An associate professor in life engineering travels to a medieval European fantasy world. Using modern biochemistry, he discovers that viruses, bacteria, and parasites extinct in human history are a...
Alfonso brought a large amount of aid supplies, including 20 tons of food, 10 boxes of medicine, 150 canvas tents, weapons and arrows, living supplies and building materials, as well as 27 royal guards under Todd and their exotic warhorses.
The mountain of food and supplies in the center of the ruins left the gladiators and tribal people speechless.
Under the watchful eyes of the well-equipped and heavily guarded knights, no one dared to touch these items, until Todd, who had returned from the Soul Space, shouted to everyone, "What are you all standing around for?! Hurry up and move the stuff!"
The knights turned their gaze to their commander, Alfonso, whose keel was covered in parasites that made a rattling sound like a rattlesnake, but he merely nodded slightly.
The knights moved their feet and shifted their bodies, no longer blocking the passage for transporting supplies.
Seeing the gladiators and their people begin to organize supplies, Todd pulled Rachel, Ackerman, Casper, Fried, and Minnie into the soul space and began to assign them a series of tasks.
The figures of the group appeared in the underground temple. Todd sat on the throne and waved his hand to display the overall plan of the Froststone Tribe in a 3D projection.
“Before winter comes, repair the wooden houses here. Also, build four watchtowers at the corners of the basin.” Todd gestured with his hands in the air, using motion controls to zoom in and rotate the 3D map: “Other functional areas don’t need to be built for now. A batch of cement will be delivered to the tribe soon. At that time, all the existing wooden buildings will be replaced with cement buildings.”
Ackerman asked, completely bewildered, "Cement?"
Todd rubbed his temples: "You don't need to worry about what cement is for now. In short, it's a very convenient building material."
Turning to the old barbarian warrior Fried, Todd said, "There's still some time before winter. Fried, gather some people familiar with the area and bring those refugees and scattered residents into the Froststone tribe."
Todd then turned his gaze to the old shaman Minnie: "The gathering and management of the tribe will be in your hands."
Seeing the old woman smile and nod, Todd breathed a sigh of relief, then said to Ackerman, "You have experience in managing villages, so I'm entrusting you with the task of rebuilding the camp. Organize all available personnel and build shelters for the residents as soon as possible before winter arrives, ensuring they won't be exposed to the elements."
Kasper was left out last, and Todd said to him, "The gladiators have always lived in the 'Red Circle.' They are neither soldiers nor civilians, but a special and unstable group. Kasper, you are reliable, bold, and meticulous. I need you to keep an eye on the gladiators' every move and make sure that this group doesn't encounter any problems."
Kasper suddenly said, "Lord Boyle, speaking of gladiators, there is a problem at present."
"Please feel free to speak."
"Many gladiators, since escaping the 'Red Circle,' are eager to return home and reunite with their families. Although the heavy snow has blocked the roads and made travel difficult, no one can guarantee that these people will not risk going back."
Todd pondered for a moment, then looked at Casper and said in a deep voice, "I'm afraid you haven't finished speaking. What you really want to say is that many gladiators, once they leave, never come back."
Casper lowered his head, his voice devoid of any emotion: "That is indeed possible."
Todd leaned back in his seat, closed his eyes, and pondered for a moment before saying, "I'll figure something out about this."
Upon hearing this, Casper fell silent.
Todd clapped his hands vigorously, pointed to Rachel beside him, and said to the other four, "Let me introduce you. This woman is named Rachel. She is my assistant and my agent. She will be in charge of coordinating the relationship between the gladiators, the tribe, and the force you saw while I am away."
Ackerman was taken aback, then quickly asked, "What do you mean by 'not'?!"
"I have to go to a faraway place and may not be able to return for a while. But I will keep in touch with you all. Every day at sunset, I will gather you here to arrange and handle matters."
Fried took a step forward and said to Todd in a pleading tone, "But we need you here!"
The latter sighed: "They need me there too..."
Looking at the bustling construction scene in the camp and listening to the laughter and chatter around him, Todd sat on a large rock, carefully considering his next move.
“You assigned work to everyone in this camp, but you forgot one person.”
Todd turned to look at Rachel, who was walking towards him, with a puzzled expression: "Who?"
Rachel gestured with her chin toward a spot not far away, and Todd looked in the direction she pointed. A sorrowful woman dressed in a black robe came into his view.
"She betrayed her master and her people; there is probably no place for her in this world anymore."
Hearing Rachel's words, Todd's head began to throb again: "You need to understand one thing, the reason she did this is because of Boyle!"
Rachel pretended to look around, then asked with feigned confusion, "Boyle? Is there anyone else named Boyle besides you?"
“This is deception!” Todd said sharply to Rachel in a low voice.
The latter looked him in the eye and retorted sharply, "In my opinion, this behavior is called benevolence."
