Chapter 4 A Phone Call from Beijing

Fu Minghao was startled and said irritably, "Sister Xu, can't you walk properly?"

Sister Xu looked completely innocent: "Director Fu, can't you see people? I've been standing right in front of you for ages and you still can't see me. That's when I finally spoke up. Where did this child come from? Don't upset Madam!"

Fu Minghao laughed in anger: "Sister Xu, how old am I? You still think I can pull that illegitimate child thing? This is Fu Jing's child, I brought him back. Also, don't call me Madam anymore, just call me Fu Ya by my name. This is a new society now."

Sister Xu agreed, but she was still unconvinced. She was a servant born into the Fu family, so wasn't it normal for her to call them "Master" and "Madam"? Calling them by their names was against the rules.

Upon entering the house, seeing his wife playing the piano, his agitated mood immediately calmed down. When Tan Fuya saw her husband return, she asked Sister Xu to put the piano back. Seeing the child as well, she asked curiously, "Whose child did you bring back? Won't this cause trouble?"

Fu Minghao sighed and recounted the child's origins again, this time in more detail: "Because she's a girl, that beast Fu Jing wanted to starve her to death. I took her to the hospital for a checkup, and they said the child's health had deteriorated and she needed careful nurturing. I guessed the child was doomed in the Xue family, so I simply brought her back. We'll raise her from now on. Don't worry about Fu Jing; if we give her a little something, she might even send over the rest of her children."

He took out the money and wrote down the precautions for his wife. After reading them, although there were many precautions, he didn't mention that he had needles in his body. He didn't want his wife to know about these sordid things.

“This child has suffered too much. She can even be cruel to her own child. Let’s not see her again. Let’s pretend we never had this daughter.”

Tan Fuya's eyes reddened as she looked at the many precautions. Qian Lai's medical skills were among the top three in the hospital, if not the best. The fact that he wrote all this meant that the child's condition was really not optimistic.

Mo Wenqi opened his eyes and saw a beautiful woman with a gentle face and soft eyes. She was someone who was easy to like, so he smiled sweetly at her.

Tan Fuya said happily, "Old Fu, look, she smiled at me. The little girl is so cute, Grandma's darling."

This is my grandma! She's so beautiful, even more elegant than those movie stars from my past life. She's the epitome of a refined lady. Time never defeats a beauty, only the elegance that comes with age.

Mo Wenqi had no choice but to say, "Hungry!"

Grandma was delighted: "Old Fu, do you hear her saying she's hungry?"

Fu Minghao: ...How did your wife figure it out?

So Tan Fuya happily asked Sister Xu to open another bottle, make formula, and feed the baby, ignoring Fu Minghao completely. She left so heartlessly that Fu Minghao was left talking to himself behind her.

Fu Minghao: ...He just wanted to ask what else the child needed to buy, and he would buy it after get off work tomorrow.

Tan Fuya came over again a while later and, before Fu Minghao could speak, said, "I received a call from Beijing today. He said his surname is Zhu, his wife is sick and he needs to come to Shanghai for treatment. He wants to stay for a while, and I have already agreed. They should arrive in a few days."

Fu Minghao wanted to say a few more words, but Tan Fuya turned and left. She preferred the sweet and cuddly little girl.

Mo Wenqi looked at the furnishings in the room. They were Western-style and quite exquisitely arranged, much better than what she had seen on television during the Republican era. This made her ponder what era this was.

The Xue family is more like the well-off family in period novels, but the maternal grandfather's house can only be described as magnificent. I heard that there was a period of great difficulty after the founding of the People's Republic of China, so there shouldn't be such a luxurious decoration. What year was this?

Seeing Mo Wenqi's expression, Tan Fuya said with a smile, "Sister Xu, look at the little girl, it's like she can see everything."

He kept turning his head this way and that, looking very energetic.

Sister Xu also smiled and said, "Madam, a newborn baby has very weak eyesight and can't see far away clearly. Things in front of him are also blurry."

Tan Fuya didn't hesitate and joined Sister Xu in taking care of the children.

At this point, Mo Wenqi also sensed something was wrong. She had heard that children's eyesight and hearing were very weak, and they could only see things in front of them, and even then, they were blurry. How could she see everything so clearly?

She took the exam normally without any unexpected events, and she still can't understand how she could have time-traveled.

During dinner, only Grandpa and Grandma were there; Sister Xu ate in the kitchen. They had told her several times that she wouldn't eat with them, and they were quite helpless.

Fu Minghao said, "I'm not very familiar with Zhu Jiabao. When we delivered supplies to the Red Army, we were in contact with him. Later, when the Eighth Route Army was short of supplies, he asked for help, which is how we started to have more contact. We've only met a few times in total. The medical equipment and doctors in Beijing are top-notch. If they can't treat us in Beijing, we're afraid we'll be in trouble here too."

Tan Fuya also sighed, "It's fortunate that he's alive. If it weren't for his testimony, we would have been labeled as bad capitalists and subjected to criticism and struggle sessions."

Fu Minghao was also extremely fortunate. Although they were heartbroken by the country's plight, they were just businessmen after all. Apart from the supplies they had, they had no other abilities. Moreover, his family's textile factory business was too big, and it was inevitable that they would be targeted by foreigners in the concession. They had to be extremely careful in their actions to avoid giving anyone any leverage. Similarly, no one could prove that they had delivered supplies to the Red Army. If it weren't for Zhu Jiabao, he would definitely have been criticized and denounced after liberation.

The third daughter's in-laws were spared being labeled as bad capitalists because of Zhu Jiabao's testimony. Because of their shared experiences, they are now the closest of the in-laws.

Thinking of the fate of most capitalists, Fu Minghao said, "Since his wife is here for a medical appointment, we will definitely do our best to be good hosts, take good care of the little girl, and not disturb Mrs. Zhu."

Tan Fuya nodded in agreement. She would unconditionally support any decision her husband made. Just like when they delivered supplies to the Red Army, her father said that Fu Minghao had a broad perspective and that she should listen to him when they disagreed. All she had to do was protect the rear area.

Over the years, facts have proven that every decision Lao Fu made was correct, and she was completely convinced.

Mo Wenqi looked aggrieved, seeing how good others were, able to point out their own flaws while she couldn't even speak, her desire for revenge seemingly endless. This is what they mean by "no comparison, no harm."

Although she knew she was being unreasonable, she was in so much pain! The pain was so bad that she started being sarcastic and sarcastic towards an old man she'd never met. She was wrong and needed to repent, sob sob sob…

Faced with their baby girl's cries, the couple frantically tried to soothe her, as they hadn't raised a child in many years and were unsure of what the baby was thinking.
