Chapter 168 The Hidden One

Thanks to his 'regeneration' ability, the wound on Huggins' throat gradually healed, but the weakness and exhaustion caused by the rampant bleeding forced him to sit on the ground, panting heavily.

After a short rest, Huggins counted the men, and the enormous losses almost made him unable to believe his eyes—six dead. All the fallen had died in the chaos, by the swords of their own kind. This included even a 'melee inheritor' whose 'regeneration' and 'metal skin' abilities could not stop the 'Dragon Bone's' blade from delivering a fatal blow to the head.

“By God the Father! There were only two of them!” Harkins slowly removed his helmet, letting the limbs of the ‘Dragonbone’ parasite writhe and twist above his head. The knight was pale and dejected: “How am I supposed to explain all this to Lord Todd…”

Who are these two damn bastards?

With these questions in mind, Huggins sighed and walked around, observing everything in the room, trying to find some valuable information. Finally, he focused his attention on the alien that had been killed before it could escape.

After searching the deceased's body, besides some coins, Huggins found a hand-drawn map and an unfinished letter with still-wet ink. The map marked important buildings in Muxi Town, such as the Knights' headquarters, the biochemical factory, and the church, while the letter contained the following words:

"The mission in Twilight Town needs to be temporarily put on hold. We've received news of a more serious rebellion at the Relief Society. Lord Jerome has decided that he will lead 31, 34, and 55 to the Relief Society, while 86 and I will stay behind at the base..."

After repeatedly examining the map and letters to make sure nothing was missing, Huggins turned the body face down and back up, tore open the tattered clothes, and wiped the bloodstains from the back with a cloth. He then saw a strange tattoo.

The deceased had a lifelike eagle tattooed on his back. The outer outline was made with special red ink, while the inner lines were made with a strange gold thread, which was hand-stitched deep into the skin to form the Roman numeral '89'.
