Xiao Yi looked at Dr. Lin warily, the energy gun in his hand still pointed at her. "Help me?" He sneered, "I remember you spitting at me on the city wall just now."

A trace of guilt flashed across Dr. Lin's face. "I know I was wrong. But Xiao Yi, now is not the time to worry about this. If the Bloody Cross's plan succeeds, the entire apocalypse will fall into a greater disaster."

"Oh?" Xiao Yi raised his eyebrows, "Then tell me, what are they planning?"

Doctor Lin took a deep breath. "They're researching a new virus that can transform ordinary people into super soldiers. However, this virus is extremely unstable, and all previous test subjects have turned into monsters. Zhang Ming and his team have been searching for a special physique that can withstand the virus..."

Xiao Yi's pupils suddenly contracted, "So that's why they did this to me?"

Doctor Lin nodded. "Your lightning-related abilities are unique, making you an ideal test subject. However, they didn't expect you to reach level 8, rendering all the experimental data invalid."

Xiao Yi sneered, "What now? What are they going to do?"

"They..." Dr. Lin suddenly lowered his voice, "They are preparing to launch Plan B. There is a secret warehouse under the laboratory, which stores a large amount of virus liquid. They plan to spread this virus to other survivor bases..."

A cold light flashed in Xiao Yi's eyes, "So, you are here to stop them?"

"Yes." Dr. Lin nodded firmly. "I know all the secret passages and security systems of the laboratory. I can take you directly into the core area."

Xiao Yi was silent for a moment. Although he did not completely trust Dr. Lin, he really needed her help now.

"Lead the way," he said finally, "but remember, if you try any tricks..."

"I understand." Dr. Lin smiled bitterly. "I have no choice but to help you now."

The two walked in the dim passage one after the other. Xiao Yi could feel that the air around him was becoming more and more oppressive, as if something terrible was watching him in secret.

"The core area of the laboratory is just ahead." Doctor Lin suddenly stopped. "But..."

"But what?"

"There's a special defense system there." Dr. Lin's voice trembled. "It requires two different passwords to be disabled. I know one of them, but the other..."

Xiao Yi frowned, "Who knows the other one?"

"Zhang Ming." Doctor Lin smiled bitterly, "But now he has..."

Xiao Yi was silent for a moment, then suddenly thought of something. He quickly returned to the passage and searched Zhang Ming's body. Soon, he found a special ID card.

"Hope this helps," he muttered.

Returning to Dr. Lin, Xiao Yi handed her the ID card. Dr. Lin's eyes lit up, "Great! This is Zhang Ming's highest-authority card. It should be able to replace the second password."

The two continued forward and soon arrived in front of a heavy metal door. The door was covered with complex electronic locks and two password input panels.

Dr. Lin quickly entered a password and inserted his ID card into one of the panels. With a click, the metal door slowly opened.

However, the scene behind the door made both of them gasp.

The entire laboratory had been transformed into a massive incubator, with countless transparent containers filled with various deformed creatures. Some had multiple heads, some were covered in tentacles, and some no longer resembled a human at all.

"Oh my god..." Dr. Lin covered his mouth, "They have conducted so many experiments..."

A trace of anger flashed in Xiao Yi's eyes, "These beasts..."

At this moment, a strange laugh suddenly came from deep in the laboratory.

"Welcome to my kingdom, Mr. Xiao."

An old man in a white research suit walked out of the shadows, his eyes glowing abnormally red, and he held a strange controller in his hand.

"Let me introduce myself," the old man said with a smile. "I'm the chief scientist of the Scarlet Cross and the person in charge of this project. You can call me... Doctor."

Xiao Yi stared at the doctor vigilantly, and the lightning energy in his body began to slowly condense. He could feel that this seemingly frail old man exuded a dangerous aura.

"Doctor?" Xiao Yi sneered, "It seems that you are the mastermind behind all this."

The doctor smiled nonchalantly. "The mastermind? No, no, no. Mr. Xiao, you think too highly of me. I'm just a scientist pursuing the truth."

"Truth?" Xiao Yi's eyes swept over the deformed experimental subjects around him, "Is this what you call truth? Turning people into monsters?"

"Monsters?" the doctor suddenly became excited. "You're too narrow-minded! These are miracles of evolution! They're proof that humanity has broken through its own limitations!"

Doctor Lin couldn't help but speak, "But they have all lost their minds and turned into monsters who only know how to kill!"

"That's because they're not perfect!" The doctor's eyes flashed with madness. "But Mr. Xiao, you're different. You have a special physique, making you a perfect experimental subject. As long as you are willing to cooperate, we can create a truly perfect super soldier!"

A cold light flashed in Xiao Yi's eyes, "Do you think I will agree?"

"Oh, you will." The doctor suddenly pressed the controller in his hand. "Because if you don't agree, I will trigger the self-destruct sequence. When that happens, the entire base, including the innocent survivors outside, will be reduced to ash."
