Chapter 92

Chapter 92

The women were chatting and laughing happily. Yun Kai came over midway out of concern and warned Huan Yan, "Sister, you can joke around, but don't take her out for drinks!"

As soon as he turned around, a group of noble ladies covered their mouths and joked: "Second sister-in-law, your brother is really a worrying life."

Huanyan half-laughed, half-sighed as he said to Yueming, "My tyrant has fallen into your hands. He's taken care of everything for you, from food and clothing to housing and transportation. As soon as you arrived at your uncle's house, he wrote to me asking me to find you a reliable maid. I've never seen a man in that family so nosy in my life."

Yueming didn't know what expression to make when everyone teased her about this matter. She smiled shyly and said, "He's not nosy at all. He's just impatient with my hesitation."

Huanyan glanced at her and scolded her with a smile, "You should have some conscience! Look at other men who are patient enough to take care of their wives."

Yueming sighed, half-heartedly, "Big sister, you've never seen him bully me. This morning, I was worried he wasn't full so I thought I'd grab some on the way over, but he just laughed at me for being starving. He's truly ungrateful."

Huan Yan looked at her mischievously: "How can you blame him for thinking that? You've always had a restless mouth since you were a child. You even dared to take a bite of a green walnut."

"Oh!" Yueming complained, "I was so young back then, why do you always make fun of this?" She then covered her mouth with her hands and laughed awkwardly, "But I was definitely greedy when I was little. I went to the theater with my dad, and Liu Bei shouted 'hmm-teng' before he came on stage. I misheard it as wontons, and watched anxiously to see when they would be served. The show was over, but they still didn't show up. I angrily asked my dad, 'Didn't you say there were wontons? Why haven't you brought them out after the performance?'"

A group of people burst into laughter.

Huanyan laughed so hard that she wiped her tears and breathlessly said, "You're amazing! You're eagerly looking forward to a bowl of wontons during a scene. Just wait, the shrimp wontons at Yahua Liyaoji are very famous. I'll have the servants go buy them for you right away. I'll make sure you have enough to eat today."

After a brief exchange of pleasantries, everyone in each room went back to their own business. Only Huanyan and Yueming remained in the second-floor living room. Seeing everyone else leave, Huanyan breathed a long sigh of relief, as if to expel all the frustration within.

Looking at Yueming who was silent beside her, she smiled and said, "It's quite boring, isn't it?"

Yueming smiled faintly and said, "Isn't this how ladies socialize? It's nice to chat and laugh together so often. The ladies can express things that men are reluctant to say over a few rounds of mahjong and a few cups of tea."

Huanyan took a cigarette from the silver cigarette case on the coffee table and lit it. After blowing out a puff of smoke, he asked Yueming, "Would you like one?"

Yueming glanced at the door and said in a sneaky tone, "Sister, if you promise not to tell Yunkai, I'll have one."

Huan Yan laughed: "Go ahead and beat him if you want! Why are you so scared of him like a mouse seeing a cat? Even the wives at home are more scared than he is."

Yueming also lit a cigarette and puffed happily.

Huanyan sighed, "I remember being a girl in Yunxiang's house. I was so free and could do whatever I wanted. Siamese women have more rules than Yunxiang."

Yueming smiled and agreed, "The eldest young lady and I are both blessed. Our wife is kind and generous, and doesn't like to argue."

"That's right. It wasn't until I got married that I understood the truth: marrying isn't just marrying a man, it's marrying a whole family. So many eyes are staring at you, just waiting to see when you make a mistake so they can use it as a pretext for your meal." Huan Yan sneered, "But even the most thoughtful people have those gossipy people who will plot against them. Madam is too kind, that's why she lets those clueless people live in peace. Whenever there's any disaster for the women in the mansion, those gossipers say we can't afford to keep the women happy, and they all say, overtly or covertly, that Madam is intolerant. If Madam was really intolerant, how could Third Madam still be able to stir up trouble in the mansion?"

She had heard rumors about Master Han's ill-fated wives while living in the Tusi Mansion. The second and sixth wives died young due to illness, and the seventh wife died during childbirth due to complications. The fourth and fifth wives had lived in the mansion for years but failed to bear a son or daughter for the master. Unable to compete for favors with the third wife, they became disheartened and asked Master Yintai to enter the official Buddhist temple to practice asceticism.

Yueming wouldn't dare endorse Yin Tai for anything. But in front of Huanyan, she could only say indifferently, "The innocent are innocent. Who doesn't talk behind people's backs? But they're just talking to satisfy their own desires. Madam is a kindhearted person and never pays attention to those little brats. Besides, as long as Big Brother and Yun Kai succeed, Madam's position will be as stable as Mount Tai."

After eating the wontons that Huanyan had the servants buy for her, Yunkai led her to leave. Huanyan walked them to the gate and reluctantly said, "My second brother has an official meeting and can't accompany you. If you feel bored, come to the mansion to play. I will buy you wontons."

Yueming agreed with a smile.

Yunkai drove away in the Chevrolet he had left at the Prince's Mansion. Yueming saw that the road didn't look like the one leading back to the mansion and asked curiously, "Aren't we going home?"

Yun tilted his head and smiled: "I'll take you for a walk."

Yueming immediately begged, "Then please take me out to eat something! I'm wearing a cheongsam today and I'm afraid if I eat too much my belly will bulge out and look ugly. I didn't dare to eat too much wonton just now."

Yun Kai didn't know whether to laugh or cry: "Why are you so embarrassed in front of your sister? Just eat if you want to."

Yueming leaned against the car window and looked at the people outside. "It's not just my elder sister and I eating. There are also her sisters-in-law. You don't understand. If I eat like a starving ghost, they will laugh at my elder sister."

He didn't want to understand the swordplay between women, so he reached out and rubbed her head and said, "What do you want to eat?"

Yueming tilted his head and thought for a moment before saying, "I'm not really hungry, I'm just craving something. Let's go get some ice cream, shall we?"

Yunkai drove her to a cafe and ordered her an ice cream and a piece of garlic bread.

Yueming looked at the golden and crispy bread with disdain: "I don't like this kind of bread. Give me a piece of butter or cheese instead."

"Cheese?" Yun Kai snorted coldly: "I think you want to piss me off to death. Eating so much sweet food, do you want to lose your teeth?"

It was just a piece of cake, why did she make it sound like her teeth were collapsing like a glacier after eating it? She brushed her teeth every day, morning and night, without missing a beat.

A head-on confrontation would definitely ruin the atmosphere when the two of them were alone together.

The lace tablecloth was filled with delicate little plates, the crystal vase held orchids that looked beautiful, and the violin solo playing on the gramophone was quite sentimental. This wasn't the right environment for a quarrel.

Yueming rolled her eyes and pouted, "This bread will give you bad breath." She leaned close to him and exhaled sweetly, "What if I want to kiss you later?"

This little vixen!

Yun Kai asked the waiter to bring her a cheesecake with an expressionless face.

Happy as she drank her afternoon tea, Yueming felt she was quite clever. She had managed to make a loud argument disappear into thin air by acting like a spoiled child.

Seeing Yueming enjoying her meal, Yunkai was also happy. He felt embarrassed that she could be so easily satisfied by just a piece of cake. Since a little food could satisfy Yueming, he decided to keep trying and asked excitedly, "What do you want to eat tomorrow?"

Yueming didn't feel touched by this question, she just felt that he was extremely naive. This was her first time in Siam, and she didn't even know what the staple food of the Siamese people was. How could she know what he wanted to eat when he asked her?

She tilted her head and thought for a moment, then decided to give him a hard time: "I want to eat Yiliang roast duck with plum sauce."

Forget roast duck. Sour plum sauce is something Bangkok definitely doesn't have. Yunkai cautiously suggested, "Why don't you think about it again? Why are you eating Yunnan cuisine in Siam?"

"Is there no roast duck here?" Yueming asked back with a disappointed look on his face.

“Even if there is, it won’t be as delicious as the one in Yiliang.”

Yueming ordered another dish with a tricky angle: "How about spicy rabbit head? There's a Sichuan restaurant next to Zhuji Street. My dad took me there once. It looked scary, but it tasted delicious."

The clouds opened... "There's nothing like this either."

Yueming said listlessly, "Forget it, let's just eat whatever we have!" He sighed dejectedly, "It's so hot here, I don't have much of an appetite to begin with, and there's nothing here or there."

Yunkai suspected she was picking on him, but he had no evidence. She seemed to enjoy everything she ate, but she was actually quite difficult to please. She wouldn't eat anything too spicy, too sour, smelly, or raw or pickled. She'd already skimmed through most of Siam's dishes.

After racking his brains for a while, Yun Kai said, "I'll take you to eat grilled seafood tomorrow."

"That's fine!" He responded reluctantly.

What's that expression? It's just a matter of whether you want to eat or not. Why is it that you're making such a sour face?

Yun Kai didn't want to upset her since they had just arrived in Bangkok, so he said softly, "If you have anything that suits your taste and can be bought in Bangkok, just tell me. I always want you to be happy."

Since he was so polite, I didn't hesitate. I glanced at the cheesecake on the table and said hesitantly, "No matter what flavor this cake is, I can still eat a few pieces a day."

Waiting for him here, Yun Kai snorted and laughed: "It would be choking to eat cake alone. How about buying a few boxes of soda and freezing them in the refrigerator to go with the cake?"

There's such a good deal?! Yueming quickly tapped the water glass with his ice cream spoon: "Deal."

The clouds cleared...deal?! A meal turned into an auction, huh? She'd learned the hard way about asking for exorbitant prices and then paying them back cheaply.

Yun Kai glared at her and said, "How can you eat properly after eating cake and soda? You are such a grown-up, why are you still acting like a child?"

Yueming remained silent. If he had asked, he would have asked. If he disagreed with her answer, then why was he asking her? After a moment of silence, he said expressionlessly, "I'm all alone in Bangkok, so of course whatever you say is what I want. You decide. Even if you feed me bran for three meals a day, would I dare not swallow it? I don't know who told me before I came here that I could eat whatever I wanted and do whatever I wanted in Siam. But he turned out to be even stricter than my dad. I went back to Kunming and bought three cakes in one go and ate them like a meal, and my dad didn't say a word to me."

Yun Kai was at a loss whether to laugh or cry: "If you want to eat, I will definitely buy it for you, but you have to be moderate. If you get a toothache, you will be the one who suffers."

Yueming curled her lips and continued to eat the cake, muttering as she ate, "I have to savor it thoroughly, because I'm afraid this is the only time I can have it."

Yunkai knew her trick, touched his pocket, said he was going to buy cigarettes, got up and went out.

No one knew where he bought the cigarettes. After Yueming finished her ice cream and cake, she boldly ordered a piece of the same cheesecake, thinking that even if he came back and caught her red-handed, she could still say with a clear conscience that she had not finished the previous piece.

He hadn't returned yet when he had eaten half of the cake. Yueming felt uneasy as she watched people coming and going outside the window.

Did something happen to him? Or had he just gotten pissed off and left her alone? She wasn't in the mood to eat the cake anymore. After waiting anxiously for a while, she felt really uncomfortable. She waved for the waiter to come over and pay the bill, and then she went out to look for him.

As she was paying the bill, there was a knock on the floor-to-ceiling window next to her. Yueming turned her head and saw Yunkai standing outside the window, smiling at her.

His fair face was tanned red by the sun, and sweat trickled down his forehead, cheeks, and neck. Perhaps feeling the heat, he'd taken off his jacket and draped it over his arm. He'd also untied his tie and stuffed it into his vest pocket, shoving it so carelessly that a bit of it hung down. But Yunkai's disheveled appearance wasn't what shocked Yueming the most. What shocked her the most was the bouquet of white roses he held in his hand.

Yunkai's smile widened as he watched her stunned. Pedestrians and cars hurried past behind him, and Yueming suddenly remembered what his art teacher had said.

When setting off the main subject, blur the background.

She now felt that with the clouds clearing, everything behind him had automatically faded into obscurity. Otherwise, why could she only see him?

She quickly ran out of the cafe and stood in front of him, hesitating, "Is it for me? Didn't you say you were going to buy cigarettes?"

Yun Kai didn't explain why, but simply held the flower forward and asked softly, "Do you like it?"

Yueming felt her heart beating fast. She took the flower, put it to her nose and smelled it, and whispered, "I like it."

How could she not like it? After she complained, he didn't say something perfunctory like "That's enough!" Instead, he ran out to buy her flowers in the scorching sun. Just look at his sweaty face and you can tell he must have run several blocks to get them for her. How could she not like it?

Seeing that he had coaxed her, Yun Kai coughed in a very artificial way: "You're done eating, let's go home!"

His purpose in trying so hard to coax her was self-evident. Last night, after she rejected him, he just slept with her in his arms. He probably wouldn't tolerate it anymore today.

In addition to the surging love between the two, there is also the endless freshness of physical intimacy. Before, in Yunxiang, there was no room for intimacy in public, but in Siam, there was no restriction.

Back at the mansion, Yun Kai, sweating all over, decided to take a shower first. After grabbing a change of clothes, he looked at Yue Ming, who was sitting obediently on the bed, and felt like teasing her. He raised his chin towards the bathroom and said teasingly with a raised eyebrow, "How about we go together?"

I thought Yueming was going to throw a pillow at him in a fit of rage, but she bit her lip and stood up, walking over to him. She wrapped her arms around his waist, buried her head in his chest, and said shyly, "My cheongsam has so many buttons and they're so hard to unbutton. You'll have a lot of work to do!"

This skill really impressed Yun Kai! He swallowed up and down his throat several times.

The Second Young Master Yun never went against his luck, unbuttoning the pearl buttons on his green cheongsam one by one. As he did so, he thought, "She loves pearls the most. When she has time, go to Lin Jiahao's house and pick some for her."

The soft cheongsam slowly slipped off, and he picked up Yueming by the waist, who was shyly covering her chest, and stepped into the bathroom. Yueming suddenly leaned against the door frame, biting her lip and said worriedly, "Is the bathtub too hard? The rocks in the pool rubbed my back and it hurt."

Yun Kai kissed her eyes and said vaguely: "Then I'll be down there to cushion you."
