Chapter 52 Severing Relationships 2

Lin Wanwan spent the whole morning in meetings, but thankfully the matter was resolved. She packed up her things and prepared to leave work, only to see Gu Bei already standing at the door.

"Brother, what brings you here?"

"I'm here to pick you up. Lu Feng is still busy. Tuanzi and Xiaohai have already gone home."

He Lanhua laughed and said, "How lucky you are! Someone picks you up after get off work and drops you off at work."

"Then I see my brother-in-law has to criticize him. Is he making you unhappy?"

He Lanhua blushed and slapped her, "What nonsense are you talking about!"

Lin Wanwan followed Gu Bei with a smile. Only after they had gone some distance did she ask him, "Did something happen at home?"

"You could even guess that?" Gu Bei looked down at her.

"Your expression changed yesterday when you mentioned the capital. Did your uncle bully you?"

"How can he be my uncle? You call me brother, isn't he your uncle?"

Lin Wanwan looked up and said with a smile, "He bullied you, he's not my uncle."

Gu Bei rubbed her head, didn't say anything, and sighed for a long time before saying, "Mom, you didn't lie to me, you are really smart."

"So what happened? If you don't tell me, how am I supposed to cheer Mom up later?"

Gu Bei laughed immediately, "How did you know I wanted you to try and persuade Mom?"

"Because I have a sweet tongue, and Xu's mother loves me the most, so naturally she listens to me."

"It's a long story, let's take it slow and I'll tell you."

Lin Wanwan nodded to indicate that she had no objection and slowed down to follow him.

After hearing the whole story, Lin Wanwan looked incredulous. "Xu's mother doesn't seem like the type to compromise. How could she be so foolish? Your uncle could keep things hidden for ten years for his own sake. He's no ordinary person. He's cunning and ruthless. Even when your grandfather disowned him, he endured it for eight years, only returning with people to beg for forgiveness when your cousin was eight. If your cousin were younger, he would be more concerned if he got sick. But if he's older, it won't be as effective. He's very calculating; every move he makes is carefully planned. We should cut off contact with this kind of person immediately."

Lin Wanwan looked around and, seeing that no one was around, whispered, "Besides, his job won't last much longer. Even if you don't cut ties, you should stay away from him and avoid getting into trouble."

Gu Bei raised an eyebrow at her. "Do you think the Revolutionary Committee will be abolished?"

Lin Wanwan paused for a moment, "Removing him is a minor matter. If it were another department that was removed, the interpersonal relationships would still be there, and it wouldn't be too difficult to do anything. But the Revolutionary Committee has offended a lot of people, let alone going back ten years. Do you think those people will let him go? He has such a high position. Do you think he can have a good ending? But it's better not to tell Xu's mother, lest she softens her heart and ask you to help her again. You are much more important than him. I don't care whether he lives or dies."

Gu Bei stared at her without saying a word, making Lin Wanwan feel uneasy under his gaze. "What? Do you think I'm cold-blooded?"

Lin Wanwan thought he was being unreasonable and wanted to continue to persuade him, "He treated your mother so badly before, he didn't care about the past at all. He read the letters and knew your mother's situation, but he still hid the letters for ten years without hesitation. Moreover, I guess he didn't hand them over voluntarily. With his selfish and self-serving personality, he wouldn't cause himself such big trouble. Your maternal grandparents have long given up on your mother's disappearance for ten years. If your mother continues to remain missing, then all of your maternal grandparents' property will be his."

"Have you thought about these things? Your maternal grandparents must have been quite wealthy. Very few families can remain unaffected by the tides of history. Although I don't know what your maternal grandparents did, they certainly weren't an ordinary family."

Gu Bei had naturally thought about the letter, but he didn't want to upset his mother, so he didn't want to pursue the matter at all. Sometimes being confused isn't a bad thing, but his uncle's family really went too far, otherwise Gu Bei wouldn't have chosen to tell Xu Zhang and hurt her.

“You’re really smart. I’ve also guessed about the letter, but I didn’t want to upset my mom again, so I never asked my grandparents.”

"But if you keep this from your mother, she will be even more heartbroken if your uncle implicates you in the future. Don't adults always say that you shouldn't just look at the immediate gains and losses, but should have a long-term perspective? Besides, some feelings can't be obtained by compromising. The things your uncle did clearly show that he didn't treat you as family. You're more like a shield."

"Then what do you think I should do?" Gu Bei sighed and asked her.

“If it were me, I would cut the Gordian knot. Go and act crazy at your maternal grandparents’ place now. While they feel guilty towards Xu Mama, cut all ties with your uncle’s family as soon as possible. Your maternal grandparents should do the same, otherwise they will be implicated and retaliated against sooner or later.”

Gu Bei sighed again, "But Grandpa and Grandma will be sad again."

“If I had been disappointed long ago, I wouldn’t be this heartbroken. Your grandparents know your uncle better than you and Xu’s mother do. They just don’t say anything for the sake of the family.”

"You're so smart; you see things more clearly than any of us."

Lin Wanwan said with an air of composure, "It's not that you can't see clearly, it's just that you're in the thick of it, so naturally you can't see clearly. I'm an outsider, and the only people I have feelings for are you, so I can see it more clearly."

Gu Bei patted her head. "Let's go home, or my mom will worry."

Lin Wanwan squinted and rubbed against his hand. Gu Bei found it amusing, "Are you a puppy?"

"No, I'm just a cute little girl."

"Hahahahahahaha," Gu Bei laughed uncontrollably, "You're married now, why are you still calling yourself a little girl?"

"You're retaliating against me!"

Lu Feng heard Gu Bei's laughter from afar and quickened his pace to walk over. He then heard Lin Wanwan call out to him, "Honey, my brother is bullying me. Can you beat him?"
