"What?" Zhang Qiao didn't understand what she said.
Jiang Yining sniffed, "My aunt said that my grandparents were not in good health. They didn't live to be sixty. My grandfather and my mother both died of cancer. My uncle is now..."
Zhang Qiao said firmly, "No, don't let your imagination run wild."
She was panicked when she heard what Jiang Yining said. Her mother had told her this before, but she was afraid that Jiang Yining would worry, so she didn't dare to mention it in front of Jiang Yining.
Jiang Yining is a heavy-hearted person, worrying too much and consuming too much stress, but Zhang Qiao can understand her. Her mother is not around, her father doesn't love her, and if she doesn't think more about herself, she will really be treated like a blood bag.
She took a tissue and gently wiped Jiang Yining's tears. "Okay, little crybaby, your eyes will get swollen if you cry any more."
Thinking that she had to go home later, Jiang Yining stopped crying and said, "Can I have another drink? Just one."
Zhang Qiao felt soft-hearted but only poured her half a cup. "The last half. If you drink any more, I'll have to force you to stay here overnight."
Jiang Yining stayed at Zhang Qiao's place until almost half past twelve in the morning. Before leaving, he went to the bathroom to wash his face and looked carefully at her eyes. He waited until it was no longer obvious that she had been crying before he was willing to go back.
Halfway through the journey, a muffled thunder sounded in the night sky. Jiang Yining was worried that it would rain when he got home, so he lowered his head and rummaged through his bag, but he didn't bring an umbrella.
Zhang Qiao sent her a message: "Ningning, it looks like it's going to rain soon. Do you have an umbrella?"
Jiang Yining: [No.]
It shouldn't be that unlucky.
Zhang Qiao: [If it rains when you get home, ask He Chi to come pick you up.]
It’s so late, I don’t know if He Chi is asleep.
Jiang Yining replied to Zhang Qiao and put the phone away. As soon as he looked up, the summer night rain began to fall heavily, and the raindrops left several rain marks on the car window.
The car stopped at the gate of Yuhubancheng. Jiang Yining held the bag in her arms and rushed in as fast as she could after getting out of the car.
When he arrived at the door of his house, Jiang Yining raised his hand to wipe the rain off his face. His hands were too wet, and he pressed the fingerprint lock three times but failed to open the door successfully.
The door was opened by He Chi from the inside. Facing the man's slightly cold gaze, Jiang Yining was instantly at a loss, "You...are you still not asleep?"
He Chi's cold and sharp black eyes looked at Jiang Yining. She was soaked, her hair was still dripping with water, her long eyelashes fluttered up and down, and she looked at him at a loss.
He stepped aside to let Jiang Yining in and asked her, "Why didn't you let me pick you up? Why didn't you call me when you came back in the rain?"
Jiang Yining bit her lip and said, "I thought you were asleep."
She heard He Chi's cold tone and knew he was angry. She originally wanted to ask him about Zhao Jiajia, but had to put it aside for the time being.
He Chi sighed helplessly, "Go take a shower first, then drink ginger soup after you finish."
Jiang Yining said "oh", glanced at He Chi's back, and walked towards the master bedroom.
He Chi had never cooked ginger soup before, so he had to look for tutorials online. After cooking the first pot, he tasted it and found it so unpalatable that he had to throw it away and cook it again.
Jiang Yining was worried that He Chi would have to wait for a long time, so she sped up. After drying her hair, she saw He Chi still in the kitchen.
He Chi took out a bowl from the pot. The food in the pot was quite drinkable.
The two sat face to face. Jiang Yining lowered her head to drink the ginger soup. It was a bit unpalatable. She held her breath, tried not to smell the taste, and swallowed it in one gulp.
He Chi looked at her quietly for a while. When he was angry, he exuded a cold aura. Jiang Yining could feel it even across the dining table. This chapter has been read (please click on the next chapter to continue reading!)
