then go talk to him."

Yin Tai smiled knowingly and didn't expose her. After a while, Tong Lin came over and whispered in her ear, "He went to the young master's yard." The master and servant laughed together.

Yun Kai knew Yue Ming had come to the mansion, but he was angry and deliberately avoided seeing her. He wanted to see if she had any conscience. Would she really abandon him now that her father had returned and had someone to back her up?

From the courtyard came the voices of a maid greeting Yueming, who sat motionless in an armchair, legs crossed, reading a book. Seeing him like this, Yueming smiled and said, "Oh, you're working hard! You're really motivated."

Yun Kaitou didn't even raise his head, just turned a page of the book and ignored her.

She walked up to Yunkai, carefully examined the cover for a moment, and then said, "Othello? You didn't even hold the book upside down. You're actually reading!"

This time, Yun Kai turned away and didn't even let her see the cover.

Yueming...why are you so angry?

Well, if he really intended to ignore her, there was nothing she could do! She let out a long, fake sigh and muttered to herself, "It seems like I'm putting my warm face in someone's cold butt. If he doesn't like me, then I'm leaving."

After saying that, he made a gesture to leave. Just as he turned around, he could hear Yun Kai's extremely aggrieved voice behind him: "I feel like you don't care about me at all."

Yueming turned around and put his hands on his hips: "You think I don't care about you? I thought you were just looking for trouble!"

Yun Kai closed the book, lowered his head, and said dejectedly, "You left just like that yesterday. I couldn't even call you back."

He lowered his eyes, his long eyelashes casting a shadow on his lower eyelids. His forlorn expression made Yueming feel distressed. She quickly walked over, pulled out a large piece of chocolate from her tasseled pouch, and held it in front of him. "I was so happy to see Daddy back yesterday that I didn't pay any attention to you. I didn't mean to. Don't be angry! Look, Daddy and my senior brought me some chocolate. I was so greedy last night that I was drooling over the aroma that I couldn't bear to eat it. I thought I'd bring it to you today."

Just saying "I don't care" and you want to smooth things over? Impossible! Yun Kai turned his head away and snorted: "What's the big deal about a few pieces of chocolate? It's like everyone has eaten it before."

Yueming was feeling sorry for him at the moment and was very patient with him. She held his face, turned his head around, looked him in the eyes and said, "I guarantee you've never tasted chocolate like this."

She cupped his face with the chocolate still in her hand, the hard shell of the wrapper making his face hurt. But the chocolate tasted wonderful, and he could smell its rich fragrance even through the packaging. Yun Kai didn't know if it was because Yue Ming was being particularly patient with him today, or if the smell of chocolate really did make people happy, but he felt that he was no longer so angry.

He looked at Yueming quietly, watching her peel off the chocolate's outer shell and wrapping paper, and then peel off the tin foil wrapped around the chocolate. The aroma of chocolate in the air became stronger and stronger.

Suddenly, he felt something heavy on his legs. It was Yueming sitting on his thighs. He stared with wide eyes as he watched Yueming bite off a piece of chocolate, holding it between his lips and slowly approaching him. When the chocolate touched his lips, he winked at him, as if to encourage him: "Eat it!"

Yunkai was only surprised for a second before she unceremoniously took the chocolate between her lips. Since Yehu and Aiye weren't around, she had no one to help her with her makeup, so she only wore lipstick. Now that her lipstick had been smudged, Yunkai pressed hard against her lips, his tongue chasing the chocolate in her mouth.

Yueming had been the one who had started it, but she gradually began to lose control of Yunkai's passion. She felt as if he was sucking all the air out of her lungs. She couldn't speak, and could only clutch his collar tightly at the back of his neck with her fingers.

When the two of them separated, breathless, they couldn't help but burst out laughing at the sight of each other's faces. Yueming took out a handkerchief to help Yunkai wipe the chocolate off his mouth and asked with a smile, "Is it delicious?"

Yunkai also wiped the stains on Yueming's lips with his thumb, his eyes full of spring, "It's delicious. I'll eat it like this next time."
