The moonlight was fragmented by the dense foliage, the few glimmers barely illuminating the chaotic road ahead. The armored vehicle's engine emitted an intermittent, muffled rumble, like the labored breathing of a seriously ill old man.
As soon as he entered the woods, the dense branches and leaves eagerly rushed towards the armored vehicle. The sharp branches scraped mercilessly against the vehicle's body, making a harsh sound. "Crunch-crunch--" as if it was the forest's angry warning to this uninvited guest.
Long branches lashed against the car, leaving deep scratches on it, as if it had been clawed by a demon. Some fragile branches and leaves broke instantly, making a crisp "crackling" sound, and then fell helplessly.
And those hard tree trunks, like majestic guards, blocked the armored vehicle's advance. The car body collided with the tree trunks, making a dull "bang" sound, and every collision made Xiao Yi's body in the car shake violently.
Not to be outdone, the leaves swarmed across the car window, making a rustling sound, as if countless tiny insects were gnawing at the metal. This noisy and sharp sound intertwined together to form a creepy melody.
Xiao Yi's expression became more solemn at the strange sound, but his eyes remained firm. He continued to drive the armored vehicle without flinching, moving forward with difficulty in this hostile forest.
Xiao Yi sat in the dark driving seat, his hands tightly gripping the steering wheel, his eyes determined but full of vigilance. He knew that turning on the lights was like lighting a torch in the darkness, which would completely expose his position.
His heart was beating violently in his chest, and every beat was accompanied by the fear of unknown danger. But he didn't dare to turn on the light, even though the darkness before him made it almost impossible for him to see the road ahead.
He imagined that once the lights came on, the light that penetrated the woods would be like a sharp sword, instantly slicing through the quiet darkness. And the zombies hiding in the dark corners would rush towards the light like sharks smelling blood.
Perhaps they would stumble out from the shadows on all sides, claws and fangs bared, and pounce on the armored vehicles. The images of those distorted faces and bloodshot eyes kept appearing in his mind, giving him a chill.
Xiao Yi bit his lip, trying hard to suppress the urge to turn on the light. He could only rely on the faint moonlight and his intuition to grope forward in this dangerous forest.
Every sound of wheels rolling over branches and every rustle of leaves in the wind made his nerves tense to the extreme. He dared not relax even a little, because he knew that if he made a mistake, the consequences would be disastrous.
The cold moonlight struggled to penetrate the layers of leaves, sprinkling down like fine silver flakes, forming patches of mottled and blurry light and shadows on the ground.
