Transmigrator Ning Yu relies on his special abilities and a system to survive on Earth after a nuclear war. He meets the older, alluring Mu Xue and confronts hypocritical ability organizations, ult...
"This chasm... is bottomless." Ning Yu's voice was low, carrying an undisguised shock. The stone thrown in seemed to be swallowed up, without even a sound, only a chilling silence.
Mu Xue's face turned pale. She unconsciously took a step back and gripped Ning Yu's arm tightly. "What do we do? We can't get through!"
Ning Yu gently patted the back of her hand, signaling her to calm down. "Don't panic, there's always a way." He walked to the edge of the stone beam again, squinting as he carefully observed it. The stone beam was barely wide enough for one person to pass through, but the surface was slippery, and there were bottomless abysses on both sides; a slight misstep could send one tumbling down.
“This stone beam… I’m afraid it won’t last much longer.” Mu Xue pointed to the bottom of the stone beam, where fine cracks had already appeared, as if it would break at any moment.
Ning Yu noticed this as well, his heart growing even heavier. They were now like people trapped on a deserted island, unable to move forward or backward. He moved slowly along the edge of the chasm, trying to find another way to cross. The chasm walls were steep and smooth, as if polished by some immense force, offering no foothold whatsoever. Occasionally, there were some protruding rocks, but they were severely weathered and crumbled at the slightest touch, providing no leverage whatsoever.
"It seems we'll have to find another way." Ning Yu sighed, abandoning the idea of climbing. He looked around, his gaze falling on the other side of the chasm. The terrain on the other side seemed gentler than on this side; if he could get across, perhaps he could find a way out.
"Look over there!" Mu Xue suddenly pointed in a direction, her tone tinged with surprise. "It seems a bit narrower over there!"
Ning Yu followed her finger and saw that, sure enough, about a hundred meters away from them, the chasm seemed to have narrowed. Although it was still bottomless, the distance between the two banks looked much shorter.
"Let's go take a look." Ning Yu made a quick decision and carefully walked along the edge of the ravine in that direction. Mu Xue followed closely behind, and the two dared not make any loud noise, for fear of disturbing some unknown danger.
The closer they got, the more they felt the treacherous nature of the chasm. A thin mist hung in the air at the bottom, obscuring their vision and adding to the mystery and fear. When they reached a relatively narrow section, Ning Yu estimated the distance to be about five meters. Five meters might not be much for an ordinary person, but across this bottomless chasm, it was an insurmountable obstacle.
"I'll try to jump over it." Ning Yu took a deep breath and stretched his muscles.
"No! It's too dangerous!" Mu Xue grabbed him, anxiously trying to dissuade him. "What if..."
Ning Yu gently pried her hands away, his eyes resolute. "Trust me, I'll be alright." He took a few steps back, preparing to leap forward.
Just then, a rustling sound came from behind... Mu Xue's face changed drastically, and she shouted in terror, "Ning Yu! Be careful!"
Ning Yu whirled around and saw countless dark green vines, like venomous snakes, winding their way from behind the stone beam at an astonishing speed. They writhed wildly, emitting a chilling rustling sound, as if they wanted to devour everything in their path.
"Damn it!" Ning Yu cursed under his breath. He hadn't expected these vines to be so troublesome. With a chasm in front and pursuers behind, they were in a desperate situation.
"Hurry!" Ning Yu grabbed Mu Xue and ran towards the narrower part of the ditch. The vines were incredibly fast, almost chasing after them.
"No! It's too late!" Mu Xue's voice trembled as she could feel the icy aura of the vines almost touching her.
At this critical moment, Mu Xue's gaze suddenly fell on the rock wall of the chasm. "Ning Yu, look!" she pointed at the rock wall, her tone carrying a hint of surprise and a desperate gamble.
Ning Yu followed her gaze and saw irregular protrusions distributed on the gray-black rock wall, like naturally formed footholds. These protrusions were not obvious and were almost invisible in the dim light. Moreover, the distance between them was quite far, requiring extremely strong jumping ability and arm strength to reach them.
"This..." A hint of hesitation flashed in Ning Yu's eyes. This was undoubtedly a high-stakes gamble; a slight misstep could plunge him into an abyss.
The rustling of the vines grew closer, almost right next to their ears. Several vines had already reached out from the edge of the stone beam and were coiling towards them.
"There's no time to hesitate!" Mu Xue gritted her teeth, her eyes filled with determination. "I have no choice but to take this gamble!"
Ning Yu took a deep breath. He knew there was no turning back now. It was either a risky gamble or he would perish here; there was no other choice.
He carefully observed the protrusions on the rock face, estimated the distance and height between them, and quickly formulated a plan in his mind.
"I'll go first, you follow behind me," Ning Yu said in a deep voice, his tone firm and decisive.
Mu Xue didn't speak, but held his hand tightly, her eyes filled with trust and worry.
Ning Yu gently patted the back of her hand, reassuring her. He took a few steps back, his gaze fixed on a promontory on the opposite bank. It was the closest foothold, their only hope.
The vines had already wrapped around their ankles, and the icy touch sent chills down their spines.
"Jump!" Mu Xue shouted, using almost all her strength.
Without hesitation, Ning Yu pushed off the ground, his body shooting forward like an arrow, leaping towards the protrusion on the opposite bank. The wind whistled in his ears, and below lay a bottomless abyss of darkness. He reached out, his fingertips almost touching the protrusion…
"Hold on!" Mu Xue's voice came from behind, trembling with anxiety.
Ning Yu's fingertips touched the protrusion; the rough rock rubbed against his skin, providing a tangible sensation. He gritted his teeth, gripping tightly with his fingers, his body suspended in mid-air, below him a bottomless darkness that made him dizzy. A cold wind howled past, making his clothes flutter loudly. He took a deep breath, adjusting his balance, and then carefully reached up with his other hand.
