Chapter 147 Getting on the Train

Liu Yumin looked at Zhu Fanfan with a very resentful gaze. Was she complaining that Zhu Fanfan's cooking was bad? All she did was burn the food a few times.

Zhu Fanfan said sweetly, "I want to cook for Grandma!"

Lin Damei couldn't stand it anymore: "Sister-in-law Yumin, I'll cook for you while you rest. Your hands are used to holding scalpels, so I'll do these chores."

Don't make my goddaughter's stomach upset from eating this. She had seen Sister-in-law Yumin almost burn down the kitchen while cooking. Although she later found out it was a false alarm, it was just that she didn't light any wood and the whole house was filled with smoke. She was scared too.

Before Liu Yumin could speak, Lin Damei quickly said, "I'm not tired. Fanfan is my goddaughter, so you're practically my god-sister. There's no need to be so polite between sisters. Hurry up and take Fanfan there. Lin Wu is still waiting for you."

Don't say you can't trouble her; she's genuinely afraid that if the house burns down, her house will also burn down.

Time was tight, so Liu Yumin took Fanfan to find Hang Siyuan. Hang Siyuan was waiting in front of the administration building. They greeted each other and exchanged a few words before leaving in a hurry.

Throughout the journey, Zhu Fanfan was incredibly well-behaved, answering every question with a smile, especially when her two dimples appeared – she was just too adorable. Even though Hang Siyuan was feeling listless, she couldn't help but chat with Zhu Fanfan for a few more minutes before falling into a deep sleep.

The secretary standing next to him explained, "The director has been working too hard lately, he's been working non-stop for several days."

Zhu Fanfan nodded obediently, and the secretary didn't say anything more. A few minutes later, she yawned and fell asleep. Zhu Fanfan felt bored, so she used her consciousness to enter the space to harvest food.

Upon arriving at the train station, boarding the train and finding their carriage went smoothly. They had specifically booked a soft sleeper, which was in a better environment and would allow them to rest. They planned to start working immediately after getting off the train and arriving at their destination.

Zhu Fanfan, Fang Zhiguo, Hang Siyuan, and a bodyguard were in one carriage, while the secretary and another bodyguard were in another. After finding each other, they first tidied up the beds and took out their daily necessities. By the time the group had finished tidying up, it was time for dinner.

Zhu Fanfan took out the steamed buns that her godmother had made, only to realize that she had taken a lot. Was she trying to stuff herself to death?

"These are steamed buns made by my godmother. Grandpa Hang, have one and drink some water later, otherwise they won't keep in this heat. It'll be a long time before we get to Shanghai!"

Although the country's transportation is not well-developed now, Shanghai's economy is very prosperous. Since the founding of the People's Republic of China, the train has been continuously improved, and now the dedicated line to Shanghai only takes a little over a day.

Hang Siyuan had recovered his spirits and was much more energetic. He naturally lowered his tone when facing Zhu Fanfan: "How could I take advantage of a little kid like you? Your godmother made this for you, so eat more. We have a business trip allowance, so we can just buy some food. Tell Grandpa Hang what Fanfan likes, and Grandpa Hang will buy it for you. Your grandpa and Grandpa Hang are sworn brothers, so don't be polite with Grandpa Hang."

Zhu Fanfan said with a pitiful look, "The steamed buns went bad when they got to Shanghai, and I couldn't finish them. I'll treat you to steamed buns this time, and you can treat me to a meal next time, okay?"

For some reason, Hang Siyuan softened: "Okay, let's eat Fanfan's steamed buns for this meal, and then I'll treat little Fanfan to something delicious."

Zhu Fanfan nodded: "Grandpa gave me a lot of money and said it would be enough for me to eat my fill. Fanfan doesn't want to eat my fill, it's uncomfortable."

The innocent tone and soft voice made Hang Siyuan feel as if she were a fairy descended from heaven, and that whatever she said was right. Almost instinctively, he wanted to nod, but he held back in the end: "Don't listen to your grandpa's nonsense. We'll eat if we want to, and we won't eat if we don't want to."

Zhu Fanfan nodded obediently again, making Hang Siyuan want to take her home as his granddaughter and chat with her.

The bodyguards left behind by Hang Siyuan were probably from the Dragon Group. They were cold and aloof, giving off a feeling similar to ruthless killers. Fang Zhiguo, on the other hand, had a tough guy vibe and gave people a sense of security.

While they were chatting, the secretary and another bodyguard came in. Zhu Fanfan took out the steamed buns and sesame seed cakes: "I still have plenty of food. I'm not hungry either. Let's eat together!"

After another round of polite refusals, Hang Siyuan finally agreed to eat with Zhu Fanfan. Zhu Fanfan breathed a sigh of relief. She knew that the buns and sesame cakes couldn't be stored away, otherwise they wouldn't taste good. She appreciated her godmother's kindness and would repay her in the future, but she really couldn't eat them.

The soft sleeper berth was quiet, and the group had a rare moment of peace. Zhu Fanfan took out a book and started reading. When Hang Siyuan saw that Zhu Fanfan was reading a traditional Chinese book, he couldn't help but ask, "Chinese characters have been simplified now, why are you still reading traditional ones?"

Zhu Fanfan spoke with sincerity: "Grandma said that the medical books in our family are all in traditional characters. If you don't study them, you won't be able to understand them. They are the essence passed down from our ancestors. We can't discard them as dross just because the characters are complicated."

Hang Siyuan asked curiously, "Do you recognize these characters?"

Zhu Fanfan nodded: "I can understand them all. My grandma taught me, my godfather taught me, and my great-grandfather taught me at the hospital." So now she recognizes them all.

Hang Siyuan greatly admired the Chinese language, saying that simplification was for convenience and should not be discarded. Seeing that Zhu Fanfan was reading attentively, he did not disturb her and took out the document to study it little by little.

Soon after, Zhu Fanfan yawned from exhaustion and fell asleep on the bed. Fang Zhiguo, seeing this, also went back to his upper bunk to rest.

Hang Siyuan was also sleepy and wanted to rest, but when she saw that Zhu Fanfan had kicked off the blanket, she was afraid that she would catch a cold, so she went over to cover her up. Unexpectedly, Zhu Fanfan suddenly opened her eyes and attacked directly. Hang Siyuan immediately defended herself.

Zhu Fanfan's attacks were swift and ruthless, hitting vital points directly. Hang Siyuan was afraid of hurting Zhu Fanfan, so he dared not retaliate too forcefully. After a few moves, Zhu Fanfan regained his senses and stopped.

Zhu Fanfan apologized first: "I'm sorry, Grandpa Hang, I didn't know it was you. I hope I didn't hurt you?"

Seeing the child's cautious manner, he said with a smile, "Grandpa Hang also retired from the battlefield, so he's not so careless. You can't hurt me. Your blanket fell off, and Grandpa Hang wanted to cover you with it."

Who knew he would almost get beaten up by this little girl? He should have known that Zhu Jiabao wouldn't spoil her children. This child was decisive and measured in her actions. He had been tormented by Zhu Jiabao quite a bit, otherwise he wouldn't have developed such vigilance.

No wonder Zhu Jiabao said when he asked Fanfan to take care of the child that Fanfan wouldn't bother others and could take good care of himself.

Zhu Fanfan looked completely innocent: "I didn't know I kicked off the blanket."

Hang Siyuan was relieved: "You should get some rest; the journey will take quite a while!"

The two had intended to get some rest, but then a noisy commotion broke out outside. Soon after, a serious-looking secretary arrived with tense bodyguards, and Hang Siyuan and Zhu Fanfan became nervous as well.
