Chapter 68 "Brother, how did you know?"...
After the banquet, the traveler came to borrow the fan again.
Seeing the Ox King open the cave entrance, he straightened his clothes and stepped forward, bowing deeply and saying, "Elder brother, it's been so many years, do you still remember your younger brother?"
The Bull King laughed and said, "Great Sage Equal to Heaven, Sun Wukong, how could I forget you! My good brother, I heard that you are now escorting Elder Tang to the West to retrieve the scriptures. What brings you to my Banana Cave?"
The pilgrim said, “Elder brother, has your sister-in-law mentioned borrowing the fan to you? To tell you the truth, I was escorting Master westward when we passed through the Flaming Mountains and could not proceed. I heard that your sister-in-law has a banana leaf fan that can fan away the fire. I beg you to help her. Once you have helped Sanzang cross the mountain, I will definitely return it.”
The Bull King said, "Sun Wukong, don't even mention borrowing the fan, I'm already annoyed with you!"
The traveler asked with a smile, "What's troubling you, elder brother?"
"Let's put aside the fact that you impersonated me to deceive my child. Years ago, at the Juxian Temple on Jieyang Mountain near the Western Liang Women's Kingdom, you beat my own brother and stole his spring water. Did that really happen?"
"Elder brother, please don't blame me. At that time, my master accidentally drank the water of the Zimu River, and even abortion was useless, so he had to borrow your spring water. However, I have been on a difficult journey and have no money to offer, which is why I had to fight that Ruyi Zhenxian. Elder brother, please don't blame me, please don't blame me."
“No problem!” said the Bull Demon King. “I can borrow this fan too, but there are two conditions you have to agree to.”
"Elder brother, please speak freely."
"First of all, go to Juxian Temple and apologize to my brother. If he doesn't blame you, that will be fine."
The traveler was displeased, but he suppressed it and asked with a smile, "The other one?"
“This is another matter,” said the Ox King. “You know I only have this one child, and I do everything for him. Now he has feelings for Zhu Bao’e, and she must stay and marry my child.”
“Elder brother, you’re joking,” the Monkey King said. “It was Guanyin Bodhisattva who instructed Wu Miao to escort Sanzang on his journey to retrieve the scriptures. How could she have any worldly desires, and how could she stay to get married?”
"If you do not agree to these two requests, then this fan cannot be lent."
The pilgrim gritted his teeth in anger: "That Immortal Ruyi is no match for me, and he lost to my cudgel, but there's no reason for him to kneel before me! My junior sister is focused on obtaining the scriptures, and there's no way she could marry anyone. Elder brother, please don't make things difficult for me. Apart from these two matters, anything else is fine. I just ask that you lend me your treasure."
"In that case, there's no need for further discussion," said the Bull Demon King. "Fight me for three rounds. If you win, then you can ask your wife to lend you the fan!"
"Very well, very well! It's been so many years since I last met my elder brother, let's have a contest now!" The pilgrim took out his golden cudgel from his ear, shook it, and began to fight with the Bull Demon King who was wielding the iron rod.
The Holy Infant King also picked up his Fire-Tipped Spear and came out of the cave to fight the two of them.
Meanwhile, Bao'e was preoccupied with the banana leaf fan, so she went straight to the Rakshasa woman's room and searched for it everywhere.
She was engrossed in her search when she suddenly heard someone behind her say, "What are you looking for? Tell me, and I'll help you find it."
Bao'e paused, turned around and saw Rakshasa standing at the cave entrance, her eyebrows slightly raised, but there was no smile on her face, and a group of little demons followed behind her.
The simpleton said, "Good sister, I'm a little hungry. Let's find some food."
"There's no stove or fire in my room, what are you looking for to eat?"
“Sister, I’m new here and don’t know any directions. How would I know where the stove is or where the fire is?” Bao’e looked a little dazed and walked straight out, muttering to herself, “How wonderful, how wonderful! After searching for a while, I’m not hungry anymore. I guess the room is very fragrant. Just drinking the fragrant air is enough to fill me up.”
"Sister, don't mistake me for a useless coward!" Bao'e was about to raise her rake to lash out when a little demon came to report that the Monkey King had been defeated and fled. She then put down her rake and said, "Actually, staying a couple more days would be fine. Sister, I'm a little sleepy. Find me a place to stay so I can take a nap."
The Rakshasa woman wanted to laugh, but she refused to back down, so she ordered several lesser demons to tie her up.
Bao'e was dragged into the cave, tears streaming down her face as she went: "Brother, have you been blinded by the smoke again? Poor me, Zhu Bao'e, unlike Tang Sanzang who has a body full of precious flesh, I have to be tied up like a dumpling. Poor me, so poor!"
She had just sat down when, not long after, the jade-faced fox suddenly appeared.
He said to the group of guarding demons, "The Great King sent me to question you. You should leave now."
The demons indeed left.
Bao'e said, "Uncle, someone like me, unarmed and looking like a dumpling, has nothing to ask me."
"Not asking any questions, just using this as a pretext." The jade-faced fox sat beside her, his hand resting on the hemp rope, gently turning it. "Bao'e, are you perhaps looking for the Banana Leaf Fan?"
Bao'e thought to herself that this person was truly a fox in disguise, yet cunning and treacherous.
She laughed and said, "Uncle, you're confused. If you're feeling hot and want a fan, you can go up the mountain and pick a banana tree. Don't ask me for one."
The fox demon said, "Bao'e, don't talk nonsense. I'm not looking for the banana leaf fan; I'm talking about the treasure in that Rakshasa's hand, the banana leaf fan. You could break into her room and turn the floor upside down, but you still wouldn't find the banana leaf fan. That banana leaf fan..."
He moved his fingers to her neck and gently stroked them downwards.
“But it’s here,” he said.
Bao'e, feeling a tickle from his tickling, asked, "Brother, how did you know?"
"The Bull Demon King mentioned it when he was drunk." The Jade-Faced King put his arm around her, wrapped his arms around her back, and helped her untie the ropes. "Bao'e, don't just sit here idly."
