A deep blue light illuminated the center of the underground space, where a huge, pulsating...heart resided.
It was bigger than a truck, its surface covered with thick veins that throbbed rhythmically, making a deep "thump-thump" sound. Each beat seemed to strike Ning Yu and Mu Xue's hearts.
The fishy-sweet smell emanated from here, so strong it was nauseating.
Before they could recover from their shock, a gust of wind howled past and tore the enormous heart apart!
Blood and flesh flew everywhere, and the eerie blue light went out, plunging the underground space into darkness.
Ning Yu quickly pulled Mu Xue behind a rock, where the foul-smelling liquid splashed around them, making a sizzling, corrosive sound.
The wind stopped.
When Ning Yu and Mu Xue peeked out from behind the rock, they found that the heart had disappeared, leaving only a pool of dark red blood on the ground.
The strange wind that had been blowing at the cave entrance had also disappeared.
"This..." Mu Xue's face turned pale, and she covered her mouth, almost vomiting.
Ning Yu frowned as he picked up the stone shard that had fallen to the ground, his mind filled with doubt.
What kind of creature has this heart?
What was that wind?
What is the connection between the two?
Just as he was pondering, another faint breeze blew in from the depths of the cave, carrying a hint of coolness.
“This wind…” Ning Yu squinted, sensing the direction of the wind, “is coming from deeper inside.”
"Should we go in?" Mu Xue's voice trembled slightly; the scene she had just witnessed had left a deep shadow on her.
Ning Yu looked in the direction the wind was blowing, a determined glint in his eyes. "This wind is different from the one before. Perhaps, following it will lead to the answer."
Mu Xue bit her lip, but finally nodded. She knew that following Ning Yu was the safest option.
They followed the wind out of the cave and found that it was already dark outside.
The wind grew stronger, rustling the surrounding trees.
Giant footprints appeared on the ground, each larger than their bodies, with bizarre shapes, like those left by some kind of giant reptile.
“These footprints…” Mu Xue pointed to the footprints on the ground, a sense of unease rising in her heart.
Ning Yu didn't speak, but gripped the stone shard in his hand tightly, cautiously observing his surroundings.
They continued walking, but the wind grew stronger and stronger, almost blowing them over.
Suddenly, Ning Yu stopped in his tracks.
“Wait a minute…” he said in a low voice, “Something feels off…”
Mu Xue also sensed it.
Ning Yu felt his body become very heavy, as if something was suppressing his movements.
Mu Xue felt the same way; their steps became slower and slower, each step feeling like wading through a swamp.
The air became thick and breathing became difficult, as if an invisible hand was gripping their throats.
"What's going on?" Mu Xue's voice was a little hoarse. She breathed heavily, but felt that she was inhaling only a heavy pressure.
Ning Yu did not answer; he was also trying his best to fight against this inexplicable pressure.
He tried to activate his supernatural abilities, but found that they were frozen and he couldn't activate them at all.
This force is not directed at superpowers, but rather acts on them as a kind of domain suppression.
As they continued forward, the surrounding light grew dimmer, as if something was devouring it.
They could only grope their way forward with faint intuition, and everything around them became blurry.
The trees' outlines were twisted and deformed, like a group of menacing monsters, ready to devour them at any moment.
"Ah!" Mu Xue suddenly cried out. She had accidentally bumped into something hard and was in pain, so she covered her forehead.
"What's wrong?" Ning Yu quickly helped her up.
"I bumped into... something..." Mu Xue's voice was tinged with pain as she reached out to touch it, her fingertips brushing against a cold, smooth surface.
Ning Yu also reached out to touch it, and it felt like a wall, but it didn't feel like stone or metal. It felt more like the skin of some kind of... creature.
He felt a chill run down his spine and immediately became alert.
"Watch out!" He grabbed Mu Xue and took a few steps back.
Just then, all the light around them disappeared, and they were plunged into complete darkness.
It was pitch black; they could only hear each other's rapid breathing.
“Ning Yu…” Mu Xue’s voice was tinged with fear as she gripped Ning Yu’s arm tightly.
Ning Yu wanted to light a lamp, but after searching for a long time, he couldn't find one.
He then realized that the lighting equipment had been damaged at some point, perhaps during the impact.
"Damn it!" Ning Yu cursed under his breath, a sense of powerlessness rising in his heart.
They were trapped in this darkness, and the source of the mysterious wind seemed to be very far away...
"It seems... something... is getting closer..." Mu Xue's voice trembled as she clung tightly to Ning Yu, as if only in this way could she gain a sense of security.
Ning Yu sensed a chilling aura approaching. He gripped the stone shard in his hand tightly, preparing for battle.
“Don’t be afraid…” he whispered, “I’m here…”
Suddenly, he felt something touch his back... sticky, slippery...
The sticky sensation made Ning Yu's hair stand on end. He turned around abruptly and swung the stone shard in his hand, but only managed to cut through the air.
The thing seemed to be just an invisible shadow, which disappeared quickly after being touched.
