Chapter 39
After following the boy back home, Ah Yu threw the fishing net to the ground, rushed into the house and pulled his mother out, dancing with joy and saying that they were his saviors.
He pulled down his pants to show her the wound, and described in a moving voice how dangerous it was. The middle-aged woman looked very kind, but after listening to Ah Yu's words, tears welled up in their eyes.
After several exchanges, Su He changed his way of addressing the woman, calling her Aunt Zheng.
When Aunt Zheng heard that the two wanted to stay overnight, she quickly got busy and couldn't help asking a few questions.
Su He knew that everything about Sheng Jinyu had to be kept secret, so he just laughed it off.
She recognized Sheng Jin and the expensive watch on his wrist. She could also see that although their clothes were soaked and they looked a little disheveled, they were obviously not ordinary people. They probably had some unspeakable secrets that put them in temporary trouble.
Aunt Zheng stopped asking questions.
This small courtyard belongs to a family with relatively good economic conditions in the town. The courtyard is in a mess, as if it has been swept by the wind. Fortunately, the house has not been affected at all.
After clearing out an empty room, Aunt Zheng took out some dry clothes for the two of them to change into, and took out two quilts from the cupboard. Su Ke was dazzled by the bright red color, and only then did he realize that the quilt had a big red double happiness written on it.
Obviously, this is a pair of wedding quilts.
Sheng Jinyu frowned, his expression unremarkable. Su He glanced at him and said hesitantly, "Isn't this appropriate for us?"
Moreover, the wedding quilt was very new, obviously it had never been opened since it was made. How could it be wrong to let them sleep on something prepared for a wedding first?
Aunt Zheng smiled and explained, "My eldest son used to live in this house, and the quilt was prepared for him when he got married. But after he left, it became unused. The other quilts were all pressed into the box. They were damp and old and hard to sleep on."
Su He thought that "left" meant death, and tacitly did not mention this sad thing again.
He stopped Aunt Zheng who was about to make the bed and took the job on himself. Su He felt uneasy about borrowing someone else's work and asking the host family to do it. Moreover, there were so many rules and regulations that he had to do it himself to feel at ease.
The night in the small town was dark and quiet, with only the faint white noise of insects chirping and waves rolling in the air.
Sheng Jinyu came back from washing up and pushed open the old iron door with a creaking sound. He saw a quilt and pillow spread on the long sofa beside the bed, and Su He was kneeling on the bed with his butt sticking out, changing the sheets.
He frowned and glanced at the sofa.
It was probably made of wooden boards, with a thin cloth covering it, so it looked hard. Sheng Jinyu walked over and knocked on it, and sure enough, it made a crisp sound.
He looked up and down again. With the length-to-width ratio and the height difference, not to mention squeezing him in, half of his calf would be dragged on the ground, and if he turned over in the middle of the night, he could get a concussion.
How to sleep like this!?
Sheng Jinyu put his hands on his hips in annoyance, walked back and forth twice, and then walked over to Su He and asked, "Can people sleep on that sofa?"
Su He jumped off the bed and nodded: "It's ok to sleep in it, although it's a little small, but I sleep well, so I can just use something to block it."
"you……"
The words were choked off before they came out. Sheng Jinyu looked at him and asked, "Are you sleeping?"
Su He walked to the window and closed it, saying affirmatively: "Yes, you are not used to sleeping with others."
Sheng Jin was silent for a moment.
He simply picked up the quilt and pillow from the sofa and threw them onto the bed.
Su He was stunned, not knowing what he was going to do. He looked at him in confusion. Sheng Jinyu was inexplicably annoyed by being looked at. He turned his head away and said, "I don't have so many problems. Stop slandering me and go to bed."
It was so unlike him to be so generous. Su He smiled. There was nothing to refuse, so he happily went to bed with his pillow in his arms.
After all, he was afraid that Sheng Jinyu's spoiled young master habits would come into play. Otherwise, Su He would not sleep on the hard sofa instead of the soft bed, and he would not suffer for no reason.
When he had made the bed, there were two bright red quilts spread out on it. Under the incandescent light, they looked even more eye-catching with a bright red hue.
The more Sheng Jinyu looked at it, the more puzzled he felt. He urged Su He to turn off the lights. Su He turned off the light at the door and groped his way onto the bed in the moonlight outside the window. He got under the quilt and lay with his back to Sheng Jinyu, deliberately staying away from him.
However, both of them had been used to sleeping alone for many years, and suddenly there was another person in the bed, so they both found it difficult to sleep.
Su He stared at the bright moonlight outside the window, trying desperately to fall asleep, but then he heard Sheng Jinyu say, "When you met that kid this afternoon, why didn't you call me and go by yourself?"
He realized later that this was referring to the time when he went to rescue A Yu and asked Sheng Jin to wait for him.
However, Su He did not expect that Sheng Jin would care about this.
"I'm afraid you'll think I'm meddling in other people's business." Su He turned over and lay flat on his back.
Hearing this answer, Sheng Jinyu was a little angry. He propped up his upper body and looked at the face that he couldn't see clearly in the darkness: "Do you think that I am the kind of selfish person who only cares about profit and not life?"
"I don't think so." Su He simply turned over and met Sheng Jinyu's gaze.
He thought for a moment and said, "It's just that you were already very tired at the time, and I didn't want to drag you into the responsibility of my kindness. Besides... if I hadn't turned back and climbed over the railing on the boat, you wouldn't have fallen off."
The air fell into silence for a moment.
It was so long that Su Ke's eyes became dry. He closed his eyes and huddled into the quilt, his consciousness beginning to become confused.
"I don't blame you. What's wrong with saving people?"
Sheng Jinyu seemed to have said this, and Su He hummed in a daze and fell asleep peacefully.
The temperature dropped a little in the second half of the night. Sheng Jinyu never slept deeply. Something was pressing against his back, pushing against it. He turned over in a half-awake state, and someone came into his arms.
He was so exhausted that he didn't bother to care, so he just let the other person get closer and closer, and put his arm on the other person without even raising his eyelids.
The next morning, the back street just across the wall was already bustling with noise.
Su He felt hot and couldn't help kicking the quilt, but he kicked something warm and soft.
He opened his eyes in horror, and a small black tattoo appeared in front of him. Then Su He discovered something even more horrifying. He probably kicked Sheng Jinyu's calf.
???
Su He quickly crawled out from under the quilt. Sheng Jinyu's hand on his waist slipped down and hit the quilt. Su He's messy hair was still disheveled.
They were clearly covered with their own quilts when they were asleep, so how come they rolled into the same bed as soon as they opened their eyes?
He seemed to feel cold last night, and then he found a big stove in his dream, so he tried his best to get closer to the stove to keep warm.
Now that I think about it, that stove couldn’t be... Sheng Jinyu, right?
There was a rustling sound beside him. Su He turned around and saw Sheng Jinyu raising his arms and covering his eyes with his hands, as if he was about to wake up.
He suddenly felt guilty. Although he didn't know where the guilt came from, he just felt guilty for some unknown reason.
Su He decisively got up and put on his clothes. When he was dressed and started to put on his shoes, Sheng Jin's lazy voice suddenly came from behind him: "Is this what you call sleeping soundly?"
He lowered his head even lower, not noticing that he had tied his shoelaces into a knot, and said, "I won't do it again next time."
"There will be next time." Sheng Jin's voice was a little hoarse at the end, low and unintentionally sexy.
"It's gone, it's gone." Su He ran out as if escaping.
"Where are you going?"
"I'm going to help Aunt Zheng make breakfast."
Sheng Jinyu sat up, and the quilt slid down and piled up near his lower abdomen, revealing his strong upper body.
He raised his arm which was numbed by someone's pressure, frowned and said "tsk", and after a while he chuckled again.
The town is called Wanyang County. It is located on the border between Guangzhou and the neighboring province, in the northeast corner of the entire province. It is so small that even Sheng Jinyu has never heard of this place name.
After the disaster, Wanyang County was almost closed off, with tow trucks working back and forth on the main roads leading in and out of the county, and signal towers were also under emergency repair.
Both of their cell phones had been turned off for a long time. Su He took them out and placed them in the yard to bask in the sun, not sure if they could be saved. He remembered that Sheng Jin had work arrangements for the next two days, so he asked him with a worried look on his face what to do.
Sheng Jinyu was having breakfast at the time. He looked up at him and said, "I'm not in a hurry, why are you in a hurry?"
He was wearing a simple short-sleeved shirt and beach pants, in the most popular bright pattern in the scenic area. The tall man was curled up on the bench, but his good looks and temperament were there, giving off a paradoxical sense of humor.
Su He couldn't help laughing out loud, and he seemed to be unable to hold back his laughter.
"What are you laughing at?" Sheng Jinyu stared at him seriously.
Su He looked at Sheng Jin and the SpongeBob SquarePants on his pants, and couldn't stop laughing. He quickly covered his face and turned away, his voice trembling: "Sorry... I... won't laugh anymore..."
Looking at his shaking shoulders, Sheng Jinyu frowned and looked down at himself. Of course, he also saw the cartoon pattern on his pants that was laughing heartlessly.
He snorted and said in a cold tone, "Do you think your red shorts look that good?"
Su He lowered his head and tugged at his bright red shorts, grinning at him: "I think it looks pretty good, festive."
Sheng Jinyu: "..."
He was completely choked. He looked at Su He repeatedly several times. After confirming that he was sincere in what he said, Sheng Jinyu shook his head and said, "How can someone have such a high level of aesthetic tolerance?"
Su He continued to laugh heartlessly and sat down to eat with him. Just as he picked up the chopsticks, his arm was suddenly grabbed by someone.
Sheng Jinyu looked at the irregular bruises on his wrist and said, "Tsk, was I that strong?"
The bruises weren't large, but the spots were deep purple. Su He nodded honestly, "Yeah, I felt like my wrist was going to break."
Just before Sheng Jinyu was about to explode, he added, "But I know you were trying to save me. If you hadn't held on tighter, I might have died."
It sounded like Sheng Jinyu had done something great.
He spoke so directly that Sheng Jinyu was speechless. She let go of his hand and looked away: "It's good that you know."
After breakfast, the sun was shining brightly.
Aunt Zheng was busy in the kitchen again. She brought out a calf-high thermos bucket filled with porridge. Su He stepped forward to help load it onto the tricycle, which also had a basket of full glutinous rice cakes and steamed rice.
Ayu came running over wearing a small straw hat. The lively child, who was in his early teens, greeted them excitedly: "Brother Ahe! Brother Ayu! Good morning!"
"More than a dozen houses on the shore were washed away. The neighbors who went to help rescue people were so busy that they had no time to eat. It happened that we couldn't go out to sea these few days, so I made some food and sent it over to Ayu." Aunt Zheng said.
"I..." Su He paused after opening his mouth and looked back at Sheng Jinyu. The latter seemed to know what he wanted to say and nodded.
Su He smiled and said to Aunt Zheng, "We'll go help too."
At first, Aunt Zheng was still trying to refuse, saying that kids from big cities couldn't do this kind of work, but she couldn't resist Su Ke's enthusiasm, so the group pushed the cart onto the street.
