Chapter 188 Popular Frog

The praise made Duoxi forget that she had just been scared and cried. She proudly puffed out her little chest and said in a childish voice, "I'm the best."

Duo Shou also craned his neck and said, "I'm going to find even more frogs later."

Duolu, unconvinced, stepped forward and glared at the croaking field frogs: "I'm sure I can catch the most frogs."

Gao Guojing leaned over and said, "This field frog must weigh over a pound, enough to make a stir-fry."

Duofu: "Uncle Guojing, we caught seven field frogs this big the day before yesterday and ate them all in one meal."

Gao Guojing was surprised: "Wow, you guys can eat so much?" Sure enough, his father was right to ask him to bring money. They eat ten pounds of meat in one meal. How many families can afford to feed them?

They used the large bowl that Huang Xiaohua brought for dinner tonight, and didn't add rice as frequently as usual. Gao Guojing didn't immediately notice that his nephew had become a big eater.

Duolu, unaware of Gao Guojing's thoughts, assumed he was praising them and proudly puffed out his chest, saying, "I eat more than Duoshou. Before long, I'll be eating as much as my older brother."

Yu Rujia patted the little guy's head and said, "We should go catch some frogs, or they'll run away."

The tangent topic finally came back to life: everyone joined the frog-catching frog-catching frog team, and for a while, the fields were filled with people scrambling around. Fortunately, the rice here had already been harvested, so there was no need to worry about damaging the crops.

"Duolu, this one doesn't seem right." It was Duofu's voice.

"They look the same, they're frogs."

Yu Rujia, who was standing guard by the bag, looked over and saw Duolu putting a frog into the bag.

Yu Rujia: "Duolu, you're just a frog, you can't eat it."

Duofu then pulled a field frog out of the bag and compared it with the one Duolu had caught: "Look, this field frog has a smooth back, while yours has a rough back. They're different."

Yu Rujia: "Duolu, your older brother is right. The ones with smooth backs are field frogs, and the ones with thick backs are croakers. Croakers can't be eaten because they don't have meat."

Duo Shou and Gao Guojing came over with a fat field frog. When they saw the frog in Duo Lu's hand, Duo Shou said with disdain, "Duo Lu, you should catch a big one. Big ones have meat. Look at the one we caught. We don't want this one. It has no meat and won't taste good."

The frog was too small, while the field frog in Gao Guojing's hand was too fat; the two looked several times different in size.

Duolu was a little unhappy that Duofu said he had caught the wrong one, but when he saw Duoshou's big field frog, he immediately released the frog in his hand with disgust.

Duolu pouted and declared confidently, "I want to catch an even bigger one."

Yu Rujia reminded the little guy who had already run off, "Duolu, don't run too far."

Duofu chased after her: "Auntie, I will watch over Duolu."

"Don't run, don't run!" came the voice from the other side. It was Duoxi, who was chasing after a living creature that was croaking.

The little guy can't walk steadily yet, but that doesn't dampen his enthusiasm for chasing the field frogs at all.

Seeing that he was about to fall into the ditch, Gao Shujing, who was next to Xiao Baozi, picked him up and put him away from the ditch: "Duoxi, wait here, Uncle will go catch it."

The little one kicked its short legs, struggling to chase after it: "I want to catch it."

Hearing the sound, Gao Guojing ran over and pounced on the frog that was about to disappear, then lifted it up: "Hahaha, it's mine now."

Duoxi's eyes reddened with anxiety, and she said in a childish voice, "I saw it."

Gao Guojing childishly started teasing Duoxi: "I caught it."

After playing around for over an hour, the group finally caught several dozen field frogs.

Seeing the frogs tied up all over the yard, Duolu couldn't help but drool. He snuggled up to Yu Rujia, his big eyes pleading cutely, and softly begged, "Auntie, shall we cook some frogs to eat?"

Duoxi, imitating her, sidled up and stretched out her chubby arms to hug her thigh: "Auntie, eat frog."

Duofu and Duoshou looked at Yu Rujia expectantly, but the latter cruelly refused the little creatures' request: "It's late today, you should go to sleep. We'll eat frogs tomorrow."

Thinking back to the fact that the family of six had eaten seven field frogs in one meal the day before yesterday, and considering that Gao Guojing and Gao Shujing would be joining them today, Gao Shujing specially killed a few more, so they prepared ten field frogs this morning.

He underestimated the deliciousness of field frogs. It was the first time Gao Guojing had tasted field frogs in several different flavors, and he didn't want to eat any other dishes. He just wanted to devour the field frogs.

The little ones already loved eating field frogs, and seeing Gao Guojing eating so voraciously, they fought even harder for them.

Gao Guojing opened his mouth wide and ate a piece of frog meat, spitting out the bones, and then picked up another piece of frog in his hand.

Gao Guojing: "When it comes to food, I only admire Sister Rujia. This frog meat is really amazing. It's so fresh and tender. It's even better with chili. Let's stir-fry more tonight."

Sure enough, there was a lot of good food when we arrived at Shangfen Brigade. At home, we had to count the meat we ate, and it didn't taste as good as it did here. We could eat to our heart's content like we did at Shangfen Brigade.

Gao Shujing: "Guojing, kill all those field frogs this afternoon, and we'll continue tonight."

Duofu paused, his hand holding the chopsticks still pausing. "Uncle, there are still more than thirty field frogs there. If we kill them all, will we be able to finish them all for dinner?"

With his mouth full of grease, Duolu still managed to grab more frogs: "I can eat them all, I can eat lots and lots of them."

Gao Guojing readily agreed, "No problem. We can go catch more after we eat tonight. There are plenty left in the field."

The younger ones didn't know where the field frogs went, but he did; he certainly wouldn't waste more than thirty field frogs.

That evening, Gao Shujing and Gao Guojing arrived at the cowshed carrying a full load of frog meat. Xia Jingxing rushed up to them as soon as he saw them: "Guojing, you're here! That's great! How about we go up the mountain for a stroll sometime?"

Han Meifeng glared at him and said, "What are you doing, turn around? You better behave yourself and come in and sit down."

Xia Jingxing immediately lowered his head and went into the house.

After the two baskets of meat were placed on the table, Xia Jingsheng, who was serving the dishes, asked, "This doesn't look like the meat we usually eat. What is it?"

Gao Guojing chuckled and said, "Big brother, you'll never guess."

Xia Jingfan, who was setting out the bowls and chopsticks, took a closer look at the pieces of meat. The texture on them was different from the meat they usually saw: "I really can't recognize it."

Only a minority of people would eat field frogs. Many people would immediately exclude them from the menu upon seeing their appearance. For example, people in Shangfen Brigade don't eat them. Otherwise, they wouldn't let field frogs roam freely and grow to one or two pounds without anyone paying attention to them.

The Xia family used to live in the city and were very wealthy. They had no shortage of food and drink, and they had never even touched frog meat before.

Having tasted the deliciousness of field frogs, Gao Guojing proudly gave the answer: "You don't know, do you? Let me tell you, this is field frog meat."
