Chicken feet delivery, what's not to like?
The Monkey King was shocked and ran away. Although he had followed Master Hei into many ancient tombs, it was always Master Hei who dealt with any problems. He was just an assistant, a gofer, and hadn't learned a single move from Master Hei.
With a 'thump,' the Monkey King tripped over a stone, but ignoring the pain, he got up and continued running. Suddenly, he heard the sound of iron chains clanging ahead. The Monkey King stopped and looked over, shining his flashlight on the ground. He discovered that less than twenty meters ahead, a wooden plank bridge connected by iron chains was hanging on the cliff, making a 'creaking' sound.
The iron chain bridge has been there for who knows how many years. It is covered in rust, and the wooden planks in the middle have been eroded by time, becoming rotten and falling off in some places.
I shone my flashlight down the cliff, but all I could see was darkness; the light couldn't reach the bottom at all.
Just then, a very faint sound of footsteps came from behind, as if someone had secretly followed them. The Monkey King swallowed hard, cold sweat pouring down his face. He mustered his courage and turned around abruptly, shining his flashlight in the direction of the sound, only to find that there was no one there at all.
"Could it be that ghost has followed us? No, this place is too eerie, I have to leave immediately," the Monkey King thought to himself, looking ahead and then behind.
"What should I do? Can I cross that iron chain bridge? If I fall, I'm doomed. But things aren't much better behind it. I wonder how those people are doing," the Monkey King pondered. Suddenly, he noticed a light shining on the other side of the iron chain bridge, with flickering flames.
"That's the Soul-Suppressing Lamp, could it be the Black Lord?" The Great Sage Equaling Heaven was overjoyed and made up his mind to risk crossing the iron chain bridge.
As he approached the iron chain bridge, the Monkey King trembled. He could clearly feel the chilling aura blowing up from below the cliff. It seemed to be a place of utter darkness, a place said to be formed from mass graves. So, what lay below...?
The Monkey King tried his best to remain calm, holding onto the iron chain with one hand and shining a flashlight in the other, as he cautiously walked forward step by step.
It took a while to reach the middle of the suspension bridge. He could vaguely see the ground on the other side. Then, a creaking sound rang out again. The Monkey King didn't dare to breathe, thinking that he had stepped too hard and the planks were cracking.
He stopped in his tracks, almost running away. The creaking sound was clearly coming from behind him, meaning someone was following him across the suspension bridge. The key question was, who else was there besides him?
Cold sweat had soaked his clothes. The Monkey King reminded himself to stay calm, because losing his composure in such a place would be tantamount to courting death.
The creaking sound grew closer. The Monkey King gritted his teeth, took another step, and continued walking. All around was deathly silent. Looking up, he found that the lamp that had appeared earlier had disappeared.
A vague sense of unease crept into my heart. Was I possessed by a ghost, and was everything I was seeing not real?
There are two types of ghosts: one is a wandering spirit, which can only frighten and bewitch people, bringing disaster; the other is a vengeful ghost, also known as an evil ghost. This kind of ghost is filled with resentment and can take human form, directly taking a person's life. There is a folk saying: "When an evil ghost afflicts you, nine out of ten will die and go mad." This means that if you are afflicted by an evil ghost, you will either die or lose your mind.
Now, even the Monkey King can't worry about everything else; he can only take it one step at a time.
As the flashlight swept across the iron chain bridge ahead, the Monkey King inadvertently noticed, by the light of the flashlight, a row of black coffins placed on the cliff face to his right.
"It's a hanging coffin," the Great Sage Equal to Heaven exclaimed in disbelief. How could there be a hanging coffin here? Hanging coffins are only found in western Sichuan, and this is southern Sichuan. But the facts were right in front of him, making it impossible not to believe that a hanging coffin could appear here. This made the tomb even more complicated. He had heard from Blackie that several ancient tribes existed in the Bashu region before the Qin Dynasty, creating mysterious cultures, but they all mysteriously disappeared from history, and there were no records of them in history.
The Monkey King's flashlight shone on a rotten coffin, and he was immediately startled, almost screaming. Inside the broken coffin lay an intact corpse, dressed in strange clothing, somewhat resembling the attire of ethnic minorities. Strangely, the corpse wore a mask on its face.
What frightened the Monkey King the most was that the corpse had long, black fingernails on one hand, sharp and pointed.
He quickly put the flashlight away and quickened his pace towards the other side. He had followed Master Hei for so many years and had entered hundreds of ancient tombs of all sizes. Although he had never seen a real corpse transformation, he had heard Master Hei talk about it a lot. According to Master Hei, the thing he feared most in this line of work was encountering corpse spirits, especially evil corpses.
If you encounter a ghost, you can still find a way to deal with it, since ghosts can only harm you. But a corpse spirit will truly kill you, just like the zombies in TV shows. It will suck people's blood, while a real evil corpse will be like a ferocious beast, not only sucking people's blood but also eating their bodies.
Finally, the iron chain bridge was crossed. The Monkey King dared not relax his body, and the creaking sound behind him stopped. He swept his flashlight around and was pleasantly surprised to find a small knife pattern carved on the stone wall in front of him.
"Blackie really did come here. It seems he discovered something and deliberately left a knife pattern so that I could find it." The Great Sage Equal to Heaven felt a little calmer. At least now he could confirm that Blackie was safe and sound. As long as he found Blackie, everything would be much easier.
