Chapter 28 Two Unfamiliar Individuals

There aren't many people at the school gate right now.

Wen Mo squatted down at the doorway beforehand, peeking back at the students coming out from inside every now and then.

Most of the freshmen were still getting to know each other in the classroom and wouldn't come out so soon. On the main road, a small, solitary figure stood out.

"You came pretty quickly." Wen Mo stood up, smiled, and waved to her.

Xia Lian seemed to notice him at the door, her eyes lit up, and she ran over like a little deer, finally stopping abruptly in front of Wen Mo, panting slightly.

"Are you alright? Why did you run so fast?" Wen Mo gently patted her back.

After Xia Lian recovered, she raised her head and "scanned" him from top to bottom. More than ten seconds passed, but her gaze still did not leave him.

Feeling a little uneasy under their gaze, Wen Mo put his hands in front of him and carefully checked his clothes, afraid that there might be something wrong with them.

Could it be that your zipper is undone?

Looking down, I saw that my zipper was intact and everything else was normal.

"Um, is there something strange on me?" He scratched his head sheepishly, feeling awkward being stared at by her.

Xia Lian didn't react much; instead, she looked at him even more intently, her eyes seeming to reveal some unfathomable thoughts.

A few seconds later, she leaned against Wen Mo and, as usual, clutched the hem of his clothes.

"I kind of... miss Wenmo."

"ah?"

Wen Mo froze on the spot, looking at Xia Lian who was standing next to him in surprise, his mind racing.

Missing me? But only an hour has passed.

The atmosphere between the two became quieter. Wen Mo couldn't figure it out either, so he could only pretend that he hadn't heard what she said clearly.

"Oh, I see. Let's go home then."

As he said this, he took a step forward to leave.

Unexpectedly, Xia Lian remained standing in the same spot, her expressionless face revealing no emotion, only staring intently at him.

Wen Mo sensed that Xia Lian was more clingy than before, simply because the two had only been apart for an hour.

"What's wrong today?" He smiled as he returned to Xia Lian's side and asked with concern.

The girl seemed a little shy, looking down at her small feet. After a few seconds, she slowly raised her head, her clear face full of innocence, and then opened her arms.

"Can I hug you?"

"What?"

Before she could even react, a warm body was pressed tightly against her. Looking down, she could only see a cute head stuck to her chest.

She hugged him tightly, her arms wrapped around his back, as if trying to pass on all her warmth to Wenmo, making her feel a little itchy inside.

Wenmo's hands froze in mid-air, unsure of what to do.

"Why did you suddenly hug me?"

The girl pressed herself against his chest and gently raised her head; from this angle, only his chin was visible.

"No, can I hug you?"

After she finished speaking, her expression showed some disappointment, and she loosened her arms slightly.

Wen Mo's mouth was slightly open as he looked at her with a hint of helplessness.

They've already embraced her, why would they need to ask for her opinion?

Although I don't know why she wanted a hug, if it would make her feel more at ease, it's not a bad thing.

Thinking of this, he sighed slowly, his right hand climbing up Xia Lian's head, while his left hand wrapped around her back. "This is the last time."

At the wrong time, in the wrong place, and under the wrong circumstances, the two embraced tightly.

"Um……"

She murmured softly, then obediently buried her head in Wen Mo's arms, feeling all the tenderness in his embrace.

Wen Mo was a little nervous. He had never hugged another girl before, and the girl in his arms was unexpectedly soft. Holding her felt like holding a delicate flower, making him reluctant to use force, for fear of hurting her.

"Wenmo".

"Um?"

"I've made a friend," she said quietly, like a child seeking praise, her tone carrying a hint of pride.

Upon hearing this, Wen Mo gently stroked her head, a hint of joy appearing in his eyes.

"Great job! Our little Lian is amazing."

Having friends would make him feel more at ease about his life at school.

only……

"Xiao Lian."

"Um……?"

Are your friends male or female?

He was a little worried that Xia Lian might make bad friends, after all, this girl was so naive, she would probably believe whatever others said.

Because she always kept her head down, and because she didn't talk much, even with her pretty face, it was hard for others to notice her.

It's rare to make a friend like this, so I have to observe them carefully.

Xia Lian felt the gentle stroking on her head and comfortably squinted her eyes.

"Boys and girls, both."

"You have them all? How are things getting along with them?"

This is one of the issues he cares about most.

“They are all good people.” Xia Lian lowered her head and pondered for a moment. “When I left, I hugged that girl.”

"What?"

Wen Mo's eyes widened. He hadn't expected that such an introverted girl would take the initiative to hug someone, especially someone she had just met.

"But after the hug, she looked at me a little strangely," Xia Lian said, tilting her head in confusion.

“Of course.” Wen Mo was a little speechless. “Because very few people hug and kiss on the first meeting, even if they are friends of the same sex.”
