"Even if she discovers the truth someday, what then? That woman loves me to her very core, she's poured out her heart for me. She won't leave me. In any case, I know what I'm doing ...
Chapter 4 Why are you shy? It's not like you haven't seen it before.
When Li Xu rang the doorbell, Feng Mingzhou was sitting on the sofa with his arms around Gu Manman.
She was too lazy to get up, so he patted her back and motioned for him to open the door.
"Boss Feng."
Li Xu held several heavy shopping bags in both hands and bowed his head to hand them to Feng Mingzhou respectfully.
"Put it here."
Feng Mingzhou took the bag and placed it casually on the table at the entrance. Li Xu nodded tactfully and left.
When he turned around to close the door, Gu Manman had already walked to the shopping bag, rummaged inside, took out a box of strawberries, and threw it into her mouth.
"Hungry?"
"Um."
Gu Manman swallowed the sweet and sour fruit, with water stains on her fingertips. Feng Mingzhou took the box from her hand, pulled her hand over, put it to his lips and gently sucked away the water marks on her fingertips.
The bag was full of fresh ingredients. She picked a few and put them in the refrigerator. From the corner of her eye, she saw Feng Mingzhou had rolled up his sleeves and was busy in the kitchen.
"Sit there and wait. Have you got any inspiration for your novel?"
Gu Manman shook her head, leaned on the bar at the kitchen door, and looked at his neat back with her chin in her hands.
"Is the editor pushing you too hard?"
“It’s so stressful.” She sighed, “But I can’t write a single word.”
"Write about me." Feng Mingzhou didn't even turn his head, the knife hitting the chopping board made a crisp sound, "I'm so outstanding, even if you write from beginning to end, it's still not enough."
Gu Manman sat at the dining table, looking at the man in the kitchen, and felt that the scene had a strange contrast.
The CEO of Feng Group, who was a powerful figure in the business world and a thunderous eloquent at the negotiation table, was now wearing simple home clothes with his sleeves rolled up to his forearms, revealing his well-defined muscles, and was concentrating on preparing lunch for her.
The eldest son of the prominent Feng family was raised by dozens of servants in his family.
His childhood was filled with magnificent ballrooms, priceless toys and the privilege of never having to work with his hands.
He just needs to stretch out his hand for clothes and open his mouth for food, this is his normal life.
But now, he was standing in the kitchen, with his hair slightly hanging down in front of his forehead, and his eyes carefully mixing the seasonings.
Even a five-star chef might not be able to match his level of seriousness at this moment.
After regaining his sight, Feng Mingzhou preferred the time they spent alone together.
He cooks more and more frequently, from the clumsy fried eggs in the beginning to being able to make a table of exquisite home-cooked meals now.
He would adjust the menu to suit her taste, remembering that she liked sweet and sour flavors and didn't like food that was too spicy.
Feng Mingzhou liked the feeling of taking care of her. It wasn't the kind of care from a distance that one would get from hiring a nanny or a private chef, but the satisfaction of doing it personally and seeing her happy because of his efforts.
This feeling is something that all his success in business cannot give him.
After dinner, she took the initiative to clean up the dishes, but he hugged her from behind.
"Go sit on the sofa and I'll wash it."
Gu Manman dipped some water droplets on her fingers, turned around and flicked them on his face, then took advantage of the moment he was distracted to slip into the living room.
When he finished cleaning up, she was already curled up in the corner of the sofa, dozing off with Snowball in her arms. The sun shone in from the window, falling on her face, and her eyelashes cast a faint shadow under her eyelids.
Feng Mingzhou tiptoed over and sat down beside her. The sofa sank slightly, and Gu Manman opened her eyes and rubbed them.
"Why don't you go to bed?"
She yawned: "Wait for you to watch a movie together."
Feng Mingzhou touched her head, and Gu Manman leaned on his shoulder, talking in her sleep.
The two of them found a comedy, in which Gu Manman fell asleep and woke up, and then fell asleep again. Feng Mingzhou simply held her and lay down. The sofa was too narrow, so he hugged her tightly for fear of falling off.
"Does your waist hurt?" she asked drowsily.
"Holding your tiny body, like a paper man, it won't hurt."
Gu Manman's eyebrows curved, and she nestled deeper into his arms. Halfway through the movie, his cell phone lit up several times, but he didn't answer it.
"There's a phone call." She muttered and heard him hum softly.
"unimportant."
She closed her eyes and the dialogue in the movie became the background noise. She heard the hero and heroine in the movie quarreling and reconciling. Feng Mingzhou's heartbeat was beside her ear, regular and steady.
At this moment, she only wanted to remember his temperature and breath.
Feng Mingzhou lowered his eyes, watching the person in his arms sleeping peacefully. His fingertips brushed across the dark circles under her eyes, so gently that he didn't want to disturb her dream.
Snowball paced around the sofa, finally jumped up, stepped on his legs, found a comfortable position and fell asleep.
The sunlight cast a golden halo on the sofa, outlining the silhouettes of two people leaning on each other and a cat.
Feng Mingzhou looked out the window, then lowered his head and gently kissed her forehead.
Gu Manman was sleeping soundly, her consciousness floating between half asleep and half awake.
Feng Mingzhou's embrace was so comfortable and warm that she slept through the entire afternoon.
The sunlight outside the window had turned into a warm orange color, shining in obliquely and casting long shadows on the floor.
She opened her eyes dazedly and found herself still leaning on Feng Mingzhou's chest.
He held her with one hand and swiped his phone with the other, not knowing what he was looking at.
Snowball lay on the armrest of the sofa, wagging his tail lazily.
"Awake?" Feng Mingzhou lowered his head and brushed the corner of her eye with his thumb.
"What time is it?" Gu Manman stretched, her voice still sleepy.
"Six o'clock."
"Ah? I slept for so long?" She sat up suddenly.
Feng Mingzhou put her messy hair behind her ears with one hand and said with a smile: "You really sleep well."
The phone screen lit up and a new message came in.
Feng Mingzhou took a glance and suddenly turned it off.
"Zhao Yang has organized a dinner party, do you want to go?"
Gu Manman was stunned for a moment, and subconsciously wanted to ask Lin Jinyun if he wanted to go, but she swallowed the words back.
"Now?"
"Well, the place is not far away, just over at the Guomao."
Gu Manman didn't really want to go, especially when she thought about the possibility of seeing Lin Jinyun again. But she also didn't want to stay at home alone and think about it.
"All right."
"What are you thinking about, little fool." Feng Mingzhou hooked her chin, "Go change your clothes, I'll help you find them."
He pulled the sleepy Gu Manman into the bedroom and took out a dark green dress from the closet.
She frowned: "Isn't this too formal?"
"I like you wearing this."
Feng Mingzhou came over with the skirt in his hand and pulled the hem of her pajamas without giving any explanation. Gu Manman hurriedly grabbed his wrist and said, "No, I can do it myself."
"Why are you shy? It's not like you haven't seen it before."
He reluctantly let go of her hand and went to get her a glass of warm water.
Gu Manman closed her eyes and gulped down the liquid. When she opened her eyes again, she was much more sober.
Feng Mingzhou took a towel, wet it with warm water, and gently wiped her face: "Don't move, there are still saliva marks on your face."
Gu Manman was embarrassed and ashamed, and she pinched his shoulder angrily: "Where is the saliva mark! You are talking nonsense!"
Feng Mingzhou grabbed her wrist and said, "Okay, okay, no, I was just teasing you."
After wiping her face, he asked her to wash up quickly.
Gu Manman asked vaguely with toothpaste foam in her mouth: "How many people are going?"
Feng Mingzhou leaned against the bathroom door frame and watched her wash her face: "A few old friends, I know them all."
The green dress made Gu Manman's skin look as white as snow. She hesitated in front of the dressing mirror, but finally put on some lipstick.
Feng Mingzhou took out a diamond necklace from the drawer, walked behind her, and put the cold metal against her neck.
Gu Manman touched the necklace and looked up at him in the mirror: "Why are you so formal all of a sudden?"
"Hmm?" Feng Mingzhou fastened the necklace clasp and lowered his head to kiss the back of her neck. "Nothing, I just want to see you look prettier."
Feng Mingzhou picked up the dark blue shawl hanging by the door and gently placed it on Gu Manman's shoulders.
He smoothed out the wrinkles, his fingertips brushing over her shoulders.
"It cooled down at night."
"Yeah." Gu Manman nodded slightly and smelled his scent lingering on the shawl.
The floor-to-ceiling mirror in the entrance reflected two figures, one tall and straight, the other petite, the tassels on her shawl swaying gently with her movements.
The two walked out of the door one after the other. Gu Manman was wearing high heels and her steps were slightly unsteady.
Feng Mingzhou reached out and held her arm.
The car stopped downstairs and he opened the door as usual.
"Be careful with your head." He placed his palm on the back of her head and protected her as she entered the car.
Gu Manman shrank her shoulders; the temperature in the car was a little low.
Feng Mingzhou noticed her trembling slightly and said to the driver, "Turn up the air conditioning temperature."
