Chapter 441 Forgetting the Most Important Person

"Children, run!"

I shouted loudly, but a stranger outside the classroom asked me to speak more quietly.

They said I was banging the door and shouting, disturbing them.

Is it the teacher from another class? Why are you afraid of noise at this hour?!

How could you not see such a huge fire?! There were wooden tables and chairs everywhere, wooden-framed windows, and the fire spread quickly.

Under my guidance, most students ran to the playground as soon as possible, but the little kid in the class fell down while running away.

The student behind her accidentally stepped on her foot, and she screamed, which immediately caught my attention.

I hurriedly ran over and picked her up. After making sure that all the students in the class had run out, I rushed to the playground with the little girl in my arms.

"Cover your mouth and nose!"

Looking at the thick smoke that kept coming, I reminded the children, but I choked twice.

The old school building was engulfed in the fire. In this small southern border town, many houses are built with wood, and the beams made crackling sounds in the fire.

"It's almost there... it's almost there..."

I gasped as I looked at the exit, and sweat ran down my forehead as I held the little kid in my arms. But just as I was about to escape, the corridor in front of the exit collapsed.

There was no time for me to hesitate. Fortunately, I knew the terrain and another class's classroom was right next to me.

I didn't dare to delay and ran over. The fire was spreading inside, but fortunately it was not that serious.

I tried hard to kick over the nearby tables and chairs, and escaped through the window with the little kid.

I lost consciousness with a smile on my face as I saw the kids on the playground running towards me.

When I opened my eyes in the hospital, Xiaoqin was crying very sadly.

She never spoke to me so loudly.

"Mom! Don't abandon me like this! Can you please think about me?"

The ward was crowded with students and parents. Xiaodouding looked at Xiaoqin's sad expression, and her eyes also turned red. She felt that she had done something wrong.

"Isn't it okay, Mom?"

I touched Xiaoqin's head to comfort her, but found that my arm was very painful, so I applied thick ointment on my arm.

Fortunately, the burn was not very serious and it would heal after a few days of rest.

The government is helping to rebuild school buildings, and I am taking my children to study in a makeshift shed.

Although the conditions are more difficult, I feel that there is more desire for knowledge in the children's eyes since the fire.

The scars on my arms and legs also made my students look at me with more respect, and I hardly had any trouble with that class afterwards.

Xiao Douding's composition won a prize. She said that her teacher was her hero in that fire.

Not only did it save her life, but it also planted a dream in her heart that she would become a teacher like me in the future.

She almost sobbed as she read the article to me, and I couldn't stop crying after listening to it. Every student is my best child.

My lover is a rough man. He always asks me, is it worth working so hard?

I think it is worth it. Seeing those young lives no longer confused, eager to learn and having dreams is the proudest moment for me as a teacher.

Many years after graduation, they still come to see me and marvel at the brand new school building. I can still accurately call out each of their names.

But my health seems to be getting worse.

When I woke up in the hospital again, Xiaoqin was talking to some strangers. They all had serious expressions and some were even crying.

They suggested that Xiaoqin send me to a hospital in a big city.

Didn't I just faint? It's just low blood sugar, nothing serious. It's so expensive to go to a big city for treatment.

Seeing that I opened my eyes, they surrounded me.

"Teacher, do you still remember me? I'm Xiao Jiang, a little kid..."

I looked at her blankly. Little kid? How could the smallest student in my class, a head shorter than my daughter, be the middle-aged woman in front of me?

Others also gathered around, and they looked at me one by one, hoping that I would call out their names.

But I couldn't recognize any of them, and I was a little scared.

"Xiaoqin! Xiaoqin!"

I wanted my daughter to kick them out, but a middle-aged woman came over.

"What's wrong, mom?"

Her eyes were full of concern, but I felt anger rising in my heart.

"Xiaoqin! Where is Xiaoqin!"

I screamed, and she lowered her head and grabbed my hand hard.

"My mom... Thank you all for coming to see my mom. Please go back today."

The woman pretending to be a little girl was talking to the middle-aged woman in front of me, but I felt like I couldn't understand anything and the scene around me kept changing.

I was being interviewed by a TV station, and my lover and Xiaoqin were looking at me with smiles on their faces.

At the end of the interview, Xiaoqin hugged me and said, "Mom, you are my pride."

My heart ached. My mother was not a good mother. I felt sorry for my daughter, but she was proud of me.

Xiaoqin's appearance grew rapidly in front of my eyes. She grew taller from being so petite, and wrinkles slowly appeared on her face.

I was so shocked that I was speechless. What happened? Why did my Xiaoqin suddenly become old?

I stroked her cheek tremblingly.

She looked at me in surprise, "Mom? Did you recognize me?"

I nodded. It turned out that so much time had passed.

Xiaoqin excitedly thanked the doctor beside her and said that the recent treatment was very effective.

Am I sick?

Yes, I'm sick.

I live in a corridor where time is constantly changing, my memories are no longer continuous, and the time I am awake is getting shorter and shorter.

I thought I could spend all my time making up for Xiaoqin after retirement, but I didn't expect that I would become a burden to Xiaoqin.
