Chapter 83: The Author's New Book Has Been Released
The alarm clock rang, and Yuan Siyin turned over, subconsciously pressing the button on her phone to continue sleeping.
Less than five minutes later, she suddenly woke up, groggily rolled over to get up, dressed and washed, rubbed her sleepy eyes in front of the mirror, hastily tied her hair into a high ponytail, took one last look at the quiet room before leaving, and slammed the door shut.
The streets were shrouded in morning mist, and one after another, withered sycamore leaves the size of a palm fell, brushing past her shoulders and swaying as they landed on the ground.
The coffee shop on the street corner smelled delicious, so she paused for a moment, then went in and bought a warm sea salt latte.
She was dressed a little too lightly when she went out, and the chilly autumn wind crept into her neck through her thin sweater. She unconsciously wrapped her khaki coat tighter around herself and took bigger steps.
"Ding—Good morning, Ms. Yuan Siyin. You have successfully checked in."
A mechanical sound rang out, the red dot jumped, and then flashed a faint green light.
Yuan Siyin blankly inserted her name tag into the attendance sheet, turned around, walked to the elevator entrance, and pressed the up button.
The elevator doors opened slightly, and she stepped in, closed her eyes, and pressed the button for the 32nd floor with practiced ease.
The journey from the 1st floor to the 32nd floor took a little longer than usual.
It was quiet all around. Feeling she had nothing to do, she leaned lazily against the walls, took out a lip gloss from her bag, applied a thin layer, and casually smacked her lips in front of the mirror.
After all that was done, the elevator showed that it had only reached the 8th floor.
She glanced at her phone screen: Saturday, 7:16 a.m.
Yuan Siyin lowered her eyes slightly and tapped the blue app on the desktop. A line of text popped up from the system:
The new book by the author you're following has been released!
She stared blankly for a moment, then "ding," and they arrived at the 32nd floor.
Without giving it much thought, Yuan Siyin put away her phone and walked straight out, calmly sitting down in her own office area.
The documents on the table were neatly arranged, and a small succulent plant sat on the corner. She put down her coffee, turned on her computer, entered her password, and a family photo of the three of them appeared on the desktop.
The girl hugged her mother's neck, smiling shyly, while the father looked at his mother with a happy expression.
Yuan Siyin took a deep breath and began her day's work.
In the vast office, only her own breathing and the dull clicking of the mouse could be heard; for a moment, there was no other sound.
"Sister Yinyin, can you take a look at this report and see if there are any problems?"
"good."
Yuan Siyin responded habitually, but when she looked up, she realized there was no one in front of her.
She rubbed her ears curiously, and the tassels on her small earrings swayed a few times with her movements.
"Sister Siyin, I heard there are fireworks at the sacrificial ceremony. Would you like to go watch them together?"
Yuan Siyin's breath hitched.
"Sister Yin, the plan has been rejected and reworked several times. Has it passed this time or not? Just give me a straight answer!"
"Miss, you haven't learned how to weave straw rabbits yet? Of course, I don't mean to say you're stupid, I'm just worried that you won't be able to get married."
"Slacking off during work hours? Hmm? Bring a coffee to my office."
"Are you stupid? You are stupid."
The computer desktop picture suddenly jumped, leaving only a lonely girl huddled in a corner, covered in wounds.
She sobbed as she got up, only to be kicked to the ground again.
Yuan Siyin opened her mouth, staring blankly at the constantly changing desktop, unable to say anything, only feeling a buzzing in her ears.
It hurts, an indescribable pain, as if every part of my body aches.
