After Turning Around, I Exploded in the Legal Circle

Ten years in Huating have been turbulent, with behind-the-scenes capital always omnipresent. Beneath the calm surface, undercurrents always churn; lights flicker on and off, and human affairs ebb a...

Chapter 57 Court Proceedings

Fan Jing leaned weakly against the back of the chair, her voice low and hoarse, her face deathly pale.

"Judge Jiang, please don't make me leave. I won't act impulsively."

Judge Jiang was quite old, with gray hair. Perhaps because she was also a mother, she felt a touch of sympathy for the plaintiff. She looked up at the plaintiff and nodded to the bailiff.

The bailiff standing next to her released her hands and turned back to stand in the aisle.

"Plaintiff's attorney, please continue your statement!"

Judge Jiang tapped his gavel and looked toward the plaintiff's seat.

Qin Suisui breathed a sigh of relief when she saw that Fan Jing's emotions had gradually calmed down.

What I fear most is teammates who hand bricks to the opponent regardless of the situation; thankfully, they haven't completely lost their minds.

She glanced at the judge and the court clerk, and gave them a slight smile.

"Your Honorable Judge and Clerk, most of you here are parents, and you must all be able to feel the warmth and concern of blood ties. Please put yourselves in my shoes. If it were your child, whom you have carefully nurtured for ten years, were to be found out to be not your own, I believe no one could accept it calmly."

She looked at the representative from Jingzhou Hospital sitting in the defendant's dock.

"Our leaders at Jingzhou Hospital can be so heartless and irresponsible as to tell the plaintiffs, Fan Jing and Han Cheng, that since they have raised them for ten years, they are no different from their own children, and there is no need to make such a fuss."

"I want to ask the defendants, do you have even a shred of empathy?"

"As a public hospital, do you still have professional ethics?"

“I object to the statements just made by the plaintiff’s lawyer; they are completely misleading to the court.”

Seeing Judge Jiang's furrowed brows, the defendant's lawyer immediately stood up to object.

Judge Jiang looked up and said, "The objection is valid. Does the plaintiff's lawyer have any further evidence or witnesses to provide?"

"I have two more documents here. Please have the judge and court clerk review them."

Qin Suisui turned to look at Yue Hongxin.

"Assistant Yue, bring the two testimonies and documents provided by Jingzhou Hospital to the court."

"What happened?"

The defendant's lawyer turned his head and asked in a low voice.

What information did you provide to the other party?

Yuan Hao leaned forward to look at the lawyer, his expression slightly puzzled and his voice hesitant.

"The document we provided is the one we discussed with Attorney Wang that day."

"Are you sure?"

Wang Jieming felt a vague unease. Before the trial, he had investigated Sheffield of the Law Offices of R.R. Dunn, and he knew that she was incapable of providing such useless evidence.

A sudden inspiration struck him.

"When the plaintiff first contacted you, did you provide any other evidence?"

Yuan Hao paused, then said, "No, I don't know."

He quickly explained, "When Parker contacted the hospital, I wasn't the one who received him."

"Parker?"

Wang Jieming's expression changed: "Did you provide Parker with any information back then?"

"have no idea!"

"Then what do you know?"

Wang Jieming was so angry he almost slammed his fist on the table, his face turning ashen instantly.

Who was in charge at the time?

Yuan Hao was startled by Wang Jieming's expression. He thought for a moment with a heavy heart, "It's Cheng Wei from the Dean's Office, but he has already resigned."

Yuan Hao's expression of complete ignorance angered Wang Jieming.

"Director Yuan, such an important matter, how come no one from your Jingzhou Hospital mentioned it to me, and no one followed up on it?"

He was slightly out of breath: "When I received the letter of authorization from your Jingzhou Hospital, didn't I ask you what you said at the time?...

The defendant's heated argument still caught Judge Jiang's attention in court, and she tapped her gavel.

"Silence!"

Wang Jieming paused, gave Yuan Hao a cold glance, and sat back down.

He stared ahead, watching Judge Jiang and the court clerk verifying each other's documents, whispering among themselves, and occasionally pointing towards the defendant's seat.

Seeing Judge Jiang's expression, Wang Jieming realized that they were doomed to lose the case.

Sure enough, before he could react, Judge Jiang picked up the gavel.

"The defendant, Jingzhou Hospital, stated that the plaintiff has provided two new pieces of evidence, accusing the defendant of providing false or fabricated evidence during the plaintiff's lawyer's evidence collection process."

"Defendant's lawyer, do you have any new evidence?"

Wang Jieming quickly weighed the pros and cons in his mind. He stood up and bowed towards the courtroom: "Your Honor and the Clerk, we would like to see two new pieces of evidence provided by the plaintiff's lawyer."

Judge Jiang: "Yes."

Wang Jieming flipped through the new evidence provided by the plaintiff that he had received from the court clerk, and the more he looked, the angrier he became.

After reading it, he handed the document to Yuan Hao and said in a low voice, suppressing his anger.

"Director Yuan, take a look at the stupid things you've done."

Yuan Hao took the document with surprise and doubt. After flipping through a few pages, he understood why Lawyer Wang was so furious. The information provided by their hospital at different times pointed to completely different directions.

"So what do we do now?"

He closed the document and looked at Wang Lu cautiously.

"What to do? Humph!"

Wang Jieming cursed under his breath, calling him an idiot.

The two pieces of evidence corroborate each other, proving that Jingzhou Hospital was indeed fabricating evidence. If their hospital were not a public hospital, Judge Jiang might have directly delivered the verdict instead of giving them a chance to explain and defend themselves.

He stood up and looked towards the courtroom.

"Your Honors and Court Clerk, we are unable to determine the authenticity and validity of the new evidence submitted by the plaintiff. We are now applying to the court for an authentication of the evidence. We will continue the litigation after the authentication results are available."

"Plaintiffs, do you have any further comments on the demands made by the defendants?"
