Chapter 249 Deep-Sea Beacon

The turbulent ocean currents pull any object that falls into them rapidly toward the depths of the sea.

Under the pull of this force, Todd's body was completely unable to resist and was drawn into the center of the vortex.

From sea level to a depth of about 200 meters, the whirlpool moves the fastest. In just three minutes, Todd descended to the bottom of this area.

During this time, following the rotation of the whirlpool, he could vaguely see the faint sunlight in the seawater.

Schools of fish and small creatures swam around him, while floating algae drifted downstream with the eddies.

After sinking for another ten minutes or so, Todd clearly felt the light in the seawater gradually weaken, and common marine creatures were nowhere to be seen. With his 'night vision' ability, he saw all sorts of strange creatures emitting light, filling the area around the whirlpool. There was a huge, striped sea serpent with cold, glowing spots all over its body, a strange fish with spikes all over its body and a small light on its head, and a moray eel whose mouth took up almost half of its body.

Dragged further into the ocean's depths by the whirlpool, even their night vision ability was losing effectiveness. The pressure of the seawater was equivalent to a thousand kilograms per square centimeter.

Todd felt every inch of his skin, every bone, and every organ cracking. Even his mutated body was as fragile as paper under the immense pressure of the seawater.

However, the pain did not come as expected.

Perhaps the supernatural ability of 'pain suppression' is at work, or perhaps the mutation has already taken over the nerve center responsible for pain.

After diving down for another ten minutes or so, with the help of his barely perceptible night vision, Todd looked at the extremely dark seabed in front of him.

A group of colorful jellyfish, their roots stretching for tens of meters, swam by gracefully.

A gigantic eye slowly emerged from the darkness, surveying everything in the sea. Todd's tiny figure looked like a bean next to an apple compared to that eye.

As the enormous eyeball in the dark sea drew closer and closer, and its massive tentacles spread like a forest in the shadows, Todd finally recognized the creature—the sea monster that destroyed the Black Pearl.

It was an unimaginably enormous figure, slowly moving forward in the pitch-black sea.

Todd examined it carefully and concluded that the sea monster's length was likely greater than that of an ordinary town. In terms of appearance, it resembled a mutated hybrid of a beluga whale and a giant squid, completely unlike the mythical "Demon Eye."

Without fear or panic, Todd calmly gazed at the deep-sea behemoth. A smile played on his lips; death, for him, was no longer suffering, but a release.

To his surprise, the giant beast passed by him, glanced at him briefly, and then quickly looked away, swimming deeper into the ocean.

"So it's because of my mutated body that the monsters have lost interest in my flesh and blood?"

With this thought in mind, Todd continued his descent, drawn by the vortex.

Now, Todd can no longer remember how long or how far he has been underwater; the concepts of time and space seem to be getting further and further away from him.

His vision was completely black, and even his night vision ability was useless. All he knew was that his body was still falling, as if this road would never end.

He had never hated his powers as much as he did now. If it weren't for his abilities like "metal skin," "regeneration," and "underwater breathing," he would have already perished in the nothingness of death, instead of being left with no end in sight.

The only thing that gave him any solace was that the overwhelming pain brought on by the mutation was slowly fading away. In its place was the gradual separation of his body and soul.

At such a deep sea level, he wasn't sure if his hearing was still functioning properly, but he did "hear" some sounds.

Some faint, elusive sounds.

Some sounds like a woman's murmur, some like a child's laughter, and some are just completely meaningless noise.

What bothered Todd was that he seemed to hear Clarence's voice.

The voice no longer held the pride and arrogance of the past; it was filled only with hysterical cries for help and screams.

The sinking continues.

A while later.

The seawater before my eyes was no longer black, but a color deeper than black.

If Todd had to describe the space he was in with a single word, it would be more like a black hole that could seize all light and matter.

Just as Todd was being driven to the brink of madness by this eerie feeling, the downward pull of the vortex slowly disappeared.

He could feel that his body had stopped falling and was now suspended in the seabed.

A massive, straight building rose from the depths of the sea to stand before him.

It was a familiar, triangular metal spire covered in strange writing.

As the patterned light appeared on the surface of the spire, Todd completely lost consciousness.

When he awoke again, he found himself in a magnificent and beautiful temple.

The temple lies beneath the sea. Todd looks up and sees the warm sunlight streaming into the ocean, casting beautiful reflections on the stone slabs. Schools of fish and shrimp dart among the pillars, while coral and seashells adorn the walls. A clear, sparkling fountain cascades down into the temple's garden.

A pure white dolphin leaped and frolicked on the surface of the sea, like a butterfly swimming and playing among the corals. Finally, it stopped in front of Todd and clearly uttered the words: "Candidate, welcome back to the Agent's room."

"You are Crystal Constellation...?" Todd sighed, rubbed his cheeks hard, sat down on the spot, and shook his head with a smile, saying, "The Land of Shadows... the Gate of Darkness... the Trial of Fate, it turns out that the end of everything has returned to this beacon."

The dolphin nodded gently: "The location of this beacon is not easy to reach. But compared to the beacon at the North Island ruins, the energy here is more stable and will not deplete."

Todd looked at the sea temple beside him and asked, "Who built this... structure?"

"This is the eternal throne established by the Danu gods."

"Let me guess, were the Danu gods in Northern mythology once members of the Crystal Nest agents?"

The dolphin circled in place: "That's right, they defeated the other candidates and ushered in their own era."

Todd said meaningfully, "However, their fate seems much better than that of another agent—Odin, the king of the gods."

The dolphin tilted its head and looked at Todd: "Candidate, I know what you're trying to say; I also know you've seen those runic tablets. You believe we are the culprits who caused Ragnarok. But is it really as simple as you think?"

Todd stood up from the ground, staring at the dolphin, and said, "What exactly do you mean by that?"

“I gave Odin strength and wisdom, but his actions have violated the agreement I made with him.”
