Chapter 682 Return Alive

These lights and shadows intertwine and crisscross, some like slender silver snakes winding and swimming, some like irregular puzzle pieces randomly pieced together. They are sometimes bright and sometimes dark, sometimes clear and sometimes blurred, making the already bumpy road even more difficult to identify.

Xiao Yi stared wide-eyed, trying to discern the true outline of the road from the light and shadow. But the flickering light constantly interfered with his vision, causing him to have illusions. Sometimes, he would mistake the bright light for a flat road, but it turned out to be a deep pothole; sometimes, the seemingly dark shadow might hide a protruding rock, which would cause the armored vehicle to shake violently if he was not careful.

The leaves in the moonlight swayed in the wind, and the light and shadows also swayed and jumped, as if deliberately teasing Xiao Yi. His eyes quickly swept through these ever-changing light and shadows, sweat beads on his forehead, and his mood became more and more anxious.

The interweaving of those mottled lights and shadows resembled an abstract painting, leaving one bewildered. Xiao Yi could only rely on years of driving experience and intuition to navigate this maze of light and shadow, praying in his heart that he would not fall into a desperate situation due to a misjudgment. Like a weary traveler, the armored vehicle trudged forward on this rugged road winding through the woods.

The wheels rose and fell on the uneven ground, sometimes sinking into deep ruts, sometimes hitting protruding rocks. The body of the car shook violently with the ups and downs of the road, as if it would fall apart at any moment.

Every bump was like a heavy hammer, hitting Xiao Yi's heart hard. He gripped the steering wheel tightly, trying to steady his body, but the strong vibration still made his bones tremble.

When the front wheel of the armored vehicle suddenly fell into a big pit, Xiao Yi's body instantly flew into the air, and then fell heavily back into the seat. His internal organs seemed to be reversed. His heart tightened, his brows knitted, and he couldn't help but let out a muffled groan.

Another violent jolt caused the chassis of the armored vehicle to rub against the ground with a sharp sound, and sparks flew everywhere. Xiao Yi's heart also rose to his throat, fearing that the vehicle would be completely damaged.

Whenever the armored vehicle encountered a raised earth slope, it would rush up suddenly and then fall rapidly. The feeling of weightlessness made Xiao Yi feel dizzy. Every time such a bump made him worry more about whether he could pass this section of road safely.

Xiao Yi gritted his teeth and persevered through the bumps and jolts, silently praying in his heart that the armored vehicle could withstand this cruel test and take him out of this dangerous forest.

Xiao Yi's hands seemed to be glued to the steering wheel with super glue, and his fingers were white from excessive force. His palms were full of sweat, but he still didn't dare to relax.

His eyes were wide open, bloodshot, searching hard in the darkness. His eyelids felt heavy as if they were hung with lead, but he forced himself not to blink, fearing that he would miss any clues that might be hiding.

The darkness was like thick ink, almost completely swallowing up his sight. Xiao Yi squinted his eyes, trying to distinguish the outline of the surrounding environment from the faint moonlight and mottled shadows of the trees.

His eyes quickly scanned the trees and rocks, not missing any possible corners. Every time he saw a slightly hidden place, his eyes would light up for a moment, and then quickly dim, because those places were either too small or too easy to be discovered.

Xiao Yi's breathing was rapid and heavy, and white mist kept coming out of his mouth. His eyes began to ache and hurt from the long and intense search, but he didn't dare to stop. There was only one strong thought in his mind: he must find a safe hiding place.

His head kept turning and his eyes kept scanning, and his whole body was in extreme tension and concentration, as if his life depended on these eyes searching hard in the darkness.

Finally, in Xiao Yi's almost desperate search, his eyes caught a relatively hidden corner half-hidden by lush vegetation.

It was at the foot of a steep mountain, surrounded by tall, sturdy trees whose branches intertwined to form a natural barrier. The ground was covered with thick fallen leaves, like a soft carpet.

Xiao Yi's eyes lit up instantly, his tense nerves relaxed a little, and he hurriedly drove the scarred armored vehicle towards the corner.

The armored vehicle moved forward with difficulty on the rugged road, and the wheels rolled over branches and stones, making a creaking sound. Xiao Yi was concentrating on controlling the vehicle, fearing that he would accidentally miss this rare hiding place.

When the armored vehicle finally arrived at the corner, Xiao Yi slowly stopped the car. He sat in the driver's seat, breathing heavily, sweat streaming down his cheeks.

He carefully observed the surrounding environment and confirmed that there was no danger before carefully opening the car door and getting out.

Xiao Yi once again examined this corner, feeling a sense of relief. Not only could this place hide the armored vehicles well, but the terrain was also higher, making it easier to observe the surrounding situation.

He closed the car door gently, as if afraid that making any noise would cause unnecessary trouble. At this moment, this hidden corner became his temporary refuge in this dangerous world.

The surroundings seemed to be shrouded in a veil of silence, a deathly stillness spreading. Not a breath of wind, even the leaves seemed frozen in place, motionless.

In this heart-pounding silence, only the occasional cries of night owls could be heard, abrupt and shrill. The sound cut through the night sky, as if coming from the depths of the distant darkness, carrying with it a chilling chill.

Every cry was like the whisper and cry of a ghost in the night. The sound echoed in the air, sometimes far away, sometimes near, erratic, making it impossible to grasp its source.
