An associate professor in life engineering travels to a medieval European fantasy world. Using modern biochemistry, he discovers that viruses, bacteria, and parasites extinct in human history are a...
Sutherland: "That's a good idea, but you're not familiar with the rules of the Soul Space. Other souls can only freely enter it while the Soul Space holder is alive. I was burned at the stake before my family died. So, I can only use my necromancy to find their souls after that."
Todd: "Okay, one more thing, why do you insist on choosing this extremely risky method of soul wandering? Why can't you be reborn again, enter a new human body, and then tell the elders that this person is the reincarnation of Sutherland? Wouldn't that be safer?"
Sutherland: "Once you enter the rebirth channel, your soul will be restricted by your body again. All your memories and abilities will be weakened or even reset. For example, most of the memories from your hundreds of rebirths will be lost and can only be slowly awakened during your growth; and the abilities related to your soul will become unusable because you will be in a different body. I have done so much preparation beforehand, and I don't want to be reborn again, as that would disrupt my plans."
Todd frowned: "You want to retain your previous memories and abilities while getting a new body; therefore, the Elders' Soul Ritual has become your only option."
Sutherland: "The resurrection worms, the tyrant, and all the ritual procedures are secret arts passed down and preserved over thousands of years. Everything should have gone smoothly, except for one thing, which was beyond my expectations..."
Todd: "Necromancer..."
Sutherland nodded helplessly: "I never expected that the Resurrection Worm would become such a troublesome thing after being modified by the Tyrant. The harm caused by the undead has far exceeded my expectations... There must be something wrong at some point, something I didn't notice."
Todd still held onto a sliver of hope: "But you still have a way to control the undead, right?"
Sutherland slowly shook his head, much to Todd's disappointment.
Sutherland: "The undead have become intertwined with the world beneath our feet; they have infiltrated every corner, and now it has become extremely difficult to eliminate them..."
Todd sighed and casually remarked, "So what are you planning to do? Just surrender and use your rebirth again to escape to somewhere else...?"
Todd noticed Sutherland's drastic change in expression and a very bad feeling suddenly arose in his heart: "Your real purpose is not to abandon everything here and escape to another place, is it?"
Sutherland stood up: "Perhaps we should end this conversation."
Todd grabbed Sutherland and yelled, "You're not going to run away halfway through your sentence this time!"
"Let me guess! When the undead appeared, your plans to win the War of the Chosen were completely disrupted. At that time, you had already made up your mind to leave here and start over in a new world."
Todd analyzed as he spoke, "But there are a few questions. First, where do you plan to escape this necromantic calamity? Second, even if you choose a location, how will you achieve this transfer? Rebirth? Does that mean you have to give up your memories and abilities? Is there any other way? Third, why are you constantly nourishing that necromantic spirit with the Tyrant? Even knowing that the necromantic spirit will eventually cause the collapse of the soul space, you still haven't stopped. Could that necromantic spirit be related to your escape plan?"
Todd stared into Sutherland's eyes: "One last question: why did you trap me here?"
Sutherland smiled and shook his head, his body slowly fading until he finally disappeared completely from the soul space.
Todd threw a punch into the air, yelling hoarsely, "Tell me the truth! You damn bastard!"
