Data Heartbeat: Out-of-Control Code of the Cold-Blooded Heir

In "Skyreach City", a futuristic metropolis ruled by four major financial magnates, Lu Chenshen, a cold-blooded heir to one of the magnates, is implanted with the "Scarlet Code" by ...

Chapter 38 Wen Shifei's Counterattack

Her skin was the cold white of years of sunlight, her features delicate as if meticulously crafted by God, radiating a cold androgynous beauty. Most striking were her eyes—a lazy, cat-like shape, with slightly upturned corners, and pupils a rare, deep blue, like tempered blue steel. At that moment, these blue-steel cat-like eyes peered through the transparent bulkhead, fixed precisely on me. Beneath the languid exterior lay an undisguised, scalpel-like scrutiny. Her lips, naturally slightly upturned, now curved into a sharp, almost half-smile.

"It's me." Wen Shifei's voice was still lazy, but like an ice cone wrapped in velvet. "How does it feel? What does it feel like to be used as a human-shaped hard drive by a 'high-dimensional logical entity' from the end of the universe?"

Her bluntness and sarcasm were like ice water poured over my head. I opened my mouth, but no sound came out. I could only stare at her.

"Don't be nervous," Wen Shifei seemed pleased with my reaction. Her gaze returned to the frantic torrent of data flowing before her, her fingertips dancing without a pause. "It won't die for now. The 'high-dimensional tenant' inside you has locked itself up tightly, fearing contamination from the noise of the 'low-dimensional stew' outside. What I'm doing now," she paused, her fingertips swishing across a virtual model composed of countless rotating golden polyhedrons! The model was instantly disassembled into billions of golden threads, which she forcibly woven into an even more complex, icy blue logical framework, "is just helping it... temporarily turn off those infuriating 'alarms' and, by the way, reinforce the locks on this fragile 'prison cell'. After all, if it wakes up or escapes, there will probably be nothing left of us on this ship."

She said it lightly, but I could sense the terrifying technical difficulty and risk behind this matter from the speed of her fingertips, the torrent of data calculated frantically on the screen, and the absolute focus that flashed in the depths of her blue steel pupils!

"Lin Xi!" A low, hoarse, anxious voice suddenly came from the side and back of the control room.

I rolled my eyes with difficulty.

Jiang Li sat slumped against a metal bench, his face pale, his forehead bandaged in a blood-soaked bandage, one arm secured in a makeshift splint. Clearly seriously injured, his bloodshot eyes fixed on me in the medical bay, a mixture of relief at having survived, a deep sense of worry, and a lingering sense of dread—the fear of the golden lines on the back of my neck. He struggled to stand, but a nearby female team member (codenamed "Ice Claw"), wearing the same dark gray uniform and a stern, short-haired look, pinned him down by the shoulder.

"She's stable for now, Captain Jiang." Ice Claw's voice was as cold and hard as her body. "Engineer Wen is handling it."

Jiang Li's gaze was fixed on the slightly undulating golden lines on the back of my neck. His Adam's apple rolled, but he didn't try to stand up. However, the knuckles of his clenched fists turned white from the force.

"Carrier...external interference...logic containment layer...suffering from...low-dimensional logic...infiltration...risk factor...increasing..." The cold voice in the skull, like a poisonous snake disturbed from its sleep, squirmed extremely weakly, carrying a cold warning.

Infiltration? Wen Shifei is trying to crack the logic of "entropy"?!

I suddenly looked at Wen Shifei, my eyes filled with fear and silent questioning.

Wen Shifei seemed to sense my gaze, her cat-like eyes flickering slightly, the sharp curve at the corner of her lips deepening. "Infiltration? Ha, you really think highly of my 'low-dimensional' methods. I simply added a few... 'firewalls' and 'buffer zones' outside its logical containment layer. After all," her gaze swept across the corner of the home screen, where a shrinking countdown bar was flashing, "we don't have much time left. We have to find it... a safer, quieter 'new home' before it's awakened by a louder 'noise' or this little wreck is crushed into a discus."

More noise? A new home?

Just when I was confused by the huge amount of information contained in her words——

Woo-woo-woo-woo

A low, oppressive alarm, like the wail of a deep-sea monster, rang out without warning throughout the control center! Red warning lights instantly replaced the cold blue light, spinning and flashing wildly, illuminating everyone's face with a blood-red glow!

"Warning! The sonar array has detected a high-density moving target! Azimuth: 30 degrees from the bow of the boat, Depth: Synchronous dive! Distance: 800 meters... 700 meters... Approaching rapidly!" The cold synthetic alarm sounded rapidly, with an unprecedented sense of urgency!

On the main screen, the green dot representing the submarine was instantly surrounded by a dense swarm of crimson dots, like a swarm of bloodthirsty locusts! These dots moved in strange, extremely fast movements, closing in on the submarine from all directions!

"It's the 'Siren'! The unruly mechanical water ghost!" At the control console, a young technician in charge of sonar monitoring (codenamed "Fisheye") screamed in fear, his voice trembling with fear. "There are more than fifty! Model identification... 'Abyss Stalker-III'! Equipped with high-energy cutting arms and suction-type electromagnetic bombs!"

"Abyssal Stalker-III"... the ace of the underwater forces! Like ghost killers in the deep sea! They are coming!

The atmosphere in the control room instantly plummeted to freezing point! The few remaining team members (including Ice Claw) instantly entered combat mode, rushing towards their respective weapon consoles, their movements swift yet filled with suppressed tension. Jiang Li also abruptly stood up, ignoring his injuries, and drew the battered high-energy pulse pistol from his waist. A dark blue light converged dangerously at the muzzle, and his eyes, sharp as a knife, stared intently at the rapidly approaching group of crimson dots on the main screen!
