Chapter 5 First Encounter

Fu Minghao took a day off to pick her up. Tan Fuya stayed home with the child and hadn't returned by late at night, which made her anxious.

Mo Wenqi started to get anxious as her grandmother kept asking her what had happened. Her grandfather was her greatest support, and she hoped that nothing bad would happen to him. She still wanted to live a good life.

Fu Minghao returned that evening, followed by a man carrying another person. The man had gray hair and looked somewhat listless, but even in his disheveled state, he exuded righteousness. Tan Fuya knew that this was Zhu Jiabao.

The person being held must be Madam Zhu, but she is currently unconscious and her face cannot be seen clearly.

Fu Minghao said, "Fuya, is there any food? We've been busy all day and we're hungry."

Tan Fuya didn't ask why she hadn't eaten all day, but told Sister Xu to quickly heat up the food and asked Madam Zhu if she wanted to take her to the room to rest.

Zhu Jiabao thanked her and carried his wife into the room. Tan Fuya left the two of them alone and went to the room to take care of the child.

Zhu Jiabao felt embarrassed: "Thank you so much for your help today. You accompanied me to several hospitals and even a small private clinic. Thank you!"

Having just arrived in Shanghai and being unfamiliar with the place, he wouldn't have been able to find so many hospitals without someone to guide him. Without a car, he wouldn't have been able to complete the examinations so quickly. Although the results weren't good, he was sincerely grateful.

Fu Minghao was also a little tired: "There's nothing to worry about. It was only because you came forward to testify that I was judged to be a red capitalist and was not criticized. You must be tired today too. Eat and rest well first. We can talk about it tomorrow."

Zhu Jiabao was naturally grateful. He had heard that Shanghai had more advanced medical equipment, so he came to try his luck.

After dinner, the two parted ways. Fu Minghao went to his room, only had time to say a few words, telling Zhu Jiabao to have a good welcome dinner the next day, and then fell asleep without saying anything more.

Tan Fuya could only sigh and coax the child to sleep. She only knew that Zhu Jiabao was now a high-ranking official, and his wife was a veteran revolutionary. She couldn't have gone mad unless something major had happened.

The next day, Fu Minghao did not go to the factory. After getting up in the morning, he told his wife about what happened yesterday. He had just picked up the person. The Zhu couple were fine at first, but when Mrs. Zhu saw a young man in military uniform, she went crazy. She grabbed the young man and kept saying that he did not want to join the army and go to the battlefield. She would not let go no matter what. It was only after Zhu Jiabao knocked her unconscious that she calmed down.

Then, despite having just been on the train for several days and not yet recovered, Zhu Jiabao insisted on going to the hospital first. They had no choice but to go to the hospital, one after another, but everyone said they couldn't cure him. Finally, when all else failed, he had to recommend going to Lao Qian's house. Lao Qian only said that a mental illness requires a mental cure.

Tan Fuya could only sigh: "I remember the Zhu family had three sons and one daughter, and we envied them for a long time. They were a prosperous family, and their children should all join the army, right? It seems there's been a problem."

Mo Wenqi suddenly remembered what his grandfather had said yesterday: "This year is 1954, which means the Korean War has just ended not long ago." Could it be that his child sacrificed his life in the Korean War? But then again, even the son of a high-ranking leader died on the battlefield. In the face of war, all lives are equal.

After Fu Minghao and his wife finished getting ready and came downstairs, they saw that Zhu Jiabao had been exercising for a while. Fu Minghao asked, "Why didn't Madam Zhu come out?"

Zhu Jiabao perked up and said, "What do you mean by 'Madam Zhu'? That's an old custom from the past. We don't do that anymore. My wife's name is Yumin. You can just call her Yumin. She probably hasn't woken up yet."

He then added somewhat embarrassedly, "Yesterday I was afraid she would scare others, so I knocked her unconscious a little too hard. She should sleep for a while longer."

His wife was perfect in his eyes, but when you're out and about, not everyone will be accommodating. He tried his best not to cause trouble for others, but now he could only ask his wife to make do. Because it was inconvenient for her to stay in the guesthouse, he came to bother Director Fu. Yesterday, Director Fu said that he had a little baby at home and couldn't be frightened.

Fu Minghao said, "Let's have breakfast first! Then we'll go get the results."

Several hospitals gave me a general explanation and I did a few tests. It was too late yesterday, so I couldn't get the results out. I'll go pick them up today.

Several people went to the restaurant together, and Fu Minghao asked, "I heard that Vice President Liu of the military hospital is a highly skilled doctor, but he's on a long leave. What about you guys...?"

Zhu Jiabao was also helpless: "My wife is Liu Yumin, the vice president of the military hospital."

A doctor cannot heal himself. His wife was a revolutionary who joined him and was a descendant of imperial physicians. Her medical skills were among the best in the country. Unfortunately, she could save others but not herself.

Fu Minghao was shocked. To be someone Qian Lai respected even before meeting was quite remarkable. He asked curiously, "I wonder about Yu Min's illness..."

Zhu Jiabao said with heartache, "Before the end of the Korean War, we received a notice that all four of my children had been killed in action."

The children secretly went to register without their parents' knowledge. By the time the couple found out, they were about to leave. They could have used their positions to stop them, but serving their country was their honor, so they did not take any action.

Two years ago, they had received good news one after another, which put their minds at ease. But when the war was about to end, they were suddenly struck by bad news: all four of their sons had been killed. He turned white-haired overnight, and his wife could not bear it and went insane.

Fu Minghao stopped talking; it was a heavy topic. After dinner, Fu Minghao and Zhu Jiabao reminisced, while Sister Xu went to buy groceries to prepare for the welcome dinner at noon. Tan Fuya finally managed to coax the child to sleep and went to the backyard to pick some flowers to change the clothes.

When Mo Wenqi woke up, she couldn't find anyone and just sat there in a daze. She thought about what exactly happened in 1954 and how her expertise could help. Since life was destined to be short, she wanted to do something meaningful in this short time. Unfortunately, with her small arms and legs, it would be a long and arduous journey for her to take revenge on the Xue family's mother-in-law and daughter-in-law.

Mo Wenqi moved her little hand, tears welling up in her eyes from the pain. There was no one around; even if she screamed, no one would come. She could only wail in her mind, "It hurts so much! Heavens above! Earth below! Is there any kind fairy sister who will come and save me!"

Just as I was getting bored, I sensed someone coming. Hey, another beautiful grandma! This grandma was so heroic and spirited; she was definitely the kind of woman who wouldn't be outdone by any man, the kind who would wield a big sword and chop down Japanese devils.

No, she's never seen this grandmother before. It must be the grandmother her grandfather mentioned who was staying with her.

Liu Yumin slowly approached the baby, but her eyes were blank. From her perspective, the baby looked so fragile that it would break if touched.
